IC: "Stardate 66361.9, we are on our way to the Meja Nebula which is along the Klingon border. We are following a Dagger Class ship who is also en route to the Nebula. They seem to be in a quite a hurry. I'm curious what the rush is. I can only assume..."
The normal sounds of the bridge was all you could hear. No one said a word as they shadowed the Dagger class vessel. Finally, the silence was broken, "Admiral, there is a Sidney Class runabout just outside the nebula, approximately 929 meters away."
"Any life signs on the runabout?"
"None. But the Dagger class has picked up speed."
"They want that runabout. Increase our speed as well."
"Aye Admiral."
The Essex picked up speed.
"Admiral, there is a also a Blade class ship approaching the runabout as well."
"Let's keep them from boarding the runabout."
Andrew got up from his seat and moved to one of the consoles. A few seconds later, "Admiral, if we increase to max speed we can get a 4 minute arrival advantage over the other two ships. That would give us time to get people aboard the runabout, and possibly get it moving. If the runabout is fully operational we could head off back towards the starbase. But that would entail the Essex running cover for us, though. I'm sure the two pirates would try to stop us getting the shuttle back to SB400".
He smiled as he said the word 'us', he had every intention of being on board that runabout and he had a fair idea of who else would be up for it.
Deela nodded in agreement, "Let's do it. Increase speed to maximum." The ship picked up speed. Deela didn't need to ask who else was going to go with him, "Commander, you and Brislan get to the transporter room and get ready to board the runabout."
Andrew was instantly on his feet heading for the door.
"Aye, Admiral," Tressa said as she quickly stood, running to the lift after Commander Clifford.
The Essex was only slightly ahead of the others. They only had a small window before they had to put up their shields. They arrived at their destination, "T'Lar to Clifford, you're on."
Tressa looked to Clifford as the Admiral spoke.
"How close do we have to get to transport?" she asked.
Andrew smiled, "We are already close enough". The USS Essex transporter room faded from view to be replaced by the cramped interior of the runabout.
Andrew was off the pad like a shot, "C'mon Tressa, we only have seconds to get power and shields up."
He was quickly at the control panel and immediately started tapping. "We have power. Get the shields up. Just open the circuits and I'll feed the power as fast I can raise it". She jumped to the helm.
"Yes Commander," Tressa replied. "Shields at 75 percent."
A split second later the red alert sounded on the small vessel. Tressa turned to the sensor panel.
"Commander, the Dagger class is armed and preparing to fire."
Andrew looked up from the console and smiled, "Best we get a move on then"
Simultaneously, back on board the Essex, red alert was already issued. Deela gave her next order, "Cmdr. Lokran, as soon as they are on the runabout, raise shields." Within seconds, everyone began to fire upon each other, including the Essex. The shields went up with no seconds to spare. "Protect the runabout."
"Done, Admiral." said R'nard. He used the weapons well, though he wished he was out there. That was his forte.
The Essex moved in to block passage to the runabout, hoping to give them time to raise shields and get back to SB400. A battle for possession of the runabout began. No one wanted the other to have the runabout, no one.
The Blade class ship fired upon the Dagger class ship. The Dagger class ship fought back. It was smaller but maneuvered better. He managed to get a few shots off himself. They tried to keep each other from approaching the runabout. Once they realized that there was another ship keeping them from their goal, they now turned on the Essex.
On the runabout, Tressa braced herself for impact as the Dagger class fired a volley. The security panel dimmed and brightened.
"Commander, shields are at 50 percent. Life support holding steady at 78 percent," she said as she got back to her feet.
Andrew continued to feed the power up, "Get the shuttle moving back towards SB400. Heading 187, Mark 42. As soon as you are able get the navigation on line. I'll work the power systems and get the weapons online".
"Yes Commander," she said, moving to the navigation panel, but a message on the sensor panel caught her eye.
"Blade class is within transporter range, shields are holding at 45 percent." The vessel trembled and Tressa watched as Clifford faded slightly. She saw part of the panel through her own hand, but the shields held. Her eyes met Clifford's before they each returned to the task at hand.
"That was close, hit the drive and just get us moving, don't worry about not having full power, just give it everything. Andrew mentally shuddered, that was way to close. They had to get moving it would make it harder to lock on with transporters. In the mean time he started boosting power to the shields, and getting the main power online.
The Essex shook from the first shot of the Blade class ship, then the Dagger class ship. "Cmdr. Lokran, fire at will."
R'nard kept firing, his face a study of concentration.
"Admiral T'Lar to Major Hurd, deploy your men. We have two ships firing at us."
"They are already doing so as we speak."
"Very good. Carry on."
Deela, knowing that the Dagger class was no match for the Essex, "Major Hurd, have your men target the Dagger class ship. We'll concentrate on the other ship."
"You've got it."
Soon, the marines were attacking the Dagger Class ship. "T'Lar to Clifford, what is your ETA of getting that runabout moving?"
Tressa looked to the Commander as the Admiral's query came over the comm.
"Coordinates are in, the navigation panel looks good. Impulse drive is coming online but I can't get the warp drive to talk to me. We'll have enough boost to get her going in 3 minutes," the doctor said.
Andrew tapped his comm badge, "We will have impulse in 3 minutes, Admiral".
"Very well. I'll keep the Blade class ship busy. It is imperative that you get that runabout back to Starbase 400. Major Hurd is taking care of the Dagger class."
Andrew looked at Tressa, "Understood Admiral." He closed the com channel, "Don't worry about warp, concentrate on the impulse engines and get them going. We can have a look at the warp drive once we are underway. The runabout is pretty much back up to full power".
