Mission: Episode 104 - A Glimmer of Hope...
Location: Various Ships
Timeline: MD1 - 1605hrs

ON:

The trip to the rendezvous point was a rather short one for the ships from Starbase 400. Once they met up with the Combined Seventh Fleet, the ships changed course, crossed into Romulan territory, and proceeded toward the target.

Along the way, they picked up a lone Romulan Battlecruiser on patrol, were able to jam its communications, and destroy the ship before it could get a warning sent to the Romulan base.

The Intrepid class USS Essex proudly lead the fleet of nearly three hundred ships. Above and just behind the Essex was the Defiant class USS Yorktown.

Yorktown, Bridge

"Admiral, I have RDB8 on sensors. Our intel was right, about a third of their disruptor banks are offline. However..." Rann started to explain.

"However what?" K'Temoc asked.

Lexington

"I'm picking up three groups of ships near to the base." Lieutenant Roebuck reported from Tactical.

"Spit it out Lieutenant." Stark said.

"There's a formation of Romulan, Gorn, and Krazzle ships departing the base's vicinity on a course for DS6." Roebuck started.

"So heading right for us? Go on." Stark replied.

"Another smaller group of ships seems to be also departing on course toward the Klingon border. The third group is the smallest, mostly Romulan, looks like they are preparing to escort a convoy of empty cargo ships and transports back into the heart of the Star Empire." Roebuck explained.

Vanguard

Metsker looked over the sensors for another moment, "A couple of the cargo ships, transports, and two of their escorts show battle damage."

"Total count of warships?" MacLeod asked.

"They outnumber us by ten ships. That's not counting the base." Metsker replied.

"Then it's going to be one hell of a battle." Carter commented.

Yorktown

"Make sure the Essex is aware." K'Temoc said.

"Sir, we've reached the point of departure." The Lieutenant at the conn reported.

"Drop us out of warp with everyone else." K'Temoc ordered. "Ensign, signal the Kearsage, Saratoga, and Lexington and tell them to launch all fighters. Mister Rann, signal General Klag and tell him to have his reserves fall back. I don't want to have to commit those old Battlecruisers unless we have to."

Kearsarge

"Message from the Yorktown, time to launch the 181st." Lennox reported.

"Do it." Hurd replied.

Lennox tapped the comm button on his panel, "Bridge to Major McDaniel, launch your fighters."

McDaniel had been waiting for the word to launch and he immediately did so on that command.

" One eighty first move out. Formation plan,Delta." Chuck commanded as his waves launched. They would await for further orders and deploy as they were needed. Better to launch now than to be stuck inside during a fire fight.

"Majorr, fighterrss from otherr unitss in the Sseventh Fleet arre alsso launching." Taz reported from Tactical.

" Roger that."

Yorktown

"Lieutenant, move us into position on the right side of the formation. Tell the Vanguard, Exeter, Challenger, Verity, and Percival to move with us. Once we're in position, signal the Essex." K'Temoc ordered.

"Admiral, those enemy ships, the fleet heading to DS6 has dropped out of warp and is signalling the others to rush to their location to engage us." Harper reported.

"Sir, I decoded some chatter coming from the base and the convoy escorts. They're reporting the witnessed the Pegasus's destruction at the hands of the Tomal, the Tomal is a new Scimitar type warbird built just before the war started."

K'Temoc nodded. He couldn't believe it, but now wasn't the time to grieve. "So it begins." He took a breath, "Red alert, all hands to battle stations."

USS Essex

Reports were coming from several ships. One report from the Yorktown had an impact on her. The news of Admiral Bremer was upsetting. His death was one thing that she refused to believe. She shrugged it off. There were more important things to deal with, an imminent battle.

"Damn. Lt. Henshaw, it looks like they know we are here and they are heading straight for us." T'Lar immediately issued a red alert as everyone prepared for the battle.

Operations immediately reinforced power to hull and shields from non essential sources and sure enough power was there for weapons. Lt Commander Croesus loved the feeling of battle, being half Klingon he had to. But facing the future without his leader Admiral Bremer was not a feeling he enjoyed having.

USS Saratoga

Kaden watched as the fleet engaged the enemy on the view screen gripping his arm rests this was it he just hoped he come back alive to Freya and his friends. The thought alone of never seeing her or them and even worse their child growing up not having his or her father in their life bothered him deep down. But this was war and he had a job to do cause right now if he didn’t help end this conflict Kaden wasn’t sure what world his child would live in if he failed.

“Colonel, picking up several Breen vessels breaking formation it appears they are attempting to flank our forces from the right.” Said the officer at Tactical.

“Confirmed, the USS Boston and USS Newark from the seventh fleet is breaking off to engage.”

Kaden leaned forward in his chair. “Helm, break off formation and bring us up behind them to provide cover from the rear.” He turned to the conn officer. “Alert the rest of our forces to watch the right flank we will try to take out as many as we can.”

“Approaching weapons range, Colonel.”

Kaden’s brow creased he balled his left hand into a fist. “Lock on to the nearest Breen vessel and fire.” He replied.

Phasers lashed out from the Saratoga striking the lead Breen ship destroying it while the both the Newark and Boston destroyed another Breen ship each. Kaden couldn’t help but pump his fist in the air at the sight but felt the ship rock from returning fire by the remaining Breen ships. “Helm, evasive pattern delta three!” He ordered.

“Tactical, return fire!” Kaden added.

The Saratoga was rocked again from incoming enemy fire this time much harder than usual. A console nobody was at exploded behind Kaden as well did two wall panels off to his left.

=/\= “Engineering to Bridge, that last shot has loosened the focusing manifold on the shield generator I am having a team sent down there to fix it.” =/\=

“Acknowledged, Helm, break off our attack and fall back to the rear of the fleet till we can get the repairs complete.” Kaden said as the ship was rocked again by enemy fire this time causing beams falling and fires breaking out. Prompting some of the bridge crew to get fire extinguishers and try to put them out.

“Colonel, shields have failed and we have hull breaches on decks four, seven, and nine thru twelve!”

Kaden could feel things was certainly going bad real fast. “Signal, the flagship we need cover to fall back!” He ordered.

“SIR, LOOK!” Shouted one of the bridge officer pointing to the screen as a Breen ship was barreling down on them head on. The entire upper section was on fire after suffering heavy damage from the battle and the vessel was flying out of control.

“Evade, Evade, EVADE!” shouted Kaden but it was too late for the helm officer to do anything as the Breen ship and the Saratoga collided throwing everyone every where. While Kaden was flung thru the air into a bulkhead knocking him out cold.

USS Mercy

The Mercy was hanging back behind the fleet, she wasn't a fighting ship even though she was armed. She was here to take on the wounded not get involved with the fighting but, watching the Saratoga and Kaden take a pounding whilst trying to retreat had Ariana chomping at the bit to help.

"Status on the Saratoga?" Ariana turned to look at the young junior Lieutenant manning Ops.

"She's taken a pounding Lieutenant! Fire on several decks and she's spinning out of control. No sign of an evacuation yet but the shields are failing!"

Ariana bit her lip before taking a leap. "Helm get us over there! We should be able to tractor her and make her more stable, I want us close enough to extend shields! At least then we can help the crew." She tapped the comms. "Bridge to Sickbay, I want a team ready to go aboard the Saratoga and evacuate their wounded!"

“A team will be ready in transport room one in two minutes,” came the response.

"Commander Hades to the Bridge!"

Hades entered the bridge just as he was called

Ariana turned to look at Hades as he exited his ready room. "The Saratoga is out of control. I'm going to tractor her to stabilize and throw our shields around to bolster theirs. I've also got a medical team prepping to go for wounded." She looked at Hades hoping he wouldn't countermand her orders.

It seemed logical but he didn't like risking people if he didn't have to.

“Bridge, medical team is standing by for transport,” Doctor Corrigan’s familiar voice reported.

Ariana responded. "Thank you Doctor. We'll transport as soon as it's safe to do so."

He turned to Tactical. "How stable is she?"

"I wouldn't recommend a transport."

He sighed. He looked at Ariana, he would have done things differently but it was too late now. He gave a reluctant nod.

Ariana nodded back and offered a brief smile.

USS Endeavour

Commander Coleman had been working with Solomon on the Ark Royal to make sure his brother's communication virus was working as it had intended. With their first attack on the Romulan Warbird had worked, as they couldn't call for backup or help, it was good that his brother had thought about the virus all those years ago.

Coleman had Matthews watch the battle as they guarded the medical transports, such as the USS Mercy. Not only that, but he had Matthews continue to work on the communications of the Typhon Pact and their fleets.

Coleman was getting reports in from the fleet that there were approximately three or so fleets, all aimed for various points in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. He just watched from the background before walking over to Matthews and asking about the communication blackout virus.

"How's our little virus working on the fleet communication for the Typhon Pact?" Coleman asked Matthews, watching the fleet readouts and sitting next to Matthews to help him work on the virus mutations.

Davik ran his hands across the console in front of him as Coleman asked his question. Davik looked briefly at a readout to his right and said, "They appear to be having great difficulty adjusting to the virus' ability to adapt to their attempts at interference."

The console beeped several times and Davik shifted his focus to the cause, "It appears that many of the ships are switching to sub-light UHF for communications." Another beep, this one in response to entered commands. "The virus is adapting to the sub-light UHF shift, however, it is doing so slowly."

Davik looked at Coleman for the first time since his superior had seated himself, "I have added several lines of code to the base code of the virus." He pointed to a small section of the control panel, "The lines of code that I added were a quick termination sequence. When initiated, it will erase itself from the systems that it infects, leaving little proof it had been there, to begin with. Perhaps, we may use this tactic again; or, at least, until the Typhon Pact realizes what is happening."

“Do it and make it quick. If you have to, get with Commander Solomon on the Ark Royal to see what he can do to help,” Coleman said, as the ship was hit and the helmsmen went down. Coleman moved over and took the Conn as they were short on good pilots at the moment.

Coleman looked over at Matthews and said, “See if you get some of the 181’s to come and save our butts. They’ve finally started coming.”

Davik nodded, "The program's kill command is ready when you are, sir." He hit another command on the console, "Endeavour to 181st command." He waited just a second before continuing, "We are requesting immediate fighter support. Hostiles are incoming."

"Don't kill it yet. We need to make sure that sure that they can't call in any sort of reinforcements. If they do that, we're in for. Try remodulating it along the Theta Band frequences and see if that helps," Coleman said, entering some commands to try evade some Romulan escorts that were firing on the Endeavour.

The 181st immediately broke into four teams but McDaniel made sure he and six fighters responded to Endeavor.

" Heading your way with more to follow," Major McDaniel resplied.

USS Ark Royal

With work on the jamming tactics and the communication virus taking place en route, Jack was impressed with how the new crew aboard the Ark Royal had been working to make sure that the Ambassador Class starship was ready for combat, but also prepared to employ the defense tactics developed by Commander Coleman's brother.

Jack knew that when going up against an enemy like the Typhon Pact, with their various tactics and weapons that they could employ, you needed every advantage possible and especially during a time of war, every advantage you could get over your enemy was vital. As the Ark Royal held position with the Medical ships, providing cover, Jack watched on as the reports streamed in of the various issues the Typhon Pact vessels were encountering.

"Captain, we're receiving a priority one message from the Endeavour, it's a private message for you," reported Raven. Jack nodded. "Understood, re-route it to my Ready Room."

Making his from the Bridge to his Ready Room, Jack waited for the doors to close before he activated the terminal on his desk. He saw a message from Ltjg Matthews regarding seeing what assistance Jack and the Ark Royal could render. Jack started looking at the coding that was involved in the virus and started to work on ideas to slow down the Typhon Pacts attempts to stop or adapt to the virus.

USS Saratoga

Kaden awoke feeling a strong pain on the side of his head before running his fingers along the area seeing blood on them. “Report.” He said staggering to his feet.

A junior officer got over to the nearest console and pressed a few buttons. “All systems are down except life support systems are on auxiliary power.” The ship started to tilt to the left as if something heavy was pulling it that direction. “Colonel, a large chunk of the Breen vessel is embedded into the hull we lost emergency force fields and are losing atmosphere. I am also detecting plasma coolant venting from over sixteen separate EPS ruptures the air is becoming toxic!”

The Saratoga rocked again this time by enemy fire. =/\= “Engineering to Bridge, the Breen vessel colliding into us has ruptured the coolant systems to the warp core we can’t eject it. I estimate ten minutes to warp core breach!” =/\=

“Colonel, the USS Mercy is changing course to assist.”

Kaden could taste the air getting rather bad causing him cough. “Abandon ship, get everyone to the escape pods and any available small craft.” He said as the abandon ship klaxon sounded. Running over to a panel the large marine opened it coughing again in the process as he took a oxygen mask and put it on. He then started handing out others to the rest of the crew as they past by on the way to the turbolift. Once the bridge was cleared he took one last look wondering deep down if this was his last ship he was going to ever command after this. Biting his lower lip under his mask he entered the turbolift with the others before being taken to nearest deck with escape pods.

Once the turbolift came to a stop the doors opened to groups of ships crew heading for the escape pods Kaden had barely exited before the ship rocked again causing a beam to fall nearly hitting a crewman passing by him. Helping the man to his feet he handed the crewman to a couple of passing officers as they helped carry him to the escape pods.

Kaden stayed behind to make sure everyone had cleared the area and was about to leave when he heard a voice down the corridor. “Help, someone please!” Running around the bend he came upon a female officer her left foot pinned under some debris. She looked up glad to see her pleas was heard by someone. “Colonel, thank god, you heard me!”

Kneeling down Kaden looked her over. “You okay?” He asked.

Shaking her head she pointed to her foot. “I am stuck and I think my ankle is broken.” She replied. Patting her on the back hoping to keep the crewman calm as he moved over to the beam. “Okay, listen to me I am going to lift this up and I need you to pull yourself free.” He told her.

The crewman nodded as Kaden grabbed hold of the beam he gave her a nod to signal her as he lifted it up feeling somewhat glad his condition made him stronger than most Humans. The beam didn’t feel too heavy as he watched her pull her foot out from under it before letting go. The Saratoga rocked again this time causing a small explosion behind them indicating it was time to certainly go.

Grabbing the crewman Kaden lifted her in his arms as she wrapped her arms around his neck heading for the escape pods bobbing and weaving around fires and debris along the way. As he came around the corner he could see all the pods but one had launched and ran to it some of the crew inside was encouraging him to get in.

This was it Kaden was starting to feel relieved he was going to get out of this alive and see Freya again. She might be angry over the fact he almost died but he was certain she be more happy her man was home alive again. However that thought ended as Kaden could feel a rumble from behind just several feet from the escape pod.

The crewman was screaming in his arms turning his head he saw what she was screaming at a large fireball was coming right for them as if a dragon appeared from nowhere and breathed fire down upon them. Closing his eyes hunched down down thinking of Freya how much he was going to miss her as the fire consumed him.

Outside the last of the escape pods and small craft launched from the Saratoga catching the attention of two Breen ships as it seemed they was now intent of destroying them to make a statement. As the barreled near the Saratoga the Akira Class exploded the shock wave knocking both vessels off course.

As the enemy ships tried to recover neither of them had time to as the burning wreckage of the saucer section plowed into one and the remains of one of the nacelles and mission pod crashed into the other. As if the Saratoga was alive knowing they was coming for her crew thus sacrificing herself in one last gasp of glory to protect them. Thus destroying the enemy vessels as if the old girl was going to take them along with her into afterlife.

USS Mercy, prior to Saratoga warp core breech.

Just as the Mercy had been swinging in to help a yell had gone up from Ops that an emergency evacuation was finally underway. Both that and the fact that the ship was minutes away from a warp core breech. A quick change of orders later the Mercy was gathering up escape pods to get them as far away from the ship as possible.

"Away team abort the transport you're needed back in Sickbay!" Ariana looked at the officer at Ops. "Is everyone off the ship?"

"There are still life signs aboard Lieutenant!" Came the response.

"Beam them out!" Ariana looked at the view screen view of the dying ship.

Painful minutes later the Saratoga exploded taking with it the enemy ships that were bearing down on her.

"Was the transport successful?" She crossed her fingers hoping it was.

"Yes ma'am but only just!" She breathed a sigh of relief. "Get us back behind our escorts, I'll be in Sickbay." She nodded to Hades and headed off the bridge, she needed to know if Kaden was amongst those retrieved.

USS Luna

Lee was in the command chair as he saw the battle going on, things where not looking good. "Helm set a course to have the Luna protect the Mercy as it assists the Saratoga."

Tim knew that things were going to get a bit hot, looking to his team he said, “I Need the shields strength running at 110 percent.”

USS Mercy, transporter room one

With emergency transport complete, the work of the medical staff began. Assessing the survivors, Doctor Corrigan was the calm at the centre of the storm as more and more survivors were rescued from the Saratoga.

“... triage, sickbay, triage, triage. Ashleigh, beam this ensign straight to sickbay, stay with him,” she ordered as more teams arrived to assist. This had been contingency plan S. And a little of plan E.

“The last survivors are aboard,” Ensign Jamison reported, “they have multiple serious casualties, Ensign Maxwell is asking if a team can get to him. It’s room two.”

Leaving Dr Reid to take over, Carolyn set off. It was a battle of its own kind, so many people in the corridor making their way to other parts of the ship. “Someone get security down here to help,” she called back in the general direction of her teams.

“Help! someone get over here!” Shouted a woman as she shoved her way through the crowd holding her arm covered in burns.

“I’m here,” Carolyn promised as she almost ran straight into the woman, taking in her injuries.

Glad to see Dr. Corrigan she took her hand pulling her through the crowd onto the end of the transporter pad. Two officers sat holding up their burned hands begging the doctor to help them. But the woman glared at them. “You both need to wait!” She pointed to a blanket next to them. “Help him first, Doc, please he needs you more!” She begged.

“I need room!” She called out, tricorder out as she knelt down on the floor.

Kaden was laying there unresponsive the whole left side of face and body along as his entire back was covered in burns. His flesh of course was still smoldering part of his oxygen mask he wore was melted and his breathing was erratic.

One of the officers with the burnt hands spoke up. “He used his body to shield a crewman from the fire. We was able to drag him onto the escape pod and use the blanket to put the fire, Ma’am.” He said.

Carolyn nodded, working quickly. They had tried to help yet the blanket had started melting into his burnt flesh. “I know you can’t hear me, Kaden, but you better fight,” she whispered as she looked back at the ensign at the transporter controls, “beam us directly into OR1, now!”

Rushing down to Sickbay, Ariana arrived to see the medical staff organised but no sign of Kaden. She was wondering around looking lost until she heard mention of Colonel Ross being in the O.R. Moving over outside the O.R. all she could do was wait.

"Counsellor Monroe?" Dr Mendez called out as he emerged from the surgical suite, crossing towards her. "Dr Corrigan noticed you out here and sent me to see if you were alright. If you are looking for an overall update on the survivors, Dr Reid will be able to -"

"Please have Doctor Reid provide Commander Hades with a full report. I need to know about Kaden...Colonel Ross!" Ariana looked at Mendez. "I need to know how he is."

Mendez sighed, his inherent irritability coming through. "It is serious, but he is in the best of hands," he pointed out as the ship took a hit. "We would appreciate it if the ship could hold still. Believe me, Counsellor, the best thing you can do for him is to help us get out of this in one piece. Doctor Corrigan is still doing an assessment of the injuries and when he is stable, I will have her contact you with an update. Let us do our work, goodness knows we have enough of it to do..."

With that he turned on his heels and hurried back into surgery.

Ariana shook her head and turned to head back to the bridge. No doubt Hades would be needing her back.

As Ariana entered the bridge Hades was none too pleased. He fisted the coms section. "Hades to Corrigan Get ready for another wave. "This time there will be no transporting unless I give the order." He turned to navigation. Monitor the other ships. Also begin scanning for escape pods. He'd seen a few shoot out before the explosion. "We need to pick them up." He turned to Ariana. "Medical team to the transporter room."

"Aye Sir" Ariana tapped her comm badge. =/\= Medical team to the transporter room! =/\= with that she headed off to meet them there.

Yorktown

Sir, the USS Challenger is taking a beating, and Captain LaForge reports Commander Data has been damaged, he's suffered a cascade failure to his neural net, went offline, then revered back to old programming. They're also trying to fight fires and are falling back.” Commander Rann reported from the rear station.

"Damnit." K'Temoc said. With the Saratoga gone and the Challenger heavily damaged, the attack wasn't going as planned. Then again, battle plans are only good until the shooting started.

"Signal the New Hampshire, tell Colonel Pike to move up in the formation." K'Temoc ordered.

The Yorktown shook from a hit, a Romulan Shrike was trying to get behind them. The Yorktown dodged left, the cut right before performing an old maneuver called a Split-S. She fell in behind the small Romulan ship. Her pulse phasers then ripped into the green vessel as it exploded.

New Hampshire

Nathaniel spoke from tactical "Sir, we've been ordered to move up and engage."

Jack nodded "Helm move us up closer."

The New Hampshire moved up closer, firing its phasers once in range.

Lexington

"Commander, a Krazzle ship to port is trying to break off from the fight, it's nursing a damaged impulse engine." Roebuck reported.

"Let's give them a hand with that." Stark replied.

The Sovereign class USS Lexington turned to port and increased speed. After a few moments several photon torpedoes burst from her forward launders. They impacted against the damaged ship and blew it apart.

"Commander, the Gorn are trying to use some kind of rotating-EM pulse to jam sensors. I've seen this used to jam communications before, but not to blind sensors." Wayne reported.

Vanguard

"How is he?" Mac asked the EMH.

"Mister Carter will be fine, I need to get him to sickbay to treat the burns." The EMH replied.

Mac nodded. "Ballard, take Tactical Two."

The Prometheus class ship shook from another hit.

"Damn, I can't get a lock on it." Metsker reported from Tactical One.

"Murphy, emergency stop and Z minus one thousand meters." Mac ordered.

The Vanguard came to a sudden stop and her thrusters pushed her down. The pursuing Gorn ship flew passed.

"Full impulse, fire." Mac said.

The ship sped back up then phasers and quantum torpedoes finished off the Gorn cruiser.

Kearsarge

The Galaxy class ship shook from another hit.

"SShieldss at eighty perrccent." Taz reported from Tactical.

The officer at operations looked up, "Oh shit!"

Much like had happened with the Saratoga a Breen ship made a kamikaze-like run on the Kearsarge. The Breen ship fired at near point blank ranged. The Ensign at Flight Control hit his head on the panel as he was tossed from his seat While he was trying to catch his breath after the fall General Hurd jumped into the seat to pilot the ship when it was hit again and the conn panel blew out. Hurd was thrown back to the captain's chair. He had burns on his face and hands.

"Medical team to the Bridge!" Lennox called.

Helm control was rerouted to Ops, and the Kearsarge turned away for a moment to assess the damage.

"Sshieldss down to fifty one perrccent." Taz reported as he fired again on the Breen ship, this time destroying it.

"Get us back into the fight and divert aux power to the shields.

"Major, he has a concussion and a broken clavicle. We have to get him to Sickbay." The medic said as he scanned Hurd.

Olivia arrived on the bridge to help check on the wounded. Arriving just in time to hear the diagnosis on Hurd. "I can help!" She looked at the other medic. "Let's get him moved!"

"We have two warrbirrdss converrging on uss." Taz reported.

Lennox nodded, took a breath, then sat in the command chair. "Kearsarge to New Hampshire, Colonel we could use an assist here."

USS Yorktown

The Yorktown shook from another hit.

"Shields at seventy-three percent." Harper reported from Tactical One.

“Lieutenant, signal the Vanguard to close the gap on us, and ask General Klag to commit the Klingon reserves to the battle.” K’Temoc said as he pulled himself up off the deck and back into the Captain’s chair. The corner of his mouth had a cut and blood dripped down his beard.

“Admiral, a squadron of Romulan ships is trying to turn our flank. The USS Exeter has been destroyed and the USS Verity and USS Percival are taking heavy fire.” Commander Rann reported from the rear station.

“Danielle, can you clear that Gorn jamming signal?” K’Temoc asked his fiance.

“Working on it dear.” Cole replied as she flashed a smile at K’Temoc.

The Tactical panels beeped, “Admiral, I’m picking up a distortion, behind the Romulans, bearing 063 mark 215.” Harper reported from Tactical One. "I can't get a clear reading on it through the Gorn jamming."

USS Vanguard

“I’m not sure what it is, but it’s not a decloaking ship.” Metsker reported from Tactical One.

“Murphy, get us closer to the Yorktown, we’re getting too far apart.” MacLeod ordered.

"Commander, the Cardassian Galor class destroyer Axnol and the Klingon Vorcha' Hag'sa have been destroyed." Metsker reported. "General Klag's reserves are engaging the Krazzle near the center."

“Commander! It IS a ship!” Ballard added from Tactical Two excitedly. "Dropping out of slipstream."

MacLeod walked over behind his tactical officers. “Is that, who I think it is?”

One of the Romulan ships baring down on the Yorktown, Vanguard, and their Klingon escorts exploded, then another was hit, lost its port nacelle and turned away from the battle.

“Hell yeah!” Archer said aloud from the Operations position as the ship became clear on his sensor read out.

USS Yorktown

“I’ll be damned!” K’Temoc said with a smile.

“Admiral, the Romulans that were threatening our flank, they’ve turned off and are in pursuit of them!” Rann reported, more excitedly than anyone had heard him.

“Oh, yeah. They absolutely hate that damn ship!” Harper commented with a smile.

Romulan Flagship

Romulan Admiral Tomalak stood, "Impossible!"

"Romulan Wing Three, destroy that damn ship!" Sub-Commander Elok called over the comm.

"We saw the report, it was destroyed." Tomalak added. He looked defeated as he slouched in his chair.

The Pegasus turned to starboard as the squadron of Romulan ships turned to follow her. As she moved she unleashed a spread of Hellfire torpedoes at the Gorn and Romulan ships baring down on the rest of the Starbase 400 ships.

USS Vanguard

“Commander, the Pegasus has managed to open a hole near the center of their line!” Cross reported from the Intel position.

"Murphy." MacLeod said.

"On it." Murphy replied.

The Vanguard turned to follow the Pegasus. "Metsker, give the Pegasus some cover fire."

USS Pegasus

Draven's 1960's rock music was blaring from the speakers on the bridge. The Rolling Stones sang, "...I look inside myself and see my heart is black, I see my red door I must have it painted black, Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts, It's not easy facin' up, when your whole world is black..."

“Chief, take us right down the line between the Alliance and Typhon Pact fleets. Let’s see if we can draw away a few more ships.” Bremer ordered. The bridge behind him showed signs of recent fires and battle damage. Mike himself had a cut on his right cheek from a recent battle. Science Two and Mission Ops were both offline and opti-cable from them had been pulled and and plugged into Science One and the Engineer stations on the back wall to provide them power.

“Starships Yorktown and Vanguard have formed up on us, two more of our pursuers have been destroyed.” Commander Roebuck reported. "We also have a handful of Klingon ship's tailing us and firing on the Romulans."

“First Ramata’tar, target the closest warbird, quantum torpedoes and phasers, make ‘em burn.” Bremer ordered.

Several bright blue quantum torpedoes burst from the Pegasus’s aft launchers, most hitting the Romulan ship, cutting through its shields. Several well placed phaser hits knocked out its forward weapons array, then caused the starboard nacelle to explode as it fell back. The warbird was then strafed by several Klingon Birds of Prey and exploded.

“Pegasus to all ships, this is Fleet Admiral Bremer, I’m taking command of the fleet. Form up on us, we’re going to push through right here!” Bremer said over the comm to all Alliance ships.

As the Pegasus came to course on a heading straight for RDB8, the rest of the fleet formed up on her. The Essex, Yorktown, Luna, Kearsarge, Steadfast, Lexington, Ark Royal, Vanguard, Falcon, Venator, and the rest of the Seventh Fleet intermingled with the Second Klingon Battlegroup and the Third Cardassian Order. Even the Mercy and Endeavor dropped into the middle of the formation for protection and not wanting to be left behind and vulnerable. Fighters from the 181st Tactical Fighter Wing also formed up and weaved in and out of the ship formation. However the Second Romulan Republic Fleet that had promised to joint them, still hadn’t arrived.

As the two fleets came head to head again, torpedoes burst forward while disruptors and phasers flared and together they made a mighty salvo directed at the Typhon Pact fleet that had assembled to stop them from reaching RDB8. The onslaught from the Alliance ships cut a gap in the Typhon Pact ships. Several Gorn ships exploded, while a handful of Krazzle and Miradorn vessels turned back.

Pegasus

“Pegasus to all ships. Federation ships, engage the base and their defensive arrays, Klingon and Cardassian ships hold off those Typhon Pact vessels for just a few minutes.” Bremer ordered over the comm.

The Klingons turned to starboard and laid into the enemy ships trying to give the Federation ships time to attack the main target, Romulan Defense Base 8 except for a few of the Klingon reserve ships. The old k't' inga class vessels were outfit with heavy disruptors instead of forward photon torpedo launchers and they reformed with the Federation ships to attack the base...just what they were designed to do.

The Cardassian ships turned to port and engaged the enemy fleet as well, however several Keldon class cruisers launched their compliment of Dreadnought missiles at the base first.

The small missiles maneuvered around and passed the Federation ships. Many drew fire from RDB8 and its defensive arrays. At the same time, several old Soyuz class ships that had recently been modernized and recommissioned out of the reserve fleet at the outset of the war also moved up in the formation. Like the old Klingon k't' inga, these ships were designed to attack heavily shielded targets. With the missiles drawing the defensive fire of the base, this allowed the Federation ships and Klingon ships with them a clear path and they unleashed hell on the defensive arrays and the base itself. No less than six missiles hit the base and set it ablaze while the fleet finished off the job then turned away as RDB8 exploded in a brilliant flash of light.

"That's for Denobula." Someone said over the comms

"And for Manora." A Cardassian added.

A Klingon grunted, "And for Ty'Gokor."

The Federation ships then waded back into the battle against the enemy fleet.

“Pegasus to Essex. Deela, take the, Luna, Kearsarge, Steadfast, Ark Royal, and Task Forces One and Two with you and assist the Cardassians. Pegasus will take the Yorktown, Vanguard, Falcon, Lexington and Task Forces Three and Four and assist the Klingons. The Venator, Challenger, and New Hampshire will fall back with the Endeavor, Mercy, and any heavily damaged ships and provide them protection. Let’s mop these bastards up so we can go home!

However a new threat relieved itself as the Scimitar type warbird Tomal arrived with a dozen other Romulan ships as well as a massive Krazzle Tigris class dreadnought. The battle was far from over!

181st

Major Chuck McDaniels, 181st six Scorpion were amongst the battle as well strafing the Romulans to draw fire from the Endeavour. Joined by six more the wing group now had the fire power of a star ship.

" Never fear the 181st is here." McDaniel poked as his craft, the Snoopie 2, blasted away into his targets shields.

Major Ed Maxwell, was for lack of a better word, annoyed. His group should have been launched as soon as they'd arrived, but there'd been a malfunction with the launch bay doors. Precious time had been chewed up while the problem was resolved, despite the fact he had offered an immediate kinetic solution to the problem, and now he and his fighters screamed out of the hangar and into the fight.

"One Eight One, this is Reaper. Sorry to be late boys, but we had a mechanical issue with the hangar doors and the Captain wouldn't let me blow them open. You've got twelve Gryphs and twelve Redemps inbound." He announced over an open fleet channel before switching back to his own group's channel. "

"Hellcats, see what you can do about those guys pestering the Kearsage. Ghosts Seven through Twelve, provide escort. Two through Six, on me. Let's get into this furball."

"Hellcats copy boss."

"Seven here. You got it Reaper."

" Thanks for the help Reaper," Major McDaniel from the 181st added,

USS Essex

The Essex had been lucky so far that she had minimal damage. When Bremer showed up, her bridge crew gave a short cheer. T’Lar was glad about Bremer being alive. He was too good of a warrior to fail.

Hearing his voice, she smiled slightly. That was short lived, “Understood.” She added, “And sir, it is good to have you back.” As soon as communications stopped, she informed the other four ships and the two task forces to follow the Essex and help the Cardassians.

Major Lennox of the Kearsarge informed her that they had taken some damage and shields power was cut, but they were working on the situation. Also, that Hurd had been injured. T’Lar responded, “Hang back for now. The Steadfast will cover you.” She informed Captain Harrison the situation at hand.

Captains Harrison, Pike and Solomon and Major Lennox’s ships all began to follow The Essex. The Cardassians were taking heavy fire when they got there. There was no rest for the weary. The Kearsarge hung back as ordered but continued to fight with the Steadfast, protecting it.

USS Falcon

"Mister Carrington keep on the port side of the USS Pegasus." Ezekiel called out as the scimitar de-cloaked. He wanted to make sure, they flagship was well protected. He had a bad feeling about this scimitar.

"Aye captain." Sam said, as he navigated the ship into position.

"Commander Rodgers, prepare to coordinate all weapons fire with the Pegasus." Ezekiel ordered, as he looked over to Sarah, who was manning the tactical station.

“Yes Sir,” Sarah called putting. She went to work. It wasn’t long before she was ready. “Ready when you are, Captain. I have our weapons ready to fire in unison with the Pegasus.” Being a part of this meant a lot to all of them.

"Very well standby." Zeke called out, as he looked on from the main tactical viewer. He was a bit anxious.

USS Ark Royal

Having been reassigned to the task group under Admiral T'Lar, The Ark Royal fell inline with the other ships in the group: The Luna, Kearsarge, Steadfast and Task Forces One and Two. As the starships headed towards their intended targets, Jack made his way back up from Engineering to the Bridge.

"Ops, open a channel to the Essex," he ordered as he entered the Bridge.

"Channel open, sir," responded Raven.

"Admiral, we're deploying the virus on the enemy vessels. Its proven effective on the Typhon Pact vessels so far and it's slowing them down. Trying to stay in contact with each other is causing them issues and allowing us to press forth our attack," he explained. Once the message was acknowledged, Jack settled in as the action began.

"Ops, keep running the virus out as much as you can, the more we can distract the enemy, the better our chances are of success. Tactical, careful on your targets, we're not able to take the same pounding that the other newer starships can. Let's not get bitten before we can be effective. Engineering, make sure that you equalize the power between the virus deployment and our shields, the last thing we need is that virus backfiring on us. Keep the shields strong but allow the emitter plenty of latitude." Jack gave out his orders and then watched as the firefight continued.

USS Essex

Lt Commander Croesus at Ops received the word about the virus and immediately uploaded its schematics to the Essex, patching it into the ships subspace antenna for broadcasting.
" We have extended the virus range, Qapla."

"Good." T'Lar looked over at Lt. Henshaw, "How are our shields holding up Mr. Henshaw?"

"Okay, maintain power to the shields." She then spoke to everyone on the bridge, "The virus seems to be working. Let's take advantage of it. And make sure that nothing happens to the Ark Royal."

USS Mercy

The Mercy had dropped back, so far she'd managed to get through with barely a scratch. Pretty fortunate given the wounded that were onboard and they'd no doubt have more by the time they returned to Starbase 400.

Ariana sighed as she sat in her seat. "Keep your eyes peeled ladies and gentlemen, I don't want any surprises. Plus we have ships to cover."

Hades sat in his seat. This was a good time. "Ariana, join me in my ready room." He looked over at Berges. "Lieutenant you have the bridge."

He stood expecting Ariana to follow.

Ariana followed as requested, wondering if she was about to get an earful for misjudged actions or whether Hades wanted something else.

Pegasus

The warbird Tomal took a couple of hits as another warbird to its left exploded. A Miranda class ship tried to get close the the massive vessel and was nearly vaporized under its intense fire.

The Pegasus an her escorts streaked by, firing all weapons, but taking hits of their own at the same time. A Vorcha' exploded behind the Pegasus, but the Vanguard and Lexington poured photon torpedoes and phaser fire into the enemy ships. A Breen ship caught fire and veered off while a a Krazzle cruiser flew by before meeting its doom as well at the hands of multiple Birds of Prey.

"Admiral, the enemy fleet is turning away." Ramata'tar calmly reported.

"Looks like we've finally knocked the fight out of them." Draven added, "They've lost nearly two thirds of their ships."

"We're not much better off. The Cardassians have lost over sixty percent of their ships, the Klingon thirty, and we've lost about thirty percent too." Roebuck said.

"Signal all ships. Ask the Klingons and Cardassians to fall back to DS6 while all Federation ships return to Starbase 400." Bremer said.

Falcon

Ezekiel was very impressed with Samuel's piloting skills, and Sarah's tactical keen sense. The Falcon, was able to help keep some of the heat off the USS Pegasus, when she engaged the warbirds. Ezekiel was very proud of his crew. "Damage report, all stations." Ezekiel called out.

“Engineering is good Sir,” Aubrey’s voice came over the comm. “we sustained very minor damage that can be repaired in no time.”

“Medical reporting in as fine,” Anna responded next.

"Keep the line open Anna." Ezekiel told her, as he waited for last two to respond. He was very proud of the Falcon, and her crew.

After the other two senior officers reported in Ezekiel ordered Samuel to plot a course for Deep Space Six.

"How we are looking in sickbay, can we take on some of the wounded, if need be?" Ezekiel asked, as he asked, Anna hoping she would say yes.

“Yes,” Anna replied. “If beds fill up we will make room.” She wanted to help out as much as she could.
