USS Enterprise-E, Bridge
Mike was pacing the Bridge while the Enterprise and the rest of the support fleet were holding position. The Alliance Fleet had engaged the Typhon Pact fleet more than thirty minutes ago but communications had been interrupted.
"Could you wear out the carpet pacing like that Sir? "Vox commented. He totally appreciated the situation but always tried to inject a moderate amount of humour to ease things. Sometimes this would be a bad idea. He hoped this was not one of those times.
Mike glanced over and smirked. "You're right. I'd hate to get a call from Admiral Picard saying I ruined his ship's carpet."
Vox smirked, " Absolutely not sir, no you would not."
USS Essex Bridge
Kah’lyn stood at her station watching every reading that was coming through, there wasn’t a lot else to do but be prepared. She reached into her pocket and broke off a small amount of biscuit that she popped into her mouth, her appetite had certainly increased since she’d become pregnant but that was to be expected.
" Did you make that biscuit? Cravings already?" Croesus whispered as he nudged beside Kah'lyn.
“It’s just a ginger biscuit” Kah’lyn smiled. “It’s helping to stave off my morning sickness. Cravings could be interesting given my mixed heritage.”
" Gagh with Romulan ale. Or baked beans and Gagh yum."
“Ohh that sounds ...” She shook her head, just the thought made her feel queasy again.
Xalanth let out a slight chuckle as he listened to his shipmates chewed on a lump of kulang. it was a dried mushroom that grew in the caverns of his people's homeworld that had a calming effect when chewed. Of course, the ones he had the addiction side effect removed.
Kah’lyn quickly left her station and headed for the nearest bathroom. She reappeared a few minutes later looking a little more pale than she had but resumed her station nonetheless.
" Are you ok?" Croesus asked.
“Not really but I’ll cope” Kah’lyn offered a smile.
Croesus returned to Ops and resumed his role. Preparing for what was ahead. Inwardly Croesus blood longed for battle as ge clutched his side phaser and dak'tagh.
USS Lexington, Bridge
Stark sat in the Captain's chair and looked back at Harper. "Anything?"
"No sir. No data feed, no sensor readings, no communications from the battle site." The Ensign answered from tactical.
"I've tried narrow band, high res scans, alternating comm frequencies, I just can't get through," Wayne explained as he walked from the engineering station back to the XO's seat. "We've got to get closer."
USS Ark Royal-A, Bridge
Jack paced the Bridge of his new command for the third time and stopped by the Operations Station on his way back to the centre of the Bridge itself. Looking over the Ops panel for a quick glance of any chance, he looked up at Lieutenant JG Taloris.
"Still nothing? It's too damn quiet out there considering that the Alliance Fleet had engaged the Typhon Pact fleet more than thirty minutes ago...Are you sure there's no signals or communications in any way?" he asked her.
The Vulcan Ops Officer calmly ran another scan of the area and still picked up no new signals. "Sensors pick up no comm traffic at all, Captain, whatever is happening out in the combat zone must somehow be being blocked or disrupted to stop any communications from getting through," she answered.
"Exactly as the Jem'Hadar did during Operation Return, now that was a day to be alive... If there is any jamming going on, could you find a way to break through it?" Jack asked.
"Its possible Captain, however, my efforts would be greatly increased if the ship were...closer to the combat zone. The shorter the distance the greater the odds of success," Taloris explained.
Jack looked at her with a smile. "Just got me a new ship and already once of the Senior Staff wants to make sure I scuff the paintwork on the first day out," he said, before heading back to the centre seat.
USS Enterprise-E, Bridge
Draven looked over at Mike, "I still can't get through to the battle fleet, but I'm sure I know why."
"What do you have?" Mike asked.
"The Kziniti have been working on a way to isolate enemy ships during engagements. Probes that emit EM Pulses on rotating frequencies and harmonics. It's similar to how the Cardassians like to jam communications. Each probe operations on a slightly different frequency and modulation so you'd have to take out several to get any decent signal out." Draven explained.
Mike looked around for a moment and took a deep breath. "So the fleet could be calling for help and we'd never know it."
"Yes sir. And frankly, if the fleet had smashed through the Typhon Pact forces they would have been able to isolate and eliminate the probes without interference. Draven added.
Mike returned to the Captain's Chair. "Red Alert, all hands to Battle Stations. Signal the support force to set course for the battle site. Warp nine. Engage."
Vox looked around the bridge as the lights dimmed and the red glow flashed from the red alert lighting. He took out from his pocket his lucky charm, a red Spican flame gem. Although a low-value gemstone, this one was a gift from a young Trill girl who Vox helped with some homework on a recent trip back to the Trill Homeworld. The young girl, Alanra, was so grateful, she gave him the gemstone from her own collection and Vox considered it now his lucky charm. He held it in his hand. He turned to Mike.
"Sir, remember the Klingon proverb, Suvlu'taHvIS yapbe' HoS neH. Which means, brute strength is not the most important asset in a fight. Knowing this, we will be victorious." He smiled.
USS Ark Royal-A, Bridge
Jack looked up as he heard Caveel call for his attention. "Captain, we're receiving new orders from Fleet Admiral Bremer," she said, looking at the screen next to her seat. "He's ordering the Support Fleet into the combat zone."
Jack looked over at the data coming across his XO's position and nodded with what he saw. "I thought as much," he said before walking over to the singleton helm station. "They suspect that some sort of rotating EM Pulse of Xinti origin is keeping us out of contact with the fleet, sneaky beggars."
Once he arrived at the helm, Jack looked over at Lieutenant Raven. "Take us in Lieutenant, follow the flagship and keep us in formation." Once she nodded and got to work, Jack turned around to face the rest of the bridge crew.
"All hands, man your battle stations, we're entering the combat zone," he said before sitting back down again. As he got comfortable for a moment, Jack looked around and saw everyone moving briskly to their Battlestations, knowing tat all around the ship, the rest of the crew were doing the same.
