Ariana sat in her office feet up plowing through all the files and appointment requests that had piled up. With not doing quite so many hours her appointment requests were mounting. She sighed and took a few moments to relax, her mind drifting back to when she’d first gotten back from the Falcon.

~ Sickbay, MD2 ~

Ariana walked into Sickbay alongside Anna, now they were home she wanted the problem with her son sorted as soon as possible. Her worried expression turned to Carolyn as she saw her friend ahead of them. “Carolyn! We need your help. There’s a problem... with my son.”

Hearing the familiar voice calling out her name, not missing the undercurrent of worry in her friend's tone, Doctor Corrigan paused in midstride and turned to face the new arrivals in sickbay. Without another word she ushered them both towards one of the nearby consultation rooms, so they had at least a small sense of privacy.

She knew, given Ariana's condition, that Dr Kelley was in charge of the counsellor's pre-natal care yet that did not prevent anyone on the medical staff from caring for Ariana and her unborn child provided they were suitably qualified. And, right now, Dr Kelley was one very overworked woman. Given Dr Woodhouse had accompanied her, she guessed her fellow physician had either uncovered something or something had happened during their mission.

"Please, sit," she said, directing Ariana to sit on the edge of the biobed in the centre of the room. "Perhaps, Dr Woodhouse could bring me up to speed on what the problem is exactly?"

“Of course,” Anna said, a serious expression on her face. “When I did my initial scans for Arianna to serve on the Falcon I found an issue with the baby.”
She handed a padd to Carolyn. “As you can see, we can correct it.”

Ariana jumped in. “I want to get on with whatever needs to be done, I need to get it sorted. I want to know my son is alright!” She looked between the two. “I don’t care what it is, we do it!”

"Ariana, believe me, we are all going to do everything to ensure you and your baby are safe. However, one of the most important things you can do to help your son is to try and remain as calm as possible," Carolyn reminded her. "The first thing we are going to do is get a more detailed look at what we are dealing with and we can work from there, agreed?"

Ariana nodded. “Sorry ... yes Agreed.” She looked to Anna and offered a warm smile before looking at Carolyn. “I know Anna could have dealt with this but I needed the extra reassurance of having you there.”

"No reassurance needed, you are going to be fine," Carolyn promised. Glancing at Anna, she added, "we'll use the surgical imaging suite. Just give me five minutes to get it prepped?"

“Of course,” Anna said with a smile. “I am ready when you are.”

"Perfect," Carolyn nodded as she disappeared out of sight.

Hades strolled into the bay. He had one more meeting before he'd shut down and he and Sky left. He was surprised to see Arianna there. "Is everything all right?"

Ariana looked at Hades. “No, everything is not alright.” She looked at Anna then back at Hades. “There’s something wrong with my son!”

Anna looked to Hades. “There is a defect we need to correct,” she put a reassuring hand on Ariana. “It can be repaired quite easily.”

Ariana offered a smile, albeit a nervous one given the circumstances.

"All ready," Carolyn announced as she came back in the room, surprised to find Hades had joined the little group.

Hades would have loved to pick up a tricorder but Carolyn and Anna were very capable doctors and he had to let them handle this. "Tell me about what needs to be done." He said instead.

Ariana looked between Carolyn and Anna, she needed to know that as well.

Anna brought the screen up and handed it to Hades. “There is a defect right there,” she showed him. “It is a matter of us just going on and correcting the vessels near the heart right there so that the babies blood flow is corrected.”

"It is a straightforward procedure," Carolyn assured Ariana. "One I've done many times. Nothing to worry about. I would just like to get that detailed scan so we know exactly what we are dealing with before we start. Dr Woodhouse, would you like to take Ariana through and begin the scan. I need to catch up with Dr Hades on another patient while he is here?"

“Yes,” Anna said with a nod and turned to Ariana with a smile. “Shall we?”

Ariana nodded and offered a brief smile as she headed through with Anna. “I trust you Anna, always have and always will. I’m sorry if I’ve acted like I don’t. I’m just scared that’s all.”

“I don’t feel that way at all,” Anna assured her. “If it were me I would be doing exactly as you are, don’t give it another thought.”

Ariana nodded. “Let’s get this done.” She moved over to the holoimaging biobed and made herself as comfortable as possible, “Ready when you are Anna.

Hades watched them go and turned to Carolyn waiting to see what patient she meant.

“I need to ask you something...” she said quietly as she ushered Hades towards his office.

He followed without question. He was still very sedate and quiet. It had been a reflective time. As they entered he perched on the edge of the desk saying nothing.

“I’d like you to assist Dr Woodhouse,” Carolyn said simply.

Hades raised an eyebrow. "Oh....why?"

“For one, Ariana will be reassured, out of us all, you mean the most to her and if that makes her more relaxed and comfortable, I’ll take it,” Carolyn observed. “Second, before you leave, I think it’s important for you to be doing more than looking after bumps and bruises. You are the best doctor on this station, you are hurting but Ariana needs you.”

He sighed. "I see your point. I will defer to you." He looked at her. "How are you doing?"

“You do? That’s ... great,” Carolyn managed, clearly expecting to have more of a fight on her hands. “I’m okay. Tired. And throwing up is getting old. Apparently with mixed heritage, it’s to be expected. It will be fine.”

Uncharacteristically he reached out and pulled her to him. "Carolyn...you are my daughter. You know you may come to me with anything."

“I know,” she assured him. Not that she would, it wasn’t in her nature. Although they did need to speak. “Maybe after we are done we can get some tea on the promenade? If you have time before you and Skye leave?”

"I do indeed." He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Alright. Off I go."

Meanwhile Ariana was waiting for the results of the scan Anna had run. A part of her wanted to know and another part was dreading what the scans might show.

"Are we all set?" Carolyn asked as she entered the room, Hades in tow.

"Doctor Hades will assist with the procedure," Carolyn advised them, offering Ariana a reassuring smile, "there is nobody better and I'll be observing the whole time."

Ariana smiled and nodded. “Thank you, all of you. I have the upmost faith in you all.”

Hades gave a nod. "I'll scrub in." He hurried away and changed into his red operating gear. It had been a long time since he'd just assisted. Within minutes he came back in. He took a hypo an pressed it to her neck. "Time for a little nap." He took her hand. "All will be well. I promise."

Ariana smiled and held onto Hades hand until her grip let go as she fell asleep.

"Vital signs are stable and strong," Carolyn confirmed. "She's in your hands Dr Woodhouse."

Hades looked up. "Alright. Let's get this done. I want her in recover as soon as possible."

“Yes sir,” Anna nodded. She went to work, confident i. The surgery at hand and that she could peform it without any issues. You could hear a pin drop as the other doctors watched her work, she respected them both immensely. Once she reached the area Of the defect, she repaired it without any issues and finally sat back, smiling at the other doctors. “Complete success.”

"Indeed. Let's get her to recovery." They shipped her off to recovery and Hades awaited her waking. He would not leave before she was awake.

As she started to regain consciousness Ariana opened her eyes offering both Anna and Hades a tired smile. “Did it ... go alright?”

Anna smiled at Ariana as she stood next to her, reaching out to squeeze her hand. "Everything went just as we expected. It was a success."

Ariana smiled. “Thank you Anna.” She closed her eyes happy in the knowledge that all would be alright.”
