Episode 118 - "It's About Family"
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1 - 1045hrs
ON:
Bremer was in his new office, looking out over the docking by of Starbase 400. Draven came through the door, almost rushing in.
“Mike…we have a problem.” Lek said, very concerned.
“What’s going on?” Mike asked…hoping it wasn’t a report of more Borg activity.
“A few months ago, when we were dealing with Mirror Universe agents…You, Roebuck, and a couple of others reported some odd goo-like substances at some of the attack sites. We thought it might be Changeling residue but we couldn’t confirm. Well, I was going on reports from Doctor Crusher regarding the Changelings found on the Titan and her data matches what we found, one hundred percent.” Draven explained.
“Lek, you’re telling me that we did in fact have Changelings aboard the Station?” Mike asked.
“No, I’m telling you that we do now.” Draven replied as he handed Mike a PADD. “I had a transporter maintenance team start updating our transporter tech with something Crusher and Miles O’Brien came up with…basically a way to detect them during beaming…and one used a site to site transport a few minutes ago. They beamed from Level 350, to 2200, then to Level 60…Ops.”
“Who?” Mike asked as he stood.
Draven shook his head, “Unknown, no commbadge was present.”
Mike walked back Draven and out into Ops. He looked around for a moment.
“Internal sensors are compromised, so I can’t back trace movements or who was the last to arrive here.” Draven added as he walked beside Mike.
K'Temoc, Archer, Harper, MacLeod, and the rest of the crew in Ops all looked back at Mike.
“Who was the last person to arrive in Ops?” Mike asked the room.
A few people looked around at others, but no one spoke.
“I need to know who?” Mike said.
Archer glanced up from his Ops console. “I believe it was Mister MacLeod. He beamed in a few minutes ago.”
Mike walked toward Mac as K’Temoc glanced over at him.
“Where did you beam in from?” Mike asked Mac.
After a moment MacLeod replied, “The Repulse, she should be ready to relaunch tomorrow with the Pegasus, Essex, and a few other ships.”
Draven had walked to the other side of Ops, behind MacLeod and out of his site while still being in a direct line of site for Mike. After a moment Draven shook his head ‘no’.
“Mac, where were you? There’s been no transporter activity from the Repulse.” Mike replied.
MacLeod didn’t say anything. He glanced at Harper then K’Temoc. “What’s going on? Are you accusing me of something?”
“Why are you sweating?” Mike asked.
MacLeod looked around again.
“You haven’t regenerated in a while, or, you were too close to fusion reactor without protection recently” Mike replied as he eyed Mac.
MacLeod looked around again, then suddenly reverted to a Changeling’s natural form and tried to move away. Mike quickly drew a phaser he had hidden behind his back and fired, as did Draven from the other side of Ops. After several hits the Changeling stopped moving and was vaporized after a few more phaser hits.
“A Changeling?” K’Temoc asked. “Where the hell is MacLeod? Dead?”
“I don’t know, but I sure as hell want to find out.” Mike replied as he holstered his phaser.
Mike walked over to the remains of the Changeling. “Get a medical team up here to take care of this. Lock down all turbolifts and restrict all unnecessary movements. Anyone that needs to go between levels will have to use site to site transports so we can track Changeling movements.”
“Track their movements sir?” Harper asked.
Mike nodded. He wasn’t ready to tell everyone what Draven had reported…frankly he wasn’t sure who he could trust right now. “Let’s make this happen people, find anymore of those Changeling bastards aboard the Station and neutralize them. We can’t let them leave the station. Let’s move!”
