Mission:
Mission 80 - Outpost
Location: Starbase 400, Various Ships
Timeline: Two hours after 'Stress and Planning
ON:
The moment had arrived. It was time for the ships from Starbase 400 to move out.
Admiral Bremer stepped on the Bridge of the Pegasus. Chief Branson turned around from the position at Conn, but before he could call everyone to attention Mike just shook his head and smiled.
Mike looked over at Harrison standing at Tactical, and something caught his eye. He walked over to the Captain and asked, “What’s that on your finger?”
"Sir?" She looked down at her finger, "Oh yeah." She smiled, "Captain Pike and I are engaged."
Bremer smiled, “Congratulations, I’m very happy for you both…just don’t be asking for any time off.” He flashed a warm smile again before walking down to the middle of the Bridge and took his seat.
Chief Banson was at the Conn, Lieutenant Archer was at Ops, Captain Harrison was at Tactical, Sogh Varn was at Mission Operations, Ensign Vortek was at Strategic Operations, Ensign Lee was at Intel, Warrant Officer Blackthorne was at Engineering, Lieutenant Gilmore was at Science One, and Doctor Mclintock was in Sick Bay and the XO’s chair was empty.
The Pegasus was ready.
Vid-Lotilija awoke early, it was barely 5:00, but nervousness from being in a new environment and completely unprepared made sleeping impossible. She got up, showered and when was completely ready to report to Pegasus, sat to read about the Senior staff, she met them during the briefing, but it was so overwhelming that she just stayed sitting in the room when everyone already left. Doing the reading she indulged in a heavy breakfast. When it was half an hour till the departure, she left her quarters and went to the Pegasus. Badly assessing the time needed to get there, she reached the Bridge last possible moment before being late. When got there she rushed to the center chair. "Lieutenant Vid-Lotilija reporting for duty, Sir."
Bremer stood up, “Welcome aboard Lieutenant. I apologize had haven’t had a chance to meet until now.”
"Thank you, Sir, it's good to be here. No apology needed, I arrived shortly before the briefing. Commander Coleman was just showing me to my quarters on the station when the call to briefing arrived." She bowed slightly. You will never see her say thank you, or show respect saying it. Bow means both and is the most honest way she will do it. "I see we're ready for departure, your orders, Sir?"
“Take Science One please.” Mike said to the new Chief Science Officer as Gilmore moved to Science Two.
Another bow and she moved to the primary Science station, logging into it she adapted the height and the positioning of the various scan settings and readouts on the console to fit what she is used to, to can observe most important changes fast. Being done with it before engage order was given she turned to the officer on the science two. "Gilmore, right? Nice to meet you, I'm Vid-Lotilija."
Yorktown, Bridge
Aboard the Yorktown K’Temoc was standing at Tactical Two while K’Wor sat at Tactical One, Coleman sat at Engineering, Ensign Regan was at the forward Conn/Ops position.
“Ensign, try to re-engage the phaser safeties again.” K’Temoc said as he tapped in commands.
K’Wor shook his head, “They failed to engage again.”
“Captain, thrusters are down on the port side again.” Regan said.
K’Temoc stood up and shook his head, “I really thought those eggheads had everything fixed”
“Eggheads?” Brandy asked from the Conn.
“Yard Engineers…no offense Commander.” K’Temoc replied with a smirk.
Coleman smirked back before saying, "Don't worry sir, we can be a bunch of Eggheads sometimes. Only on bad days though."
“All right, let’s get these bugs worked out, I don’t want to have to drop out of formation en route to Iconia, or fall back during a fight.” K’Temoc said.
Coleman nodded and said, "We'll have it fixed up within the next hour or so. If you'll need me, I'll be down in Engineering fixing the bugs." With that, Coleman turned on a heel and headed out the port side entrance.
Sutherland, Bridge
Andy Entered the Bridge of the Sutherland and he saw Lt Cdr Brislan seated next to the Command chair, Good sign, as soon as he was noticed someone called "CAPTAIN ON BRIDGE!!"
Everyone snapped at attention, and he proceed to the command chair as he sat he opened a channel to the ship and said "This is General Jones all stations report go or no go for launch"
Suddenly all bridge crew begun to report.
"Captain, Sickbay is go," Tressa said, after Engineering, Science, and Tactical had reported remotely.
Holly reported from ship's operations, "All systems are clear. No department has reported a no go, so we're green for launch Captain."
"Nice job... Inform the Pegasus we are clear for launch", answered Andy
Essex, Bridge
VAdm. T'Lar walked onto the bridge. There she found Commander Clifford standing in front of his chair. Over at Tactical was Commander Lokran to name a few. Dr. King was in Sickbay. T'Lar sat down, "T'Lar to Sickbay."
"Sickbay here."
"We're about ready to leave. Make sure that you have Sickbay ready for anything."
"Sickbay is ready Captain," said Rachael.
T'Lar looked over at Cmdr. Clifford, "See what I mean by being careful what you wish for?" She softly chuckled, "At least we won't be bored."
Andrew laughed at the Admirals comment. He always knew that if you say something like that it would come back and bite you in the behind, "We certainly won't, Admiral." He waited for the admiral to sit down then did so himself, "The Essex is back to full operation, plus a couple of extras I managed to sneak past the design crew", he didn't elaborate but was the sure the Admiral would ask when the time was right.
All departments reported ready and were now awaiting orders. T'Lar sat back in her chair but she far from relaxed.
Andrew pulled out his padd and started checking the ships reports again. This was the third time he had done it, but better safe than sorry. If he had missed anything, later in the mission was not the time to find out.
Saratoga, Bridge
Last night, after the meeting Saith had gone back to quarters and studied up on Iconia, the Dominion, and the Jem Hadar. She was well aware of the basics, but delved deeper into the situation and peoples involved to prepare her for what might come.
As she boarded the Saratoga and stowed her gear in her assigned quarters, Saith thought about Captain Pike’s answer and reaction to her Section 31 question. She did not know for sure who section 31 was, or if they were trouble, but they smelled like it. She also knew that the pirate code she had cracked would only be good for a short time, but maybe that would be sufficient.
Once her gear was sufficiently stowed, she headed for the bridge of the Saratoga. This ship was like any other ship to her. They all were basically the same, so she paid little attention as she went; it wasn't like she would get lost. As the turbolift dumped her out, she swept a glance over the bridge crew; a few looked her way and went back to their work. A Lt. Cmdr was currently in the center chair, so she had beaten the Captain here.
She moved to a station and sat down. Looking at the viewer she could image the other ships' crews were getting revved up and ready to go. Again looking around the bridge, she saw the Saratoga crew was doing the same. Anticipation was high; so were nerves if Saith guessed right.
Lee finally had managed to make it onto the bridge with Sgt. Maal right behind him. He spotted Ensign Bartaan on the bridge already.
Maal:"Captain on the bridge."
Saith stood for inspection as the Captain was announced.
Lee nodded to the bridge crew:"At ease everyone. Ensign Bartaan I need to see you in my ready room."
Saith nodded, "Yes sir." She followed him off the bridge.
Lee entered the ready room and walked over to replicator and got himself a cup of coffee."Have a seat Ensign. Care for something to drink?"
"No thank you sir." she said although she thought a Romulan ale would have been nice right about now. There were definitely things she missed about her home.
Lee tapped the comm panel on the desk."Major Hurd report to my ready room."
Lee took a sip from his coffee:"And to answer your question earlier Ensign, you hardly ever trust Section 31, so yes you should be worried about them."
Hearing his name being called, Major Hurd tapped his combadge and replied, ''Aye aye sir, on my way.'' Standing up, he walked out of his quarters and to the nearest turbolift. As he stepped inside, he said, ''Ready Room''.
Saith looked at him thoughtfully for a moment. "I thought they seemed . . . lluadhe (sneaky)." She continued "So it would stand to reason that the individual who appears to have received that message is either a member of Section 31 and very dangerous, or he is being completely set up for a fall.
He then sat down at the desk:"Another reason I called you in here is I want you to serve as my Chief Security/Tactical for this mission, Sgt. Maal will be the one to back you up."
Saith paused to chose her words carefully, "I am honored to do so, and appreciate the opportunity, however I should tell you Captain, that I am not completely at odds with . . . shall we say loose factions . . . at this time. Just yesterday Admiral Bremer and I had brief meeting . . ." she was sure he knew all about her meeting with the Admiral. Without finishing that sentence she looked in his eyes and said, "and I have respect for you, so I feel you should know this. I know there are some who have . . . strong feelings about the Jem Hadar, I sir, do not. I care not one way or another about them."
Lee nodded:"I have respect for you as well Saith. Yes do know that a few people here and there do have strong feelings about the Jem Hadar. Myself am not their biggest fan but I learn to deal with it."
"Yes, sir. As you know I had my own history on Rihan, and in the Empire. I just thought you should know that I am not necessarily out for blood. Some would think that a bad thing." Saith smiled grimly at the Captain.
"I know a lot of people lost loved ones durning the Dominion War. I myself lost my grandparents on my mother's side when Betazed was taken over."
"Elements take your sorrows Captain."
Major Hurd exited the turbolift, and walked swiftly to the ready room door. Pausing for a moment to straighten his uniform, he hit the door chime button and awaited permission to enter.
Lee looked towards the door:"Come"
David walked in, snapped to attention, and saluted, saying, ''Major David Hurd senior reporting in as orderd sir!''
Lee rose from his desk and held out his hand:"Welcome Major glad you could join us."
Hurd returned Lee's hand shake, and said in a confident voice, ''Its a pleasure to be here sir''
He pointed to the other seat:"Have you meet Ensign Bartan here."
Looking to the Ensign, Hurd said, ''No sir, i don't belive i have had the pleasure, sir''
Saith rose and shook Major Hurd's hand. "Major, a pleasure," she said in the Human custom.
Lee finished his coffee:"Well the main reason I called you in here Major is I would like to make you my XO for this mission."
Looking directly at Lee, David straightend up in his chair, sitting ramrod straight, and said, ''Aye sir, what are my orders sir?''
Lee looked straight at David:"Your orders are like what was discussed on Star Base 400 durning the big meeting, you and your Marines are to deploy only if need be. Otherwise normal duties of being an XO and making sure your Marines are ready."
Saith glanced at Major Hurd, he was much less reticent about this than she was. Glancing back at Captain Pike, she said "well I guess we are all set then."
Lee nodded:"That we are set, let's get back to the bridge and get under way with the rest of the group. He rose from his desk.
David stood with Lee, and said, in a concentrated voice, '' Aye aye sir, they will be ready''. With that, he followed the Captain to the bridge, and took a position sitting to the Captain's left.
Lee exited the ready room and went and sat down in the command chair:"Ops inform the Pegasus we are ready."
Lt. Rice:"Yes sir."
Essex, Bridge
Deela stood up and moved towards the front of the bridge, "Lt. Doyle, please inform Admiral Bremer that the Essex is ready for departure."
"Aye" the helmsman replied.
"As soon as the Pegasus starts to move out, do the same." Deela then sat back down.
Pegasus, Bridge
Back aboard the Flagship, the comm beeped. “Admiral, Captain Greenwood on the line.” Archer announced.
"Trying to sneak off on me Admiral?" Ryan said smirking.
Mike smirked, “All right Ryan, join the party. I’ll have K’Wor beam over to the Avenger from the Yorktown and Gilmore will also beam over from here.” Mike nodded to Ariel as she stood up from Science Two and dead toward the Transporter Room. “I’ll also have Captain Dow beam up from the surface and take Command of SB400 while we’re away.”
"Thank you Admiral. We will be ready as soon as the repair teams from the base leave. Greenwood Out."
Bremer leaned back in his chair. Another ship in the Task Force wouldn’t hurt at all, especially if the Dominion Outpost had some tricks of their own up their sleeves.
Now, the Pegasus, Essex, Yorktown, Defiant, Avenger, Saratoga, and Sutherland were ready to depart. The Vanguard, Venator, Ark Royal, Laffey, Kearsarge, and Durga would also be departing, but they would break off from the Task Force and hold position near DS6, acting as a reserve force…just in case.
Yorktown, Bridge
K’Wor smiled, “That’s got it, Phaser safeties are back online.”
“Good work Ensign.” K’Temoc smiled at his nephew, then the panel to his left beeped.
“Looks like the Avenger is joining the Task Force after all, and you’ve been ordered to report aboard.” K’Temoc said as he looked at K’Wor.
The young Acting-Ensign stood up, “Who’s take over Tactical here?”
“Sogh M`Kota can take over.” K’Temoc replied.
K’Wor nodded and headed for the Transporter Bay.
Avenger, Bridge
A few minutes later, K’Wor and Gilmore arrived on the Bridge and reported for duty. Lieutenant JG Trisha Lee was at Ops, even though she was an Engineer, she was most qualified for Ops. With twelve of Starbase 400’s eighteen Starships heading out, everyone was a little short handed…
Ryan turned to the Ensign. "Welcome aboard Ensign. Take your post and do what you do best." Ryan had been feeling good about getting out of the starbase after being stuck there for repairs.
K'Wor nodded and stepped behind the Tactical station. He looked down at the panel...but in his mind he flashed back the moment he looked down at Adams's lifeless body. After a moment he blinked his eyes and returned to the present. 'Should of meet with that Counselor' he thought to himself as he checked the Avenger's tactical systems.
"Helm, Start undocking procedures. Go to yellow alert once we clear the base." Ryan ordered.
Pegasus, Bridge
"Admiral, all ship's report ready for departure." Archer reported.
"Chief, clear all moorings and release docking clamps." Mike ordered.
"Umbilical and gravitational supports cleared, docking clamps released. Thrusters at station keeping." Branson replied.
"Take us out Chief." Mike said with a smile...it was good taking the Pegasus out again, even if it was for possible combat.
"Yes sir." Branson said with a smile. "Bow thrusters at half, backing off from our docking port. Port thrusters at one-third, coming around."
The large Galaxy Class Refit USS Pegasus eased back away from her docking port, then gently turned around to face the opening space doors.
As the ship turned, the Bridge crew could see the Essex, Yorktown, Avenger, Defiant, Saratoga, and Sutherland doing the same thing while the Vanguard, Venator, Ark Royal, Laffey, Kearsarge, and Durga were just starting their un-docking sequence.
Sutherland, Bridge
"Commander Brisland... Take her out... Coordinate with the Pegasus", said Andy to Teressa who was using the XO's spot.
Pegasus, Bridge
"One quarter impulse Chief." Mike added as the Pegasus started moving forward toward the giant space doors.
"One quarter impulse, aye sir." Branson replied.
"Once we're clear, have all ships form up, we'll proceed at warp eight." Mike added.
"Aye sir." Archer replied, "All ships acknowledged."
Within a matter of minutes, all twelve ships were formed up in two groups as they moved away from Starbase 400. Pegasus, Yorktown, Avenger, Defiant, Essex, Sutherland, and Saragota formed one group while the Vanguard, Venator, Ark Royal, Laffey, Kearsarge, and Durga formed the other, just behind the first.
The comm beeped and Captain Dow came on from Starbase 400's Ops, "Good luck, we'll be here waiting. Starbase 400 out."
"Thank you Captain." Mike replied over the comm, then he looked at Chief Branson. "Chief...Warp Eight...engage."
With that, the Task Force jumped to warp speed and were gone in the blink of an eye...
