Mission: Mission 87 - Disaster
Location: Various, Relief Force Ships
Timeline: MD2 2245hrs, Following 'Plan B, Part 1'

ON:

USS Ark Royal, Bridge

The Operation Officer looked up from his station and said, "Commander Coleman, we're receiving signal from the Venator that the shuttle is ready to be launched. They're bringing all the shuttle systems online and should be launched within the next few minutes."

Coleman nodded and said, "Alright, have Lieuteuant Solomon and Captain L'Verrem signal when they've got the asteroid hollowed out and it's ready to be brought back to the region for our 'Plan B.'"

Shuttle

Takabe rechecked the payload of microtorps before going to the flight controls. "Um, Phoenix," Takabe found the use of call signs as identification a little unorthodox but she would try to go along, "You don't seem to be too concerned that one miscalculation and they'll be able to see our explosion from the surface of the planet?"

"I care more about not gettin' killed in a tin can," Phoenix snapped back.

Jack remained at the engineering station in the shuttle, keeping an eye on the power levels and sensors. With the extra backups on board to make sure that the shuttle could return to the Venator in one piece, he wanted to make sure it didn't overload itself to bits. Plus he was enjoying the banter between the others. "Ops has cleared us for launch," he reported.

"Out we go," Phoenix declared and without preamble, set impulse to full and blasted their way out with a big whoop. "You just make sure those torps don' explode Takabe. This thing goes up in flames, I promise ya I aint gonna be happy."

Jack looked over at both Takabe and Phoenix with a wry smile on his face. "Listen you two, I fully plan on enjoying some rest time after this mission, so I'll kindly ask that we don't get blown up and we return to the Venator in one piece," he quipped whilst checking the sensors and auxiliary systems. He was taking no chances on this mission.

Venator, Bridge

Archer watched the progress of the shuttle, nervously. He wished there was more he could do, but the mission was in their hands now...

Shuttlecraft Cockpit

A sensor readout on Jacks panel started beeping and he double-checked the readings before confirming his update to the others. "People, we're coming up on the target," he reported. "Bringing mission specific auxiliary systems online."

"We gonna be gettin' too close for your linkin' folks. So hold your panties," Phoenix said as she pushed to full impulse. "An' drop 'at bomb when we're in range while you're at it."

Venator

Archer nervously watched the shuttle’s progress on one of the monitors. They were close, almost too close. It was now or never...

Shuttle

"Fire now!" Phoenix barked out while she nearly did a full stop in order to make a tight turnabout before hitting the impulse to full again.

Jack typed in the commands into his console. "Torpedo away!" He confirmed as he tracked its course.

Takabe looked over the sensor readings. "All is going as planned. It looks like this might actually work."

"Only if we outrun that shockwave behind us," Phoenix added rather darkly.

"I've got a theory for that part of the plan!" Jack added as he began re-routing power from the on board auxiliary generators he'd fitted on board. Now he prayed one of his madcap plans would work again like they used to...

USS Venator

Archer watched the sensors as readings came in from the torpedo's impact. For a few moments, everything looked like it was going just as planned, but then an alarm sounded.

Archer tapped the comm, "Venator to shuttle, Phoenix get out of there, a gravimetric cascade is forming!"

Shuttle

"Never yell at me while I try ta fly crazy. I aint good at talkin' an' math at once," Phoenix warned as she quickly plotted a micro warp jump.

The effect was a violent jerk both in and out of warp. And the shuttle most assuredly did not like it, since some of the internal circuitry began to flame and smoke behind the pilot.

"Someone tell me we aint gonna die," Phoenix spoke rather sardonically as she began to move back toward the fleet.

"Not on my watch!" Jack retorted back as he grabbed an extinguisher and aimed it at the flames, putting them out on the spot. He checked the console and could see it had fire damage. He went back to his seat and re-routed the commands to a backup console. Jack ran a quick check on the sensors and the shuttlecraft and allowed a brief grin to form.

"Once again Phoenix, nice flying! The torpedo hit its mark. The Shuttle is ok, We're a little low on Shields and the Warp Engines are a bit unhappy with the micro jump but they'll get us back to the Venator," he explained, "Lieutenant, did it work?" Jack asked as he looked at Takabe.

Takabe carefully checked the sensors. "No readings of the singlet. It appears to be destroyed." She stated with a smile. "I'm pleased we are still here. When I went over the plan with the Vulcan Science Academy, they estimated a ninety seven point three percent chance the shuttle would be destroyed. Nice flying Phoenix." She told the pilot.

Jack sent a comm message to Lt Archer on the Venator and Commander Coleman on the Ark Royal, advising of the missions success.

USS Venator

Archer looked over at L'Verrem and thought he heard a quiet purr at the Caitian's tail swished. The shuttle crew did it, the backup plan had worked.

He tapped the comm button, "Venator to Ark Royal, Commander we have our 'Plan B'. Also, sensors are picking up two Starfleet ships along with two Federation relief vessels entering the system. Looks our job is over here."
