Mission:
Episode 113 - No One Left Behind
Location: Various Ships
Timeline: MD3 - 0400hrs
ON:
It was early in the day, but it was time for action. The ships from Starbase 400 had dropped out of warp just outside the Dewa system, and outside of the Romulans' sensor range.
Pegasus, Bridge
"I've got nothing at this range because of the ambient radiation from Dewa, the star puts off too much gamma radiation for clear scans. Then there's the radiation on Dewa II itself. We have to get closer." Draven said from Intel.
"We can't sit here too long, we stick out like a sore thumb to any passing ship Admiral." Conway added from Tactical.
"Short range comm." Mike said. After the computer beeped, Mike began. "Yorktown and Falcon, we need to known what we're walking into. I want your ships to cloak and scout. This is for information only. Yorktown you have Dewa II, Falcon you have the shipyard at Dewa VI."
"Understood." K'Temoc replied.
"Understood, setting a course now." Ezekiel said as he looked over to Sam and then at Dustin. He nodded to both men. No words were needed. Orders were pretty simple. Cloak and proceed to Dewa VI. Ezekiel left the channel open as the ship began to cloak, just in case the admiral had any last minute words.
"Verify the facility's status, number of ships under construction and any active vessels that might pose an issue." Mike replied to Bagwell.
"Understood Admiral, will get you that information as soon as possible. Bagwell out." Ezekiel said, knowing nothing more was needed to be said. He looked over to his first officer, as the scene fades.
After the comm closed, the Defiant class USS Yorktown-F cloaked and moved in on Dewa II.
Sitting at Ops Kah’lyn was wishing Croesus was with her, she wasn’t normally the worrying kind, but who knew what they’d come face to face with.
Ariana had noticed Kah’lyn’s change of emotion as she walked around to Ops to offer some support. “Don’t worry, Admiral Bremer wouldn’t have brought you along if he’d thought we’d end up in serious combat.
Yorktown, Bridge
"We're going to need to get below parking orbit altitude for a clear passive scan of the complex down there." K'Wor advised.
"I'm boosting power to the sensors and making adjustments for the radiation down there." Cole-Bremer added.
As the Yorktown passed over the planet, both Danielle and K'Wor shook their heads.
"The resolution is less than ideal." Danielle commented in disgust.
"I can tell there are people moving in their underground complex, but I can't tell if they are Human, Romulan, Klingon, or what. I can't tell how many either." K'Wor added.
"Why don't we use a probe to get closer?" Christopher asked innocently.
"A probe would have the same issues with sensor resolution we do." K'Wor replied.
K'Temoc leaned forward, "Not necessarily. If we use a Class-V. We can use their extended passive data-gathering systems, modify them for the radiation it'll encounter. It already has low observability coatings and hull materials to help keep it off the Romulan's sensors. It can be configured for planetary atmosphere entry and soft landings. We set it on a course that takes it over the facility to get some close up scans before it lands and transmits."
K'Wor nodded, "We can take it a step further. We can mark up the outer skin to make it look like it was left over from the war. If it is spotted they'll assume the planet's gravity just pulled it down."
K'Temoc nodded.
"I have one ready, sensors are reconfigured for this mission." Danielle added. "I'll also set a pre-programmed course to make it look like it's on a burn in with damaged thrusters attempting to compensate."
A few minutes later the probe launched. It made a slow erratic approach to Dewa II, passed over the Romulan base, then gently landed in a sandy area several kilometers beyond.
"Data incoming." Danielle said.
"Bingo! I'm picking up about seventy-five Romulans with a dozen Remans. I'm also picking up a few dozen Humans, Klingons, Vulcans, Betazoids, Andorians, Bajorians, Deltans, and others. They're compressed into two holdings areas, one on the northern side of the base, the other on the eastern side." K'Wor reported.
"Helm, take it back to the fleet so we can report in." K'Temoc ordered.
USS Buccaneer
As the fleet arrived in the Dewa system, Grian ordered a ship wide Yellow Alert status and requested all crew to adorn their side arms in the unlikely event of being boarded.
Down in engineering, The young Deezell Vox was in charge. Her team had collected and adorned their side arms and as an added precaution, the forcefield around the warp/slipstream core was activated.
USS ESSEX
The Essex along with the Luna, Falcon, Vanguard among others were going to Dewa VI but were waiting on the Falcon to get the information before proceeding. T'Lar observed her bridge crew as she impatiently waited. There were some young faces, including Ravenbroke at her Security station and Science Officer Sykes. She hoped they could handle what may come next.
Deela hoped too that things wouldn't go awry, "Admiral T'Lar to Sickbay. Dr. Blake, please make sure that Sickbay is ready just in case anyone needs medical care." She got a few looks from her crew.
Deela asked Captain Harrison to be her Executive Officer and she agreed. It was like old times. Deela whispered to Alex, "Thank you for joining me. I think the crew can handle this mission but I wanted someone more seasoned, just in case, if you know what I mean." Alex smiled, "They'll be fine."
She waited for word from the Falcon.
Diana was both scared and excited. Scared for obvious reasons, but also excited because she was part of something so big! "Calm down, Diana. Remember, you're in Starfleet, be professional," Diana took a deep breath to steady her nerves.
USS Endeavor-A, Bridge
Coleman was sitting in the chair reserved for the commanding officer of the Endeavor as he looked around the Bridge. The ship was barreling towards the Dewa system and Coleman knew that this ship, being one of the various science vessels attached to not only the Starbase, but the attachment of ships assigned to this mission.
Looking around at the people at various stations on the bridge, Coleman stood up as he knew they were about to come out of warp into potentially hostile territory. He took a deep breath in and said, "Okay, ladies and gentlemen, lets make sure that once we're out of warp, nothing surprises us and we can make sure the fleet gets the most information from our sensors. Mr. O'Riley, Ms. Vasha, what's our status?"
Tim nodded as he waited to bring the ship out of warp. "I am ready to run a full sensor sweep of the area and look for anything that could be out their currently. I would also advise caution as we come out of warp, we still don't know what's out there or even if this is a trap."
Coleman nodded with a small smile as he knew that all was going well. He knew this crew could get anything done and would. He took a seat back in his command chair and looked over at the seat typically kept for an XO. He thought back to Lieutenant Plumeri, who left several months prior. Coleman thought he would have enjoyed going into the fray and would have come up with a few good quips before going out of warp.
Coleman looked back at the main viewscreen as he awaited the slowing of the ship.
U.S.S. Luna
Lee had stepped off the turbo lift and headed for his command chair on the Luna "Report."
Isetal Zh'zyllehr who was at the helm spoke up "We have arrived at our destination sir."
USS Ark Royal
Xalanth licked his lips as he felt the ship shift out of warp. Dressed in his combat gear with his modified TR 110 slung over his shoulder the lizard eyes were fixed on the padd he was reading. The image of his unborn daughter started back at him filling his gut with worry. He had to stay alive for her. For all of his family.
USS Buccaneer - Main Engineering
Deezell, although doing her best in the circumstances, was feeling the pressure. But, she had to show confidence in herself and project it so those in her team felt at ease and had confidence in themselves. Despite this, she still felt like she had be thrown in at the deep end.
One of her team approached her. "Chief, all systems are running normally and essential protection systems have been enabled, especially around the warp and slipstream cores. "
"Great. Now we wait for orders from the bridge. Our main concern is, if we go into combat, to ensure the bridge has the weapons online, the shields as strong as they can be and the ability to reroute power to anywhere when needed. If we manage this, we can complete the mission and get back for some Risian Spiced Pudding." She said smiling.
"Absolutely chief. " the young team member replied. He then head back to his station. Deezell lent against a bulkhead as she watched the warp core pulse.
USS Falcon
Location: Ready Room
The USS Falcon was now preparing to leave the area, when he noticed that his first officer wanted to talk with him. So he asked her to join him in his ready room. As they got comfortable, he looked over to her and asked. "What's on your mind Sarah?" Ezekiel said trying to play coy. He knew what she wanted to say. He was trying to play into it. He was hoping deep down, she wanted to talk. Because he did, but his pride would not let him.
“That was what I was going to ask you.” Sarah smiled. “You seem a bit distracted. Is it having new crew that bothers you?” She knew it was Anna but felt she should lead up to it.
"Perhaps a little." Ezekiel said knowing that he was distracted, he had a feeling that she was holding back but she really wanted to talk about with a grin on his face he walked over to the couch and is ready room and motion for Sarah to follow him. As they both sat down he asked, "you want to know how long I'm doing now that Anna's been reassigned to the station, no doubt you want to make sure that I am processing as well because you're concerned for the crew am I right?"
“Yes.” Sarah nodded. “I know it will be an adjustment but my priority is making certain you are processing this well so things go well for all of us.”
"Must be a tough spot for you to be in." Ezekiel said, trying to see this from her perspective. Being out of his own mind, allowed him not to wallow on his own short comings.
“It would be if you weren’t willing to talk to me.” Sarah explained. “There is nothing worse than a captain who closes himself off to those around him.”
"It's easier to keep things to oneself, it does not show weakness and vulnerability." Ezekiel said, but he knew she was right.
“That is our human nature.” Sarah agreed. “But I believe we have a better crew when they see that we have weaknesses or even an issue once in a while. They don’t tend to put us on a pedestal that way.”
"I dont want to fail them, and I am sure you don't as well." Ezekiel said in confidence to her. He knew of all people, that she would be able to relate to his dilemma. She was the first officer.
“Agreed.” Sarah nodded seriously. “That is something I am concerned with. But at the same time we do the best we can.”
"How are you handling the crew rotation?" Ezekiel asked. Anna was not the only officer to be re assigned. There was several junior officers re assigned as well. He knew that Sarah and Anna talked from time to time. But he was curious if she was close to any of the junior officers as well.
“I am having dinner with the new officers tonight.” Sarah informed him. “I haven’t really had a chance to sit down with them so I made plans for tonight.”
"Do they know it?" Ezekiel asked, knowing if he was knew, that the idea of having dinner with the XO would frighten him.
“Not yet.” Sarah grinned. “They would be distracted. They will hear just before the end of shift.”
"So you're going to give him no time to prepare, let me know how that works out." Ezekiel said no one that was going to be a little trying on the new officers.
“They should be prepared for anything.” Sarah said with a smile. “It’s not a firing squad.”
"They are Ensigns, I remember feeling like I was facing a fire squad." Ezekiel pointed out.
Sarah grinned. “I went to the restroom and threw up before my first lunch with the first officer.”
"Hopefully not all over your uniform?" Ezekiel asked, expecting her to say yes. But hoping she said no.
“No.” Sarah shook her head. “That is why I went to the bathroom.” She laughed then. “That would have made it worse.”
"Well look at you, I think you turned out fine." Ezekiel said, as he went on to say. "Have you noticed most of the bridge crew is silent." Ezekiel pointed out to Sarah. Now it was his turn to pick on them. They can not be afraid to speak up.
“I have indeed.” Sarah nodded. “I believe they aren’t sure how to act with the new crew.”
"Then we should show them Number One. I know we can set a good example of them." Ezekiel pointed out to Sarah. He went on to ask. "Shall we proceed to Dewa VI we should be in orbit soon."
Sarah nodded her head as the scene starts to fade.
A SHORT TIME LATER ....
The USS Falcon was cloaked as she made her final approach to the planet. The ship and crew were operating as one. Ezekiel looked over to Sarah and then back at the main viewer. The earlier conversation they had, meant a lot to him. But at the moment they had a job to do.
"Mister Carrington, slow us down to 1/3 impluse power." Ezekiel called out, as he walked over to the helmsman station. He hovered over the helm, as he watched Sam input the reduction in speed. He could see from the main viewer a large structure coming up. They were to close for comfort. Well his comfort level.
Sam did as he was told, "Slowing to 1/3." He called out in a calm and collected tone. They were cloak, so no uncessary conversation was allowed. He knew that also meant keeping your tone at a reasonable level.
"Mister Reynolds, were to close for comfort be ready to take defensive measures. If I give the order." Ezekiel called out, thinking to himself, he had never been this close to a hostile installation before.
Ezekiel knew the technology existed to detect cloaking technology. And even though the USS Falcon had the latest technology, he knew not to take it for granted. They needed to be ready for anything.
Dustin was a little antsy, he did not like being this close. They were away from the safety of the fleet. "Aye Captain." Was all he said, but deep down he hoped they would be able to leave shortly.
"Mister Reynolds, get me some tactical scans of the area. I want to see everything in this area. Display on the main viewer, but please verbally call out any key features, that we should warn starfleet about." Ezekiel said, as he looked over to Dustin his chief of security.
Dustin started to scan the area. There was a lot of data starting to pour in. As requested he started to call out. "Four active docking stations. 3 completed warbirds, and one that looks mostly completed. Several more frames in early development." Dustin started to call out. He took a break before going on. "Most of the automated turrets seem to be offline, and under repair. A few workabee drones are tending to them." Dustin said, as he started to think of an escape vector incase things went sideways.
"Mister Reynolds, transmit this data back to the Yorktown." Ezekiel called out, as the scene starts to fade away.
Pegasus-C, Bridge
Mike looked over the data from the Yorktown and Falcon with Draven.
"That's more ships at Dewa VI than we were led to believe." Draven noted.
"And bigger." Mike added, "It was supposed to be small ships and fighters."
Mike looked over everything for a few more moments. "Conway, signal the Essex, tell Admiral T'Lar to proceed to Dewa VI as planned. Tell her to remain cloaked until the Pegasus decloaks after hailing the Romulans. Maintain Yellow Alert but do not fire or power up weapons unless they are fired upon."
Mike walked back over to the Captain's chair and took a seat.
