HURD/DARTT WEDDING CEREMONY

Torilla raised an eyebrow as she settled back into her chair as she waited for the second wedding, the first had been entertaining and long awaited, she knew her family were just as patient as she was.

After he finished shaking Pike's hand, Col. Hurd returned to the back of the room, and re-assumed his ram-rod straight posture. He knew in his heart of hearts what was about to happen, and he was overjoyed. Hurd looked around the room, and quietly noted that quite a few sets of eyes were on him. Smiling inwardly, he awaited to be addressed.

Lee and Alex moved to the back of the room and remained at the wedding out of respect for Jewel and David's wedding.

The drums started to beat as K'leela walked up front and looked around the room and then the beating of the drums stopped. "With fire and steel did the gods forge the Klingon heart. So firecely did it beat, so loud was the sound, that the gods cried out: „On this day we have brought forth the strongest heart in all the heavens. None can stand before it without trembling at its strength." K'leela began.

"But then the Klingon heart weakened, its steady rhythm faltered, and the gods said. Why do you weaken so? We have made you the strongest in all of creation."

Hurd replied, in a steely voice, ''I am alone.''

"And the gods knew that they had erred. So they went back to their forge und brought forth another heart."

Jewel enters and joins David up front, as the sword bearer steps forward and both take the Bat'leth, K'leela continues. "But the second heart beat stronger than the first, and the first was jealous of its power."

The David swings his Bat'leth at Jewel, but she parries and gets her blade up to his neck. "Fortunately, the second heart was tempered by wisdom." K'leela replies looking at Jewel.

"If we join together, no forces can stop us." Jewel replies, Jewel takes her blade away from David's neck, and the two pull each other close, with their faces almost touching.

"And when the two hearts began to beat together, they filled the heavens with a terrible sound. For the first time, the gods knew fear. They tried to flee, but it was too late. The Klingon hearts destroyed the gods who created them and turnes the heavens to ashes. To this very day, no one can oppose the beating of two Klingon hearts." K'leela said.

"David son of David does your heart beat only for this woman?" K'leela asked.

Almost choking on his word, but managing to remain calm, David replied, ''It Does''.

"And will you swear to join with her and stand with her against all who would oppose you?" K'leela asked

Hurd replied, simply, ''I do''

"Jewel daughter of Simon does your heart beat only for this man?" K'leela asked.

"Yes," Jewel replied.

"And do you swear to join with him and stand with him against all who would oppose you?" K'leela asked.

"I swear," Jewel replied.

"Then let all present here today know that this man and this woman are married." K'leela stated to everyone present.

Jewel kissed David and smiled then turned to K'leela and bowed. Then looked at David.

David was almost at a loss for words, but he said, ''I love you Jewel.'' He the turned to K'leela, bowed for just a moment, and stood up, looking straight at her.

"Welcome to the house of Pir'up Pa my son," K'leela replied and hugged David. Then the two turned and waited for the party to attack them with the sticks.

The reception began immediately in the same place where the wedding was held. The food was brought in. It consisted of Klingon food as well as the usual standard food served in weddings. There were also a wide variety of beverages, something that would satisfy all.

The music played as everyone congratulated the happy couples. Deela walked over and gave Alex and Lee a congratulation hug. She then went off to mingle with the others. Unfortunately, she was called away.

Saith made the rounds and congratulated everyone, following other people’s leads. She shook hands and smiled, although she wasn’t really feeling it so much. Maal was speaking with Lee so she wandered over to a table and stood with her back against the wall.

Lee was standing there drinking bloodwine with Maal and Torg as they talked. Lee's parents came up and gave Lee a hug before going over to talk with Alex.

Alex looked around for Deela but didn't see her. She did see Deela's yeoman, Cara Lan and called her over. "Hey. By any chance, do you know where Vice Admiral T'Lar is? I can't find her."

Cara nodded, "Yeah, she was called away from the party. She had an urgent communique from Vice Admiral Janeway."

Alex frowned, "Okay, thanks." Alex wondered what that was all about.

Bremer made his way over to La Baron, now was as good a time as any to talk to the young man.

“Ensign, got a minute?” Bremer asked.

La Baron paused and nodded.

“I received your request, asking to transfer from Science to Command. I know you have some piloting experience, and Chief Flight Control Officer is open in the Command Department…would you be interested?” Bremer asked.

"Yes sir" La Baron replied.

Bremer smiled, “Then Ensign, you’re out of uniform.” Referring to the teal trim on La Baron’s Dress Uniform. “I’ll see you in Ops tomorrow morning, 0800 sharp.”

"Yes sir" La Baron replied with a smile.

K'nera then walked over finding Saith, she brought two cups with her, handing one to Saith:"Do you love my son?"

Saith turned to the woman, “Yes.” She hesitated a moment then went on, “I don’t know how much Maal has told you about me, but the short story is I am not good at,” another pause, “connecting with others. I have been working on being kinder, more sociable, that kind of thing. Actually, the thing that helps me the most is having Maal in my life. He has taught me much about love.” She took a sip of her drink. "For that matter, he has taught me a lot about honesty, honor, and trust." She shrugged wondering what K'nera would make of that.

K'nera stood there looking at Saith and then nodded:"Yes my son has told me a lot about you and your past." She took a sip of the Romulan ale she had. "Am glad to know that Maal is happy and I hope you two are together for many years to come."

K’nera’s words made Saith smile. “thank you,” she said softly. Nervously she took another sip of her ale.

"And when the time is right, you will be welcome into the House of Torg." Just then Maal approached with several other Klingons. Maal went over and stood behind Saith putting his arms around her.

Saith didn’t answer, she just leaned into Maal’s arms, knowing she was safe here. She still wasn’t sure about this marriage thing. She wondered what that meant that she was willing to have a child with Maal, but was nervous about any kind of marriage.

K'nera half turned and smiled:"Saith I would like for you to meet Maal's father and my husband Torg. Also Maal's brothers, Ja'Rod, Morath, Azhurlar, R'Kel." All of them nodded to Saith.

She half bowed back towards them, “I am honored to meet the House of Torg.” She looked up at Maal and smiled. She wasn't as nervous as she had been earlier.

Maal looked down at Saith and smiled then mouthed:"We will talk about all of this tonight."

Mike, Janice, K’Temoc, K’Wor, Becca all made their way around the room and took time to congratulate the happy couples. It was a happy time aboard Starbase 400, and these were some of the moments Mike cherished most.

While he and Janice were mingling, Q3 walked up to them. “I…just wanted to thank you.”

Mike about dropped his drink he was so surprised to hear a Q say ‘thank you’ not once, but twice in the same day.

“You’re welcome Q. I just hope you really mean that.” Mike paused, then added, “Just because you Q are omnipotent or the guardians of the galaxy, or whatever you call yourselves…it doesn’t give you the right to bully other species…it means you’re responsible for them.”

Q3 nodded, “It’s a lesson Q learned from Captain Picard and the Enterprise crew, Q2 learned from Captain Janeway and the Voyager crew, and I have learned from you and your crew.” Q3 flashed a smile, then continued, “I want to give you a gift, like they gifted the others. I know you both have experienced loss recently…”

Bremer cut Q3 off, “Q, loss is part of what makes us who we are…you can’t play God.”

Q3 smiled again, “I’m not, but I do want you, both of you, to know just how much Marc and Emma loved you.” Q3 gave a small fist pump, and in a brief flash of light, Mike and Janice both knew in their minds just how much their children, all of them, loved them.

Janice was brought to tears, which she tried to wipe away. Mike was also brought to tears as he too wiped them away, “Thank you Q.”

Phoenix left the reception unnoticed. She had done her job by showing up, but the array of happy families made her want to be alone with her own holos of her folks.

Torilla had never heard a Q saying thank you for any reason on any level whatsoever, even the reports submitted by Admiral Sisko and Ambassador Picard during their various encounters with Q never mentioned a Q saying thank you as she was within earshot of the Q talking to member of the Bremer family

Rachael came over to her mother. "Mom... you okay?" she asked softly.

"I'm okay baby." Torilla replied baby. "Q surprised me.... he said thanks."

Rather then overreact as she would have been expected, Rachael merely raised an eyebrow. "Maybe there is hope for Q getting along with us after all." she commented as she looked up at her mother.

Lee stood there watching everyone with his parents, even noticing what Q had done:"Interesting"
