VAdm T'Lar talked to various people as she waited for LaForge to get back to her. After talking to a few of them, she had a gut feeling that something wasn't right.
"Look, I don't know where Riggs got his information but everything is quiet along the Neutral Zone. There are no Warbirds or no evidence of redeployment of any kind. It's very calm here." Archer stated.
"Could they be cloaked?"
"No, with thirty Warbirds, there's no way that we couldn't detect them." Gilmore replied.
"That's what I thought. Thank you for your help. Keep your eyes and ears open any way...just in case."
Deela sat back in her chair and mulled the information over in her head. LaForge finally reported in, "Vice Admiral T'Lar, we have arrived at the Neutral Zone. There is nothing here, nothing at all. Obviously, the intelligence reports were fabricated." Geordi reported over subspace.
"I agree. I just hope that Admiral Riggs isn't in on this and that he is just a dupe in all of this."
"Let's hope." He paused for a moment, "How is Bremer doing?" Geordi asked.
"Not too good. He's trying to put on a good front but I know better."
LaForge nodded, "Understandable. Have you heard anything yet?"
"Not yet. I'm sure as soon as there is anything to tell, he'll contact me. I'd better get going here. I have a bone to pick with someone."
LaForge signed off. This next call would be very interesting. She put in a call to Admiral Riggs.
Riggs' face appeared on the screen. He seemed a little off, "Vice Admiral T'Lar, what do you need? My time is short."
Keeping a straight face with little emotion, "I will make this quick. You said that Starfleet intelligence reported that the Romulans have deployed an additional thirty Warbirds along the Neutral Zone. We sent the Challenger to the border and LaForge reports that there are no signs of that at all. The information you received, did you even bother to investigate it further to see if the information was reliable before you accused Admiral Tomalak of such a thing?"
Riggs grew a bit angry, "I don't think I like your tone. What are you getting at?"
She kept her cool, "I'm just asking if you checked out the information thoroughly before presenting it to Bremer and Tomalak. I believe that the information was fabricated. You demanded that Bremer be there at the meeting and take care of the situation. I could have done it myself. Why Bremer?"
"The information was from a reliable source. If I didn't know better, I'd think that you were accusing me of something." He looked at her with a suspicious eye.
"Look, I'm just trying to make sense of it all. Someone knew that Bremer was going on vacation with his family. I think whoever it is, had to know Bremer very well and that he wouldn't go right away if it was asked of him. And then there is the attack on Harry Kim and Paul MacLeod and Slater's supposed suicide. Someone targeted them." She could sense that Riggs was holding back and that he was very agitated.
Before she could continue the conversation, someone interrupted them and handed her a PADD, "My apologies but it's urgent." He walked out. She read it and then looked up from the PADD at Riggs , "Admiral Riggs. Looks like we know who is behind everything. It's Westmoreland."
Deela felt his anxiety go up, "Look. If you think that I am involved in this whole mess, then you go through through the proper chain of command. I believe that we are done here." The transmission broke off.
Deela wasn't sure how much of it he was involved in or if he was just a pawn in all of this. She did know that the name Westmoreland made Riggs squirm. "Oh, don't worry, there will be an inquiry."
