Mission: Mission 80 - Outpost
Location: Holodeck 1
Timeline: Following Part 2

ON: (con't)

K’Temoc had been talking to his niece when he noticed everyone turning to see the newest person to walk in was, and to his surprise it was the one person he figured wouldn't attend. Ramata’tar. The big Jem Hadar actually looked to be nervous as he slowly walked in and looked around. Ramata’tar spotted Admiral Bremer and walked toward him, everyone watching him walk through.

K’Temoc excused himself from Becca, and walked toward Ramata’tar as the Jem Hadar approaching Mike.

“Admiral, First Ramata’tar reporting for duty.”

Mike had been watching the Jem Hadar walk up, and like everyone else he was surprised to see him here.

“At ease, this isn't a required duty station, it’s a party.” Mike replied.

“Party? Jem Hadar do not eat, do not dance…”

Mike cut Ramata’tar off, “It’s a social function. A time to talk to your fellow crewmembers, get to know each other better, and relax. Eating and dancing are not required.” He smiled, trying to put the everyone at ease.

“I know something that might help.” K’Temoc said. “Computer, Earth Christmas music, performed by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Perry Como.”

A moment later, Bing Crosby’s voice filled the room as ‘White Christmas’ started playing. Several people smiled and relaxed almost immediately.

Once again Holly found herself in the middle of a human tradition to celebrate the transition of one season to the next. She was of course not going to be rude and not attend, so she dressed and prepared herself for the onslaught of emotions and thoughts she would have to go through to just be in a room full of people. It didn't take her long and she was there in Holodeck 1 taking in the sounds of the room and people in it. Wasn't long and she had to put up her mental shield to be able to find her own voice in the thoughts and emotions going around the room. She found a quite corner to settle into and to find her thoughts knowing that if someone wished to they could approach her still.

Coleman had just finished up with the Falcon and trying to make sure that it was fixed up and when he got back to his quarters, he found a communication from Admirals Bremer and T'Lar. He opened it and said there would be a party going on, the one that Captain K'Temoc had told him about and thus, he decided that it would be good to unwind from all the excitement that had happened lately.

Thus, Coleman took off his duty uniform and put something nice on and headed down to Holodeck One. He pressed the control on the Holodeck control panel and it said, "Enter when ready." Coleman proceeded to the door and entered and saw quite a few people in the Holodeck, mingling and he could hear some old style music. He couldn't quite put his finger on it for a moment until it hit him and he recognized it as old Earth style Christmas music and he couldn't help but smile. He walked over to Admiral Bremer and T'Lar and said, "Hello Admirals, I hope that I'm not interrupting something."

T'Lar smiled at Coleman, "No, not all."

"Mister Coleman, good to see you could make it. How's the Falcon, she going to pull through?" Mike asked.

Coleman smiled as he said, "I think she'll pull through with a little bit of TLC. I think a few days and our teams will have it up and running like new."

"That is good news." Deela noticed that he didn't have a drink, "You know, we have drinks and food if you're interested."

He smiled before continuing, "Thank you. I think I'll go grab a little something. I'll bid you two goodbye for now." He gave a little smile and curt nod to the admirals before moving to get some refreshments.

After David had finished his drink, he ordered another one, and turned to survey the crowd. There were a lot of faces he did know, but even more that he did not. Taking a sip of his new beverage, he silently wished someone would talk to him.

R'nard went and got himself some punch and mingled with the crowd. He didn't altogether understand this holiday, which seemed to celebrate the changing of the season. It was about a child being born, being adored by shepherds and mages.

And the way it was celebrated confused him even more. They killed a tree, decorated it and then sang to it about a horned animal with a red nose. Human customs were a mystery to be sure.

He was listening to the song "White Christmas" which he hadn't heard before. Tralazar winters were quite severe, and this was a song about looking forward to winter weather.

He didn't understand it, but the festival was a merry one to be sure, so he went along with it, and the festive spirit that seemed to permeate the holodeck.

"Aunt Tressa, look at the tree!" a boy by the door said loudly. Several people chuckled.

"Xavier," Tressa said, taking him by the hand. She was wearing a green velvet dress trimmed in gold, and a girl in a red dress was close by her side. The children noticed some classmates by an ornate stone fountain.

"Can I go play with Kyle?" the boy asked, as he started to pull away.

"Yes, and no running," she said. A second later he was gone, but Kaylee stayed by her aunt's side. The girl smiled and waved to the Tralazar when she saw him by the tree.

"Good evening, gentlemen," Tressa said as they approached R'nard and Hurd. "Is that a holiday drink?"

"I guess so." said R'nard. "I am not familiar with this festival, but it was serrved on the table."

"It is an interesting event, a combination of old customs. On Earth it began as a winter festival celebrating the solstice. The tree, lights, and feasting are very old customs," Tressa said, pouring glasses of punch for herself and Kaylee. "The children were learning about it today in class."

"We made cookies too!" the girl added with a grin.

Mike watched his younger children, Marc, Emmaline, and Christopher playing with some of the other children. The twins, Emma and Marc are twelve now, but were trying to act 'grown up'. Christopher on the other hand, the two year old was running around giggling. Mike smiled as they played, he really appreciated times like this, and even felt guilty he'd missed so much of this children's early years. He hoped 2389 would bring more joy and happiness to his family and crew.

Andy arrived at the party and found a lot of familiar faces, he loved to be here and someway it felt like being on his house at the family vineyards, he truly missed his Twin brother and was certainly he would have laughed at the occasion...

He went to the bar and ordered a glass of "Chateau Du Jones" Cabernet Sauvignon

Saith stood in the open door for a moment and took in the scene before her. She and Lieutenant Vid-Lotijilia were late; everyone else seemed to be here. She cast a small smile at the Lieutenant, “well, we’re here.”

No one on the crew had seen Saith’s hair down and there was a lot to take in. It fell in waves down to her ankles. The last foot or so was colored a dark green, which happened to match her long gown. She had her hair pulled back with silver pins, showing the lovely curve of her pointed ears. The gown itself was tight fitted at the bodice and down through the hips. The bottom of the skirt and the sleeves flowed loosely. She had on high heels which added to her already considerable height.

She suddenly felt very self-conscious and glanced at the lieutenant, she wondered if she was nervous at all. She certainly did not appear to be. Saith smiled in Captain Pike’s direction and headed for the refreshment table. “I’d kill for a Romulan Ale, but barring that,” she knew with the fall of the Empire it was all impossible to get, “I will have whatever you think is closest,” she told the man providing drinks at the bar.

It was only then she remembered that she was supposed to thank the host. Human manners were not something she remembered easily in situations like this. She looked around the room for Admiral T'Lar. When she saw her, Saith took a sip of her drink and headed towards her. “Admiral, thank you for inviting me to your party. It is lovely.”

"You're welcome um..." Deela turned towards the voice, "Oh sorry, I almost didn't recognize you. Are you enjoying yourself?"

"Um, yes; although I have just arrived. A castle? I like it, I really do like the setting very much." She smiled. She stood awkwardly for a moment, then excused herself and headed back to a far corner. She was unsure why she had come, but here she was, once again part of but not a part of. She shook that thought out of her head and smiled at someone she thought looked familiar but she couldn't place a name.

Vid-Lotilija watched the room. It was looking so familiar and at the same time so alien and distant. She didn't remember being a part of this type of festivity and felt very unusual and unsuited. When her companion left, she kept staying at the entrance almost frozen.

At that moment, Bing Crosby's song ended and another began. It was Jose Feliciano's song "Feliz Navidad," a peppy song that R'nard smiled at.

The door opened and in walked Lt Commander Torilla Yamaguchi and her daughter who looked like an almost mirror copy of her mother except with blue eyes rather then her mothers brown and a lighter skin tone, from her father. "So Mom... I should cause mayhem here?" Racheal inquired with a good natured smile.

"Racheal.. you make my head hurt."

"Good. Anyway Mom... have fun." and with that the twelve year old disappeared into the crowd with the grace of a practiced Special Forces trooper as Torilla sighed, "I need a vacation." She muttered aloud as she noticed a few people looking at her. She made her way over to the large food table and she smiled upon seeing the selection of food and drink located here. "Is this food real and not replicated?"

Deela heard the question asked. She walked towards Torilla, "Most of it is real. Only a few things are replicated. Enjoy the food." With that, Deela walked away. She requested a slow song. Vincent joined her. When the song played "Every Time It Snows," Vincent took her hand and led her to the dance floor and started slow dancing.

Yamaguchi smiled as she realized how much she had missed real food, she lifted a small plate and began helping herself to various items as she snacked on the food, she had nobody to dance with as her husband was over a hundred light years away and she found herself missing his company.

Lee smiled and turned towards Alex then held out his hand:"May I have this dance my dear?"

"I would love to." She took Lee's hand.

Lee lead Alex to the dance floor and held her close as they danced. Paul saw them dancing and it made him smile.

Andrew spent the evening mixing and mingling with most people in the room. He didn't strike up any great conversations, but just enjoyed the atmosphere and relaxed.

Jonathan Roebuck had said a few hellos, but mainly stood over to the side and watched. He held a cup of punch, and took an occasional sip, but he mainly observed.

He watched Commander Lokran the most. He's never met a Tralazar before, and as his new commanding officer he wanted to get some kind of feel for the person he'd be reporting too.

However, Roebuck wasn't much of a 'mingler'. He didn't have a problem with social settings or parties, but he wasn't one to engage in idle chat and 'small talk', especially with people he didn't know.

Roebuck did take the time to speak with Admiral Bremer and his wife, as well as meet Captain K'Temoc and Acting Ensign K'Wor just before he had to leave for his duty shift.

He also watched Ramata'tar. Jonathan wasn't comfortable having a Jem Hadar around. He'd seen what those killers could and did do during the Dominion War. He decided to keep a close eye on him.

Old habits die hard, and Saith ended up doing what she always did when uncomfortable. She pulled back, in upon herself. Physically she found herself in the darkest, uninhabited part of the room, alone. She watched the people as they mingled, talking, dancing, and laughing. She matched people up into their pairs, or family groups; taking in who knew whom and how well.

She was momentarily caught off guard by her moist eyes, she turned to the wall and wiped them, then resolutely turned back to watch the crowd. "you should not have come," she told herself sternly, yet she knew she wanted to be here. Somehow, for some reason, she wanted to be part of for once instead of ever the outsider. Her cynicism kicked in, "you are the outsider Saith, always have been, always will be." She kicked backwards her foot making contact with the "stone wall" of the castle.

Lee had made his way around himself chatting with a few people here and there. He then spotted Saith and could sense something was bothering her so he walked over to her.

"Hello Saith"

"Captain" she acknowledged.

He gave her a smile:"So are you enjoying yourself?"

"uh," she paused, "sure. I am." Hiding in the dark, she thought to herself. Instead of saying anything else she nodded towards Alex, "She is beautiful. You two look good together." She tried to throw the conversation away from herself.

Lee nodded:"Thanks. Yes she is one beautiful woman. So is there anything bothering you Saith? And it's Lee since we're off duty."

“Yes, but I don’t know what,” Saith looked at him, “I was just fine, even maybe enjoying myself . . . maybe . . . and then suddenly I wasn’t.” Her brow wrinkled in confusion. “I don’t even know what happened.” She glanced around the room.
“I think maybe I should go, but,” she paused again unsure. She looked at Lee and then looked down, “I almost feel . . . afraid,” she said quietly, “afraid to move from the darkness.” She looked back up at Lee and continued “it is strange and makes no sense to me, Lee. Maybe I am just insane; maybe I am agoraphobic and did not know it.” She shrugged, “I don’t even know what is wrong, or what went wrong, or what happened, or who I saw, or what! I was fine when I came in . . . ” Saith said frustrated.

She smiled at Lee, “You are probably the closest thing I have to a friend, Lee and here I am keeping you from the party and your beautiful wife-to-be. Go back to her, I will be alright.” It was a little strange to use his name instead of his rank, and Saith tried to think if she had ever used anyone’s name before, other than her family of course.

Andy aproached to saith and Pike and said "Ensign would you care to dance with me?"

Her first impulse was to say 'no,' but she realized it might be just what she needed. It would also force Pike to go back to everyone else. So instead she nodded, "Sure." She gave a grim smile to Lee and set her drink down, heading for the dance floor.
