2,020 words; about a 10 minute read

Mission: Mission 81 - Revenge
Timeline: After the Christmas party, before the shuttle attack

Saith sat in her quarters thinking about the evening. It certainly did not turn out the way she had planned. She ran it over in her head again. She was uncomfortable at the party, but danced with Andy anyway. It was nice.

Then she had run into Maal and had dinner with him, which was nicer until Andy showed up. Not that there is anything against Andy, but things changed and Maal had left abruptly. Then she had a nice evening with Andy. Now she was home, alone and more than a little tipsy.

She replayed the conversations of Maal and Andy and suddenly the light in her mind went off. "Oh," she said as realization dawned. Being as young as she was, and not having prior experience in such things Saith wondered if she was on the right path.

Andy had certainly been clear about his intentions, but Maal not so much. Concerned that she was mistaken (and more than a little tipsy) she decided she should just ask him.

"Computer locate Sgt. Maal." She waited for the information. Turning she headed for the door, she listed sideways for a moment, righted herself and continued down the corridor.

Maal was in his quarters pissed off, he had a very nice dinner with Saith then General Jones had come and interrupted the dinner. He was starting to like her and thought that Saith was very pretty. He had thought was best to leave and return to his quarters so there would be no fighting. Maal stood there shirt less doing some martial art exercises to blow some steam off.

Saith slowly made her way to Maal's quarters. She was feeling the alcohol she had drank earlier and paused, putting a hand up to steady herself, not realizing she was leaning on the door.

Just then the door chime rang to his quarters, he turned with a confused look on his face wondering who it could be at this hour. Maal walked over to the panel and keyed in the code to un lock and open the door.

As the door slid open Saith fell forward, her hand preceding the rest of her body. As she steadied herself, she realized her hand was planted solidly on Maal's chest. "Oh," she said said softly as she looked up into his face.

Maal looked down at her and saw it was Saith and wondered why she was here, he held her up: "What are you doing here?"

"I need to talk to you," she said. Realizing her hand was still on his chest she reluctantly pulled it away. "I didn't mean to disturb you." She paused and frowned then laughed, "well, actually I probably did given the hour and place."

Maal shook his head and stepped to the side to let her in:"No you didn't disturb me, come in."

"Thanks."

Maal stepped inside to let the door close:"Can I get you anything?"

Again she tilted sideways. She decided she needed to sit down so she headed for the couch. "um, coffee I think."

He went over and got 2 coffees from the replicator and handed one to her then sat down at his desk "So what is it you want to talk to me about?"

She paused. She had not really thought this through, what was she going to say. Her eyes went up as if she was searching her brain for something.

"Um, I " she paused and blushed. "I was just wondering. . . "

She looked around wishing she had not had so much to drink this evening. She looked back at Maal, sipping her coffee. It wash hot an harsh. Just what she needed.

"Andy, was very clear about what he was doing this evening. I was just wondering if. . . "she blew her breath out. "I was just wondering if you would maybe, perhaps, um," she bit the inside of her cheek, "if you had any thoughts about, um, how should I put this. . ." her face was completely flushed and she realized he would probably think she was an idiot, but she was already too deep into it.

She sighed heavily, "I wanted to know if you were interested in having dinner with me again sometime; if you might be interested in spending time together, or if I have completely misread the situation. It will determine what I do about Andy." She sat her face blazing in a greenish tinge and not really looking at Maal.

Maal sat there listening to her and then he seen her blush and thought she looked kinda cute that way. He then sat down his coffee and stood up, then walked over to her "I would love to have dinner with you again."

"Oh good," she said softly. She looked at the floor wondering what she should say next.

Maal then lifted her chin up gently with his hand and leaned down and planted a kiss fully on her lips.

Saith felt like she couldn't breathe. When Maal's lips left hers she realized her eyes were closed. She opened them and looked right into his eyes.

"Is that clear enough for you?" He smiled.

She smiled and nodded, still not sure she could speak. Her mind raced. What should she do about Andy? She liked him also, but in different ways and for different reasons.

It ran through her mind she should tell Maal that she had never been in a relationship, she wasn't sure how to manage Andy or Maal, and was not ever very good at relationships in general. Instead she smiled again.

Saith subconsciously bit her lip and stood up to match Maals height better. She leaned up to kiss him again.

Maal reached down and put his arms around Saith and kissed her again this time he lifted her up off the ground for a minute as they kissed.

Saith reached up and put her arms around Maal. She kissed him firmly in return.

He then put her back down and broke from the kiss but still had his arms around her "So would you like to start a relationship with me?"

"Yes, I think so, but" she paused again embarassed. She bit her lip. Thinking about how to say what she wanted to say she looked in his eyes, "I feel like I should be honest with you and let you know that I have no experience in having a relationship," she paused again.

"And, I can't say Andy is completely out of the picture either. I don't feel about him like I feel about you, but I do like him, and we have a lot in common." Her words fell off as she saw a look cross Maal's face. She did not want to end this 'relationship' before it started, but she didn't know how to avoid the problem.

Maal looked at her when she said that "So you're saying after we kissed twice and you agreed to wanting to start a relationship with me that you also like Andy and want to date him to or something?"

"no!" Saith said her eyes filling with tears, "I knew I would say this wrong." She swallowed hard and looked Maal in the eyes. I am just saying I don't know if he will give up and I don't want to hurt him, and I don't know how to do this. . . .thing."

He folded his massive arms across his bare chest:"So then how do you actually feel about me?"

"I am not completely sure HOW I feel about you." She bit her lip again. "I know that I like you, and I like being with you, and I desire you." Her face flushed. "But I haven't ever experienced this before so I am flying blind. I haven't ever really loved anyone before, but I think I love you, and before you ask, yes that includes my family. Both of my families." she finished softly.

Maal sighed:"It's ok haven't had a ton of experience myself with relationships. Come here" He held out his hand for her.

Saith took his hand and smiled at him. With her other hand she wiped the tears out of her eyes. She was trembling slightly with fear, and excitement.

He then lead her over to his desk chair and sat down then pulled her onto his lap "You'll just have to tell Andy that you only want to be friends and if he has a problem after that then we'll deal with it."

She sat softly and leaned into his chest. She smiled and nodded, “I know, but that doesn’t mean he will do so and I am not sure I can just easily 'deal with it' as you say. If he was someone I could just kick their ass it would be different, but he isn’t and I can’t.”

Maal ran a hand across her cheek "So you think that you love me huh?"

Saith chuckled lightly, “I think so,” she sobered then and added “but I wasn’t kidding about my families. My real family betrayed me and everyone else more than once. My new family, the humans that adopted me I always held at a distance and so I am only guessing that this new thing, this new feeling, is love.” She smiled again “but if I like you, want to be with you, and think about you when you aren’t there, it must be love, mustn’t it?”

Maal looked at her and smiled his hand still on her cheek "I think it must be. Sorry that your family betrayed you. And don't worry my family or the Pike family, they won't betray you."

Saith's brow creased "I am sure you probably believe that, and it is probably your experience." She paused, "I on the other hand have heard it repeatedly and never actually experienced it."

She gazed at him thoughtfully for a moment. "I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt, just as I have Captain Pike. I like him, he is a good commanding officer. And he thinks highly of you, so you must have something going for you." She smiled wickedly to let him know she was teasing him.

He then sipped at his coffee and leaned back in his chair:"So would you like to stay the night here with me in my quarters?"

Saith did not answer right away. There were two ways to look at the question; first, was it too soon? When she came here she wasn't even sure they were friends. And she probably should talk to the doctor before being too intimate with Maal. On the other hand, she did want to stay, and after all wasn't that why she was here?

Making a perhaps rash decision she smiled at Maal and nodded.

He chuckled a little:"Don't sound so excited there about staying the night with me."

She laughed softly, “it isn’t that. There is just a lot to consider in such a large step, especially since I wasn’t sure we were even good friends when I arrived, and I haven’t . . .” she let that sentence die without finishing.

Maal then looked up at her into her eyes:" jIH muSHa' SoH"
(I love you)

She looked at him puzzled. “I don’t know what that means.”

He smiled at her:"It means I love you in Klingon."

“Ah, I see.” She smiled and leaned her face in close to his. “I think that is some Klingon I could get used to hearing.” She kissed him lightly then added, “I-jol au; that is I love you in Rihan. I guess you realize that I am Rihanna not Vulcan.”

He kissed her back then reached back to start un clipping the braids from her hair:"Yes my love I know your not Vulcan and that doesn't matter to me."

She smiled.

"Would you like me to teach you how to speak Klingon?"

Saith thought for moment, then smiled "not right now." She leaned in to kiss him her free hair falling forward around their faces.
