Mission:
Mission 81 - Revenge
Location: USS Pegasus
Timeline: Following 'Target:Pegasus'
ON:
Mike looked at Pike and Vid-Lotilija and said, "Good luck", as they shimmered away.
He looked back at this crew, "Where is he?"
Alex looked at Bremer, "I have him on sensors and keeping track of him."
"Chief, plot an intercept course, as soon Pike and Vid-Lotilija are back inside the ship, go." Mike said.
Branson looked back at the Admiral, "Aye Sir, course plotted...and I'll make adjustments as he stops and jumps again."
Mike tapped his commbadge, "Pike, you have less than two minutes."
Lee tapped his comm:"Aye sir." He then turned and looked at Vid-Lotilija:"We have to haul butt."
"We have time to get to second location, may cause lot of damage, shall we?" She was ready to scream to transporter room on the nod.
Mike knew they the Pegasus would take damage...but right now he would destroy the Pegasus to capture the person behind the murders of his children. That said, he intended to keep his ship operational as long as possible.
"Chief Blackthorne, have your damage control teams standing by...we're expecting heavy damage in engineering and decks one through three." Mike said over the comm.
"Coleman, activate the forcefield around the warpcore." He knew he should shut the core down, just in case...but he couldn't let Westmoreland get away.
Coleman tapped a few commands and activated a level-10 forcefield around the warp core. "Level-10 forcefield active around the warp core and it is stable." Coleman said as he looked over his shoulder at the Admiral.
"Alex, K'Temoc, don't let the Starlighter out of our site!" Mike added.
Alex nodded, "Yes sir."
"Mike...I've confirmed, K'Wor is aboard that ship...I have his lifesign, but he's too far away for transport." K'Temoc added as he looked at his brother.
Mike's breathing got heavier, he walked over beside Harrison and tapped the communications channel, "Westmoreland...you can run...but I'm coming for you...you bastard!"
After a moment, a reply came in, "Then the game is afoot."
"This isn't a game, you murdered my children..."
"And you killed my brother as well as my wife and child!" Westmoreland replied angrily.
"Your brother's death was an accident, he pulled the trigger himself...as for your wife..."
Westmoreland cut Mike off, "My wife and unborn son also died because of you!"
Mike looked around, confused. He never knew Jon Westmoreland had a wife, much less an unborn child...and he certainly never killed them. He didn't know what to say, he was caught off guard by the accusation...
"I'll be in touch." Westmoreland added, then closed the comm.
Aboard Westmoreland's modified Peregrine class raider, K'Wor was sitting on the deck in aft compartment. He could hear Westmoreland's convocation with his father and that was the first he'd heard about the fate of his younger half-brother and half-sister. He tried to free his hands, but the restraints were too tight. He glared up at Westmoreland as the Starlighter made another warp jump.
K'Wor wanted to speak, but his mouth was gagged. He grunted and tried to standup, but one of the other three people aboard the Starlighter stood up, walked over to him, backhanded K'Wor across the face then shoved him back into the floor.
K'Wor shook his head and grunted, 'I will kill you if you touch me again'. Westmoreland got up from the pilot's seat and walked back to K'Wor. He knelt down in front of him and calmly said, "I never meant for your brother and sister to die. I'm not the monster your father has made me out to be. My raid on your runabout was to capture either you or your step-mother...my fight it with your father, not innocent kids."
Of course, K'Wor didn't believe a word of it, but something Westmoreland said gave him pause. He KNEW about the family vacation, and KNEW the Admiral wouldn't be aboard the Runabout...but how did he know? If he could only get his hands free...
"For now, I suggest you sit there, shut up, and wait." Westmoreland stood back up and walked back to his seat.
K'Wor's blood was boiling. His emotions were filled with anger, hate, and sorrow...and he was helpless to do anything about it.
"Holly, reroute power structural integrity for all areas close to the bomb sights, take power from holodecks, shields, weapons, anything you need."
"You got it Admiral." Her hands flew over her board as she readjusted the ship's power to focus on keeping her together. The last thing that she wanted to do would be responsible for not holding up her end of this rather pricy bargain.
Mike tapped his commbadge, "Pike, report? You have less than fifteen seconds left!"
"We have one more left sir and then we are done." Lee headed for the last one.
Just as he reached the last one it exploded for some reason, the shock wave sending Lee flying back several feet.
Vid-Lotilija was further from the explosive, but not far enough to stay attached to hull and shockwave hauled her toward the edge and away from the ship. All she could do was call for help, tapping her commbadge she called. "Transporter room, get us in. My suit is leaking and Captain Pike was much closer to the explosives." She thought of the interference explosion may cause, but sincerely hoped shockwave hauled them both far enough to be detectable.
The Pegasus shook from the explosion, and on the Bridge, everyone stumbled for a moment as they watched Pike and Vid-Lotilija floating away.
Alex practically jumped out of her skin. She held her breathe as she watched helplessly.
"Holly, beam them directly to Sickbay!" Mike said as his eyes widened. While Lee and Vid-Lotilija were being beamed aboard, Mike turned to Harrison, "Go."
Alex didn't argue at all. She quickly got up and walked towards the lift.
He knew Alex would want to make sure Lee was okay and he watched her leave the Bridge, heading for Sickbay.
"Roebuck, take over Tactical." Mike ordered as he looked over to Coleman at the Bridge Engineering Station.
Coleman worked the engineering console, trying to help Gillo out a little bit by helping to reroute some of the power. Coleman said over to Gillo and Bremer, "You've got structural integrity up to 200 percent. I might be able to squeeze a little bit more out if you'd need it, but I don't know how much more."
"Can you control Engineering functions from here?" He asked Coleman.
"Yes sir, I've got it rerouted to this station, sir." Coleman said, working to make sure that everything was working alright.
"Holly, get power rerouted to the emergency forcefields, we'll seal the hull breaches so we can get repair teams down there." Bremer added.
"Rerouting power now Admiral." She stopped what she was doing and started punching in new codes for the computer to calculate and started shutting down areas that weren't needed that she didn't get to the first time and pulling power from where she could.
Mike walked over to Intel and glanced at the sensors for a moment, then tapped his Commbadge, "Bremer to Hurd, did you get everyone off those decks before the explosion?"
Amongst the chaos, Hurd heard his combadge chime. He tapped it, and said in a heavy tone, ''Yes sir, everyone was out, however, there were several that were severely injured.'' Pausing for a moment, he added, ''Sir, what are my current order's Sir?''
"Secure the area, Damage Control teams are the only people allowed in the area at this time." Mike replied.
David replied ''Aye sir, and closed the comlink. Shouting orders, he stationed the Marines present at points along the Damanged area, so as to allow only Damage Control personell acess.
In Sickbay, Janice watched as several Engineers and Marines were brought in, mostly with bumps and bruises from being tossed around during the explosion as well as burns from exploding panels and conduits.
Marine Captain Lennox carried in Lieutenant JG Lee, she was uncontentious with burns and a rather large bruise on her head. Gunnery Sergent Agtx carried in another Engineer who had burns on his face, while Gunnery Sergent Ermy helped Corporal Schmidt limp in after a door had been blown out and landed on his leg.
Even the new Mark V EMH, an upgraded version of the old Mark I, was activated. "Please state the nature of the medical emergency...oh, never mind, another explosion. Never would of expected that aboard THIS ship." He said as he walked over to one of the wounded crew members.
Saith's team had helped the Medical Staff arrange and retrieve equipment they might need. They had worked steadily, but when the ship rocked their eyes met and each and everyone of them knew it had begun.
The Security team moved out away from the medical beds and surgery units and nearer to the walls and doors, where they could help assist, direct traffic, and remove . . . well anything that needed removed. Saith stuck near Dr. Brislan, but she snuck a glance at Janet. She would have looked great except for the haunting pain reflected in her eyes. Saith looked back to the biobeds as people began coming in.
Alex was very upset and found herself crying again, something that she didn't do much of. She ran into Sickbay and looked around for Pike. She saw Brislan and hurriedly walked over to Brislan. Out of breathe, she blurted out, "Where is he?"
Finally the transporter beam materialized Lee and Vid-Lotilija into Sick bay. Lee was unconscious. Several medical personal ran over to him and started to remove the EVA suit.
Without a word Saith pointed in Captain Pikes direction. She paused to make sure the medical personnel were not blocked by her progress, but she moved towards Pike's position herself.
She knew he would get good care, so she headed to another officer that had been beamed in. After the triage, Saith assisted in moving the officer to the proper area, but she kept her eyes and ears open for progress with Pike.
As the medics removed the EVA suit, the face plate had been cracked in several places and there where a few burns on Lee's face. He was still unconscious as they worked on him.
Tressa looked up as Alex spoke.
"Captain Pike is being taken to ICU. Initial scans showed traumatic brain injury, severity currently unknown, and he has multiple burns that we are treating now. He was comatose when they transported him in, either from the concussion or from shock," the doctor said. "You will be able to see him after the dermal treatments but we will need to monitor him for neural damage."
Saith looked around for Captain Pike. She put a hand on Captain Harrison's shoulder as they both looked at the doctor.
Alex moved closer to Pike's position, watching as they worked on his burns. She kept inching closer. It worried her that he wasn't conscious. She took her eyes off him for a moment, looking at who else was in Sickbay. Alex locked eyes with Janice. She could see the anger in her eyes. Alex wanted to tell her how sorry she was for her loss and not to blame Bremer. Listening to bridge talk, she deduced that Westmoreland knew that Bremer was all about duty and honor and in fact, counted on it. Lee wasn't much different from Bremer.
Breaking eye contact, she closed her eyes as she turned towards Lee and Brislan with deep concern, then opened them. She observed the doctor for a minute longer, "Doctor, is he going to be okay?"
Tressa looked at Alex, holding her gaze as she collected her thoughts. Honesty was always best, but she tried to couch her words in the best possible way.
"He has had a major brain injury, and not for the first time," she began. "We have every reason to think that he will awaken, but it can take weeks for the brain to heal. Even then, there may be motor coordination or vision problems, memory loss, or difficulty speaking. Only time will tell, and we will need to test his motor and cognitive responses over the next several days to determine specific damage. I can message you when he is awake," she said.
Alex became agitated, "I'm not going anywhere. I'm waiting right here."
Vid-Lotilija was losing consciousness from the lack of air, but then felt the EVA suit taken off and the clean air entering her lungs. She opened her eyes seeing the doctor checking her vitals. She was tired from sheer amount of adrenaline the excitement of actions caused and just laid down resting while the doctor treated number of small wounds caused by the shrapnel from the explosion. One last scan and she was released to light duty. ‘Oh yea, definitely.’ Vid-Lotilija checked on Lee and returned to the Bridge.
Saith looked over at the sound of Captain Harrison's voice. She started across sickbay with every intention of backing up Alex if she needed it.
"You can wait in my office, the dermal treatment is going to take another half an hour or so," Tressa said. "I promise we'll do everything we can for him, and it will be a comfort to him to have you near when he awakens."
That wasn't the answer she wanted. She stood there for a moment then turned away from Brislan with a sigh. She understood the anger that Janice felt but she found herself not being angry at Bremer. She was angry with Westmoreland.
Alex walked past Janice's bed and then stopped in her tracks. She took a couple of steps back and looked at Janice, "I'm really sorry to hear about your children." She started to walk away but she needed to say something, "You know, I'm just as angry right now as you are but we should be angry at Westmoreland not your husband. I don't mean any disrespect but I believe that if your husband had gone with you, Westmoreland would have killed ALL of you without a second thought and that would've been a greater tragedy. You may feel differently but don't let this rip you and your husband apart because you have Becca and Christopher who's going to need the both of you to get through this." Tears filled her eyes, "I'm sorry, I have no right. Forgive me." With that, she went to Brislan's office until she could see Lee.
Back on the Bridge, K'Temoc spoke up from Strategic Ops. "I'm loosing contact with the Starlighter, sensor resolution seems to have been affected from the explosion."
Mike looked over to Coleman, "Can we go to warp?"
Coleman worked vigorously to try and make sure that the ship could sustain a warp flight. After a few seconds, he looked his shoulder at Bremer, saying, "I can give you Warp 6, but nothing more that wouldn't cause anymore damage to the structure of the ship."
Holly caught the comment Coleman made to Bremer and piped in from operations, "Would giving you some more power help the ship get to a higher warp Commander? If so, I've not touched vital systems yet for power restructuring to keep the ship in one peace. If it would be helpful we could get more power to either the structural fields or the drive itself, but it would bring certain critical systems down to emergency power only."
Hearing the conversation, David said, '' I would suggest shutting down all Marine Facilities, and routing the power from there, as well as the Marine Starfighters, to where it is needed, sir''
Coleman heard that and looked over at Gillo and Hurd, saying "Alright, with your permission Colonel, I'd like to shut them down and get them to the Structural Integrity Fields. Gillo, I could use some help getting the power transferred and Colonel, I could use your help really quick too."
Mike listened to Gillo and Coleman work out the power allocations, then he turned to his trusted Flight Controller. "Chief Banson, Warp Seven." He walked down the ramp and took a seat in the 'big chair'. "I'm coming for you, you son of a bitch!"
Vid-Lotilija arrived on the Bridge and released replacement officer. Hearing Bremer's words she trembled, it was obvious she missed something during her adventure.
