Personal History | Who is Dustin: Dustin is a happy person struggling with his duty to starfleet and his loyalty to those he works with. While he served on the USS Polycom, he struggled to find his place. Dustin spends a lot of time trying to prove his worth to those he serves with, and can appear to be a little standoff. Dustin is very friendly to all. Because of this, he tends to hide in the holodeck or in his quarters. He wanted those that served with him to take him seriously. While on the clock, he tries to focus on his duty, to prevent him from opening his mouth too much. He was cited for two infractions during the academy for talking. Minor infractions, but enough to scare him. His biggest problem is he wants to be liked by all, and he knows that is not possible. But it did not stop him in the past, back during his academy days. Since being on the USS Polycom and now Heyerdahl Station, he is looking for balance. He believes that his reassignment to Heyerdahl Station is the key for a new change, a new chance. He plans on taking full advantage of it. Dustin blames his parents for his compulsive needs to make new friends. He was a single child growing up and always on the move. It was hard for him to make long term friends. Before the destruction of the USS Polycom, he was starting a path to open up. He is trying to go out to the lounge and interact, taking small steps first. He was later assigned to Heyerdahl Station as Security Lead. As a promise to his old officer in charge, he would work on finding a balance of being sociable and being the best security officer he could be. Dustin and his family: Dustin’s parents love him very much, and he loves them too. He feels a lot of resentment for being an only child. His parents were more focused on their careers than trying to have a family. He felt there was never any stability in his life, beyond his parents loving him. He had a decent childhood, and hated it. He wished his early life would have been more impactful. He always hoped that his parents would have more kids, so he could play with someone. But now as an adult, he felt that he robbed himself of his childhood, because of his pettiness attitude about being a single child. Dustin joined Starfleet to make friends, he remembered the recruiter saying that serving in starfleet was liking getting a second family. A close bond, from people who dedicate themselves to the betterment of all mankind. He bought the recruiters speech, he wanted to belong to a larger family. His parents supported his decision to join. Serving Starfleet: Dustin graduated high school in 2389 and registered as a first year cadet, with the unrealistic expectation, he would be mister popular. Because his parents were both starship captains. He tried way too hard to be friendly to all. Some people liked him, others found him to be annoying. Dustin found it hard to find a happy balance in his life, a lot of the cadets hated him. He ended up driving most of them away. He felt lonely and kicked himself for ruining his chance to be popular. Dustin graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2383, and was assigned to the USS Polycom, and struggled to redeem himself after making a fool of himself at the Academy. He promised to himself that he would make the job come first, and socialize in the holodeck, with a program that would not think less of him, if he was annoying, or a little eager. The USS Polycom was destroyed in 2395, Dustin and several others were rescued and reassigned. Dustin asked not to be re assigned to the new USS Polycom, that was being built. Dustin had spent the last two years with the Polycom crew, and was ready lead his own department. He applied for a department head role, and was accepted on the USS Falcon, attached to Starbase 400. |
