Mission: Episode 106 – Stalemate
Location: USS Mercy
Timeline: MD5 1500 hours

Kaden was walking down the corridor holding Corrigan's dog in one hand his cane in the other. He had just finished workout in the gym alone when the pup showed up out of nowhere having to somehow gotten loose. Knowing for certain Carolyn be searching high and low for her pet he figured he bring her dog back.

After of course spoiling it with a few treats first he had taken a liking to her dog pausing to pet it for a few moments. While her dog licked his sweaty brow as Kaden had yet to change out of his sweat covered gym clothes. When he rounded the bend he could see Corrigan looking for something her pet no doubt. "Hey, Doc, looking for this?"

Turning at the sound of Kaden’s question, her gaze went to the furball in his hands. The big brown eyes staring back were those of a puppy knowing full well she had done wrong and was not the least bit bothered. Relief flooded through her, replacing the worry and the panic.

“Bow!” She hurried over to relieve Kaden of his extra burden, flashing him a grateful smile as the puppy tried to lick her face. Refusing to let the animal off that easy she held her at bay as she turned her attention to Kaden, “thank you! I must have forgot to lock the door before I left for the Starbase. And you, Bow! Where’d you think you were going on your own?”

"To come hang out with me in the gym apparently guess I needed the company while lifting weights." Kaden replied flashing the good doctor a smile back. He gestured to walk Corrigan and her dog home with his free arm.

“I guess she got lonely, I normally come back during lunch,” Carolyn explained, letting Rainbow cuddle in.

Kaden strode along with Corrigan's pace as he raised an eyebrow. "Take it Freya coming to see you sort of held you up?" He asked.

“Hm? No. Dr Hades and I had meetings with the medical staff on the base. We’ve been sharing supplies, some of our staff have managed to get some extra time in surgical rotations and the like. But it is a logistical nightmare at times. But thanks for making sure Rainbow got back safely. She seems to have taken a liking to you.”

"I have to admit your dog is adorable I may of gave her few treats while she was with me just don't let my cat find out." Kaden replied in a teasing tone. He ruffled Rainbow between her ears licking his hand as he did so.

“My dog also seems very good at wrapping people around her paws,” Carolyn noted. “But yeah, she is adorable. Too adorable at times. I can’t stay mad at her. Ever. And she knows it.”

Kaden knew the feeling Artemis had that way with him many times when he got mad at that cat of his. All he had to do was that adorable look he gave him and Kaden would instantly forgive him. "Animals do that way I suppose, that natural gift to butter you up."

“Apt, since she was a gift,” Carolyn replied as they neared her quarters. “Although I still don’t really understand why Harris picked a puppy. I mean, he thought he’d be here to look after her and all but ....” she shrugged.

Kaden had heard the mention of a Dr. Harris before he was exactly sure what happened to the guy as it must of took place before his and Freya's arrival. "Harris, he and you were an item right?" He asked.

“We were husband and wife,” she corrected, before adding with a sad smile, “but we only had a short time together. He died to protect me and our baby.”

Kaden frowned he felt bad for Corrigan she had to feel somewhat lost right now cause he knew he would if something bad happened to Freya. "I am sorry I didn't mean to overstep my bounds, Doc."

“You didn’t,” she said with a dismissive shrug. “Harris was kind, an amazing Doctor and would have been an amazing father given the chance. He’s about the only thing that has kept me getting up every day. And Rainbow of course.”

At mention of her name, Rainbow barked.

Kaden rubbed Rainbow on her head before feeling maybe they should focus on something a bit more constructive. "Well, I suppose since your dog brought me here maybe you can take few minutes real quick to look at my leg for me. I would like to go on light duty if you let me." He said.

She nodded, leading him inside her quarters. "Take a seat," she told him as set down Rainbow and headed into her room to collect her medical kit. When she returned she knelt on the floor, opening the kit out. "We should really do this in sickbay to compare the scans. Fortunately for you, your doctor has a photographic memory... just stay still for a second."

Kaden watch Corrigan scan him over rubbing Rainbow on the back as she did so. "Don't think I need the cane anymore do you?" He asked hoping she said he could now be free of it.

“If you feel you don’t need it, then ditch it. Perhaps keep it in a corner for a week or two to be sure you are comfortable walking without it,” she advised. “Okay, light duties approved. I’ll update your medical notes as soon as I’m back in Sickbay.”

Kaden pointed to the brace Corrigan gave him after breaking Kendall's nose. "Any chance I can ditch this too? Or least cover it up with some trousers?" He asked.

"That stays for at least a week," she told him firmly, "but yes, you can cover it up. It's only been a few hours Kaden, give it a chance to actually help you. If you are comfortable enough in three or four days, we'll review and consider taking it off earlier. Sound fair enough?"

Kaden looked at the brace then back at Corrigan. "Fair enough." He fell silent petting Rainbow for a few moments. "I just hope I am up to the task again especially with me having my doubts being in Starfleet now."

“I’m sure all the paperwork waiting for you will totally change your perspective,” she teased lightly as she packed up her kit.

"Don't remind me." Kaden replied as he rolled his eyes.
