Engaging the Sydneys pt3

Posted on Tue Jun 12th, 2012 @ 9:12am by Vice Admiral James K`Temoc Bremer & Commodore Leon `Lee` Pike & Lieutenant Commander Robert Smith & Commodore Alexandra Harrison

751 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: USS Yorktown, Bridge
Timeline: Following 'Engaging the Sydneys pt2'

“Chief, back us off!” K’Temoc ordered, but it was too late. All three of the Sydney class runabouts suddenly exploded. The force shook the Yorktown, panels exploded, sparks, smoke, and vapor filled the air.

No matter how much she tried to brace for impact, it still knocked her out of her seat. She got back up and began to investigate what damage was done.

K’Temoc pulled himself up and looked at the view screen. The Starlighter was gone. “Damage report” he asked of the crew on the Bridge.

Harrison looked up at the screen as well and muttered under her breath, "Damn." She chimed in, "Sir, weapons are offline."

K'Temoc shook his head, "Try to reroute power, pull it from the replicators or other minor systems if you have to until repairs are made."

Harrison nodded, "I'm already on it sir."

After Pike and Smith dropped their guests off at the brig, and feeling the effects of the runabouts exploding; Smith bolted to Engineering; when he got there things were getting hectic. The close proximity of the explosions did some damage; but Smith wasn't sure how bad, or what happened.

He checked the readout, and realized that while vital systems were undamaged, several other important systems were damaged; some seriously.

"Engineering to bridge, what the hell happened?!"

K’Temoc replied to Smith’s inquiry while the rest of the Bridge crew was busy checking systems and working on repairs, “They had the Sydneys rigged with plasma charges, and remotely set them off from the Starlighter…I’ll explain that to you later.” He paused a moment, “Report.”

"Those explosions did a real number on us Captain. Warp engines are offline, the cloak is disabled, shields are down to 25%, weapons are offline and long range sensors are down."

Lee headed towards the bridge after feeling the explosion and slide into his seat at the helm, checking over all the systems. Sir, we're pretty much screwed out here with only impulse power and no shields and no weapons."

K’Temoc raised an eyebrow in an almost Vulcan manor, “Are you suggesting we return to the station?”

Lee shook his head:"No sir."

Harrison was getting tired of this pirates getting away with things and their hands being tied. Looking intensely at K'Temoc, "Sir, with all due respect, does this mean that we can finally go after them? Because if we can, I'm all for getting this ship repaired. If not, then we might as well run back to Starbase 400 with our tails between our legs and call it a day." She glanced over at Lee for a second and then back at K'Temoc.

Smith was listening in, as the channel to engineering was still open "Sir I'm all for chasing them down, but a lot of these systems are severely damaged, not to mention the hull is in rough shape. We're talking an ETR of 4-6 weeks, and that's with the services of a dry-dock. I can give you up to warp 3 in an hour, but shields will be a day's worth of repair and weapons....."

K’Temoc had no intention of giving him, and he knew the crew knew that too, “How long to repair weapons without going home?”

"Weapons without dry-dock will be at least 3 months repair." Smith said with reluctance

Lee glanced at Harrison for a second before looking towards K'Temoc:"Sir maybe it's time we head back to Star Base 400 and get repairs to the Yorktown done and maybe we could come back after them with another ship."

Harrison didn't care when they'd go after them as long as they did. Enough was enough. The pirates had too much freedom. She backed off and went back to her station to continue helping with repairs.

K’Temoc knew a tough decision had to be made. The Yorktown was his ship. He’d commanded her since her commissioning just after the end of the Dominion War. She’d faced down the Borg, Krazzle, Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, Pirates…and though it all he’d never taken serious damage. “Chief…set course for Starbase 400, best possible speed.”

The Captain let out a deep breath, and then stood. “We’re not done yet. Make what repairs you can. I’ll be in my ready room…I need to make a report to the Admiral. You have the Bridge Alex.”

Lee rose from his chair:"For now I think will head down to engineering and see if could help out with some repairs."
