The meeting with Hades over and some breathing space later Ariana made her way to Carolyn’s Quarters to talk to her colleague and friend. Arriving at the door she pressed the chime and patiently waited.

“Come in!” Carolyn called over her shoulder as she continued to pack a bag. She wasn’t going to lie, no matter what the intentions - being sidelined like this was like a kick in the stomach. And there was so much to do! Glancing back she smiled, “hey.”

“Hey” Ariana offered a commiserating look. “Pardon me for saying this but I think Hades is risking a hell of a lot! I for one don’t like it.”

“Well the Admiral approved it so there isn’t much to be done. Just be careful, okay?” Carolyn urged.

Ariana nodded and sighed. “Of course, I spoke to Cameron earlier he’s not happy about the Mercy going into battle. I don’t normally worry but I’m a Counsellor not a seasoned XO and like you I’ve got a baby to protect, not to mention having to leave Stacie.”

“Hades won’t let anything happen to you. And he is confident,” she said as she crossed to the shelf beside the door and began to carefully gather the wedding bands and the cube which allowed her to see detailed scans of her daughter any time she wished. With care she packed them away before gathering up what Rainbow would need.

“I know he is that’s what scares me!” Ariana took a seat as she watched Carolyn pack. “He wouldn’t be sending you away if he wasn’t expecting this to be dangerous, maybe I’m just worrying about nothing I don’t really know!”

“He’d happily have me behind lock and key on the colony if it meant this baby was safe from the universe,” Carolyn pointed out, “and without the Mercy we need to boost the medical staff elsewhere. I’d happily stay but surgeons are in short supply.”

Ariana nodded. “Just promise me you’ll be safe okay?” She offered her friend a smile. “If anything goes awry Hades will never forgive himself for sending you away from the Mercy in the first place.”

"I'll be fine," Carolyn promised before adding with a mischievous smile, "Besides, Nivar's ship will be as far from the fighting as possible. Unless I plan a mutiny, which is a strong possibility."

Ariana grinned. “That’s if I don’t beat you to the mutiny first!”

"Sssh, or he'll have both of us out an airlock," Carolyn joked. She sighed as she closed her case over. "This ship was kind of starting to feel like home from home. It's gonna be a strange."

“I know, I’ve kind of gotten used to being between here and Starbase 23. It’s started to become a second home, not that I won’t be glad to see Starbase 400 again.”

"Me too. I don't even know if they will be in one piece or not but I haven't even been in Harris' quarters. Maybe Hades dealt with everything... I'm not sure," Carolyn mused.

“No doubt we’ll find out when we get back, I guess all we can do is hope.” Ariana sighed. “I would love to get back to normal.”

"There's a normal setting around here?" Carolyn asked incredulously.

“Well I’m hoping there is!” Ariana grinned before looking more serious. “To be honest I’m still getting a handle on the new me! I’m still ... blending so-to-speak. The other me is still there we’re just learning to be part of each other.”

"It'll take time," Carolyn reminded her as she retrieved her medical kit from the closet, quickly opening it to check the contents. As usual it was overpacked, barely able to close.

"I know" Ariana smiled. "It's just strange that's all. Can I help you with your bags?"

"No, it's okay, I've got them. I'll leave most of them here for the time being. Kitty is going to keep an eye on Rainbow for me on SB23, keep her out of trouble. So I'm heading there just now while engineering are dismantling some of our equipment. And she's a puppy, she packs light," Carolyn grinned. "I had considered asking Skye but I don't know if she is staying on the base, on the Mercy or whatever."

Ariana nodded. “I’ve no doubt Hades made sure she’ll be safe. Anyway I guess I’d best be getting off to the bridge, I’ll see you when we get our home back.”

"Absolutely," Carolyn agreed as she hesitated for a moment before hugging her friend. "I'll see you both on the station. Take care of each other."

“We will” Ariana hugged her friend. “Take care of yourself too Carolyn, you and your little one. I want to see you back safe too.” She let Carolyn go before nodding, taking one last look and heading on her way.
