Mission: Episode 108 – Tragedies, Fortunes, and an Endgame
Location: USS Yorktown and USS Vanguard
Timeline: MD1 - 1540hrs

ON:

USS Yorktown, Bridge

Both the Yorktown and Vanguard were cloaked and sitting just outside of the Psi Velorum system.

"Are you sure?" K'Temoc asked.

"I've ran three passive scans, they have four defensive weapons platforms each with two rapid fire Type 21 Disrupter cannons and a Plasma Torpedo launcher. Not the two we expected." K'Wor replied.

"Their sensors are as expected, so we should be able to confuse them while we hit them with Hellfires." Cross added.

K'Temoc nodded. "Alright, what about defending ships?"

"Well, there's two. A Mogai type cruiser we expected, but there's also a d'Deridex that warped in just before we did." K'Wor replied.

"They expecting us?" K'Temoc asked.

"Doubtful." Cross said. "The Warbird shows signs of battle damage. Judging by the course they came in from, I'd say it's here waiting for a drydock to open up. I'd say they were one of the ships involved in their raid on Fenris that the Rangers repulsed."

K'Temoc paused a moment while he thought about different options. "Alright, we'll proceed as planned. Destroy the weapons platforms first, then the defending ships, then the comm reply and the drydocks. We'll attack together, quick hits on the platforms, cloak, reposition, engage the ships."


USS Vanguard, Bridge

"Update from the Yorktown." Patel said, handing Mac a PADD.

Mac read over the PADD and nodded. "Alright. Mister Metsker, stand by to target the defensive weapon platforms near the drydocks. We're engaging them first, then recloaking before taking another attack approach on the Warbird."

"Yes sir, standing by." Metsker replied.


USS Yorktown, Bridge

"Firing solution ready." K'Wor said.

"Mister McWire, got any tricks that'll help us blind or confuse those platforms' sensors?

"We could try to blind them with a high frequency wave line, we might then be to over load the system for a short while until it adjust it self, giving us possibilities to strike fast. I am not 100% sure if that will work, Sir. It is a 50/50 chance of success. The other idea that came to my mind just now is use a Klingon de-cloak and cloak again. This would give us a small window to shoot our weapons, it will make it hard to a lock on us and the First strike would be surprise.“ said Percy. His ideas could spark other ideas to bring up for discussion.

K'Temoc thought for a moment. "Make the frequency wave ready and pass the information to the Vanguard too."

"I can manual target the platform, decloak and recloak us after a torpedo salvo too, giving it less time to lock onto us. However as soon as we appear the cruiser and warbird will be inbound." K'Wor added.

K'Temoc nodded. "Let's get to work. Let me know when you're ready McWire."

“Yes, Sir” he said. Percy’s finger were starting to fly over his station configuring the high frequency wave. “Almost ready”. “Oh that was a bit easier at the academy ” he thought, he was getting closer as he slowly got more and more familiar with his by the minute. He than called out “High frequency wave is ready on your command, Sir”.

"I've sent the information to the Vanguard." Cross added.

"Full impulse." K'Temoc said.

The Defiant class ship sped off toward its targets while the Prometheus class USS Vanguard bore down on her's.

"Within weapon's range." K'Wor said.

"Active the wave Ensign." K'Temoc said to McWire.

The Ensign activated the wave “Activated ,Sir “ Percy said.

"Decloak and fire." K'Temoc added.

The Defiant class ship suddenly appeared and quickly launched two bright green Hellfire torpedoes before recloaking. The torpedoes skipped passed the platform's shields and ripped into its hull, destroying it.

"Alter course for the other platform." K'Temoc said, "McWire be ready with the wave again."

“The wave will be ready” McWire said while while he was recharging the wave.

"Admiral, the Vanguard is decloaking an firing on the first platform near the drydocks." Cross paused for a moment. "Its down, but that Warbird is firing on them." He paused again, "Vanguard is repositioning and cloaking.

“The wave is ready for another round, Sir” said Percy looking back up from his console.


USS Vanguard, Bridge

"Damage?" Mac asked.

"None sir, shields holding." Patel added.

"Captain, the Warbird is actively scanning for us, including tachyon scans." Metsker reported.

"Murphy, get us within range of the other platform." Mac said.

"Working on it, trying to avoid their scans too." Murphy replied.

The Prometheus class turned, descended, the turned again.

"I've got a target lock with aft torpedoes." Metsker said.

"Do it." Mac ordered.

Archer tapped in a few commands on the Ops panel. "Wave generated."

"Decloaking and firing." Metsker added.

The Vanguard appeared and launched two Hellfire torpedoes. The Warbird fired at the torpedoes with her port disruptors while it fired on the Vanguard with her aft weapons while it turned to face the Federation ship. In the meantime the Vanguard also turned and launched several tri-cobalt torpedoes at the unshielded drydocks.


USS Yorktown, Bridge

"The Vanguard is engaging the Warbird and the drydocks. The defense arrays are eliminated." Cross reported. "And, the cruiser is turning toward the Vanguard too."

"Alright, this is our chance. Activate the wave, destroy the platform, then let's eliminate the cruiser." K'Temoc said.

The wave blinded defensive array and then it suddenly exploded. The Defiant class ship then turned and fired on the cruiser's tail.

"That got their attention." K'Wor said.

The Yorktown shook from a hit.

"Boost power to the shields. Attack pattern Delta-Two." K'Temoc ordered.

“Yes Sir, boosting shields” he said tapping away on his console then confirming “Shields boosted up-to 150%, Sir . I had to take some energies from minor system to boost the shield any more boost and we might experience system failure, Sir. Sorry I can’t give you any more” Percy said, wishing that he could have given the Admiral more but he couldn’t he didn’t want to risk any system failures.

K'Temoc nodded.

The Yorktown's pulse phaser fired a burst, then another, hitting the Mogai type cruiser in the impulse engines slowing it. The Yorktown then rolled to port to descend before angling up again and firing a salvo of Quantum torpedoes which impacted the cruiser's belly.

As the cruiser veered off the Yorktown took aim at the comm relay.

"Can you get into their communications systems at all?" K'Temoc asked Cross.

"I've been trying, their encryption is really good...they've made some improvements. I managed to download their latest comm messages but no idea if they are fleet movements or some mess officer's food requisitions for the week." Cross replied. "I think I have their comm protocols as well, but with the encryptions, I can't be certain."

K'Temoc nodded, "Okay, destroy it."

"I've implanted a virus to try and disrupt the comm signals between ships and other relays, and it's been sent out." Cross added.

"Firing." K'Wor said.

The Yorktown fired off two Tri-Cobalt torpedoes which ripped the comm array apart with a massive explosion.

"Hell yeah!" K'Wor said, just before the Yorktown was hit, then hit again and again.

The Bridge shook as vapor filled the air. Sparks flew from Tactical Two as the Ensign there turned away.

"Shields at seventy percent." K'Wor replied

"Ensign McWire." K'Temoc said, not really asking a direct question.

“On it Sir” he said while typing and monitoring his station, acting quickly he was able to take some more energy by not just draining it but shutting down those minor systems to boost the shield a lot bit more “ I managed to get 85 %, more than that is not possible under constant fire,Sir“ Percy said .

While lo looking at his panel he noticed that a few Relais had fried as they got hit and send out some repair drones to replace them. “Sir, I suggest we could try stay in their blind spot when possible to evade further hit. “He said in a not forth coming tone.

K'Temoc nodded at McWire, then looked forward again. "Helm, course zero-three-zero mark two-one-five, bring us in close on that cruiser and hug 'em tight. K'Wor, rip 'em apart."

The Defiant class ship turned and streaked toward the larger Romulan cruiser, tucking in below and just to the left. As the Yorktown pitched up she unleashed hell with her pulse phasers and several quantum torpedoes. The Romulan's shields collapsed and a hole was tore into it's belly. As the Yorktown tuned away she fired off a few photon torpedoes from her aft launchers for good measure. After a moment the Romulan ship slowed to a stop, burning, and unable to fire.


USS Vanguard, Bridge

The ship shook from a hit from the Warbird.

"Shields down to sixty percent." Metsker reported.

"Bring us about, target their forward weapon's array." Mac ordered.

"Their port nacelle shows signs of heavy damage." Petal added.

As the Prometheus class ship turned and pressed her attack on the Warbird, she fired several quantum torpedoes at the nose of the bigger ship, and several phaser beams at the nacelle.

As the Vanguard passed the Warbird the Yorktown arrived to assist and targeted the damaged nacelle too. A few pulse phaser hits later the big ship's nacelle exploded and sent it into an uncontrollable spin. The Vanguard pounded it with a few photon torpedoes just before the Warbird collided with one of the drydocks, destroying it, the ship inside, and the Warbird.

With the defending forces eliminated, both ships started firing on the unprotected dry docks with phasers and photon torpedoes after they exhausted their compliments of tri cobalt torpedoes.


USS Yorktown, Bridge

"Sir, incoming Romulan and Krazzle ships. A Valdore and a Cheeta. They'll be here in thirty seconds." K'Wor reported.

"Fire on the last drydock, and signal the Vanguard to drop a spread of mines. We'll do the same. Make it quick." K'Temoc replied.

Both ships fired one more time, heavily damaging the last dry dock. As they turned away they released several mines that spread across the area as they cloaked. A moment later both ships cloaked and warped away as the enemy vessels dropped out of warp and started scanning.

"McWire, get started on repairs. I have a feeling we haven't seen our last fighting today." K'Temoc said.
