Mission: Episode 100 - A Hatred of Atonement
Location: sickbay
Timeline: MD2 2330 hours

From the moment the transporter released them, Sickbay had been a whirlwind of activity.

At the centre of it all, Liam O'Connor had stood in silence. Watching as Counsellor Monroe was carefully lifted onto a biobed in the centre of the room, as a group of nurses and medics gathered around her. As they worked, he understood about two words but that was alright so long as they were doing what they needed to do.

"Are you alright?" Cadet Winters asked as approached him from the opposite direction. As she had hurried around the corner into sickbay the medical student had paused, taking in the sight of everyone gathered around the central biobed. Her gaze had fallen on the man who stood to the side and so she had decided it would be more helpful for her to make sure he was alright rather than crowd out the patient.

As she drew closer she realised he wasn't alone and her eyes widened, "oh!"

She glanced back towards the table, having honestly thought Dr Corrigan was with the group tending to Monroe. Turning her attention back to the pair, she blurted out the first question that came to mind."What happened?!"

"Chloe, please, call General Hurd for Ariana... and security... Lieutenant Ignatious... he ..." Corrigan told her quickly, holding on to Liam for dear life as she shifted a little in his grasp. She cried out, feeling the shard in her side shift.

And there she goes Liam thought inwardly as she collapsed, his hold allowing him to catch and lift her up in one easy movement. He quickly followed as the young medic gestured for him to follow her to the nearby biobed. To her credit even as she walked the cadet was summoning security and the general.

Carefully setting Carolyn down as the cadet called for some help, he reluctantly stepped back, almost knocking down someone in the process. He mumbled an apology, his gaze shifting between the two biobeds and finally down at his bloodstained clothes as he waited for security to arrive.

Dr Mendez appeared beside the cadet, studying the scans on her tricorder for a brief moment before he examined the most urgent of the injuries . His grey eyes were completely cool and calm, the man never known to be phased by a crisis. "The shard is partially embedded in the artery...Dr Wilson, Cadet, you stay with the counsellor. Nurse Nychev, have my team prepare OR 1."

“Will Carolyn be alright!?” Ariana cringed at the pain she was feeling but it wasn’t as bad as it had been now she was away from the holodeck and Andy.

"Of course. It is really just a precaution," Cadet Winters assured the counsellor as she joined Dr Wilson. The older woman had shooed away most of the nurses so that she could work more freely without tripping over anyone. "He will definately be doing first class work to stay on her good side. Not to mention Hades would insist of it.”

"She asked me to call security and General Hurd?" the cadet went on, hoping talking would help keep the counsellor calm as Dr Wilson tended to the wound. "They should all be here in a few minutes. They will probably have some questions..."

Ariana nodded. “Then I’ll do my best to answer.”

“Why you left Sickbay May be one of them,” Dr Wilson commented as she worked quickly. “The bleeding has stopped so I am repairing the tissue and we will start you on some treatments to compensate for the blood loss. And you will be on strict bed rest until we say so. Understood? Good.”

Chloe gave Ariana’s hand a gentle squeeze, “we will have you back with your baby in no time.”

"I am still here too," Liam said with a small wave, looking quite lost as he stood in the middle of sickbay. "If you need me for anything..."

Winters smiled. Before she could speak, the doors to sickbay opened as two security officers entered.

"Over here," she called, waving to them to come and join them. "I called you. , actually Dr Corrigan asked me to call you but she is in surgery so she is not available. But Counsellor Monroe was there... right counsellor?"

Sharing a look, the two security officers clearly wondered what they had gotten themselves into. The older of the two fixed his dark eyes on the woman occupying the bed, "Counsellor Monroe, perhaps you would like to tell us what is going on while the cadet remembers how to breathe?"

General Hurd was pissed. He had been woken from sleep and all he thought to himself as he entered sickbay, Phaser drawn is, "This had damn well be important".

Cadet Winters held up a hand as she stepped around the biobed, "General, please, you do not need your weapon - this is a sickbay! I called you because, well I was told to. I am not sure why but Dr Corrigan specifically asked for me to call you." Glancing at Ariana she added hopefully, "do you happen to know why cos I have nothing?"

"Can we....have a moment alone please?" She looked at the security officers. "Liam you can stay." She waited until they had more privacy to speak. "I asked General Hurd here..." She looked at Hurd. "Because he's my father. I can't explain so don't ask, I just...needed you here."

Hurd nodded his head and smiled. "So what's going on?".

She waved the security officers back over. "Long story short...Lieutenant Andrew Ignatious just tried to intimidate me with intent to do god knows what! And he tried to kill Carolyn as well. It was Liam here..." She offered a smile. "That saved our lives. Andy is dangerous and right now he's on the loose!"

His face turning a dark shade of red, Hurd was shaking with anger as he tapped his Combadge and said, "This is General Hurd, MARSOC Team 1, Marine Security teams 4,5 7, and 9 Locate and detain Lt. Ignatious immediately, use all due force." Turning back to those in the room, he bellow, " Now I want to know exactly what the hell happened and I want to know now".

“General,” Liam interjected, feeling distinctly out of sorts at not throwing in a salute as he used to, “I can only tell you what I know... this Lieutenant is an engineer and a pretty good one at that. From what I could see, he had written a program that could override the one in use but also isolate the Holodeck. They could not use comms either.

When I got there, the lieutenant was approaching your daughter... I cannot speak as to his intentions but there had clearly been a fight. He was injured and from what little I could see there was a lot of damage to the room. I tackled him before he could get to your daughter and we fought. He took an opportunity to run but I made the call to go back for them and get them out. Both of them put up a hell of a fight, Sir.”

“Not that I could put up a lot in my condition!” Aeryn shook her head. “If it hadn’t been for Liam and Carolyn I dread to think what might have happened.” She looked across at the security men. “Freya! Freya Ross! You need to find her!! Andrew used to be Freya’s boyfriend at one point, if he’s going to go for anyone he’ll go for her!”

"Damn", Hurd stormed, "So now your telling me that two more of the people I command and respect are in danger from this dirtbag?"

Ariana nodded. “I’m sorry, it would appear so.”

"Ross? Liam asked. He was still getting to know people on the station, beyond the regulars at the bar. But he knew Kaden.

Ariana nodded. “She’s Kaden’s wife.”

"Would it to be too much to hope that Kaden gets his hands on him?" Liam asked. Times like this he envied security, and even his old life in the marines. At least then, with the right orders, he could do something more than just stand around. "I don't get it. What is this guy's problem? Why that... stunt in the holodeck?"

He started to pace as he started ryhming off questions. "What was he planning? would he have done if I hadn't tried to find Carolyn to...?" he stopped himself. "Why was he after you?"

"It’s not me he really wants, he has a....fascination with women who are dark haired and dark eyed. Carolyn is the only exception to that.” She paused before it suddenly dawned on her. “Wait! It’s Freya! It’s always been about Freya!!” She looked at Liam. “Warn Kaden!”

"Please counsellor," Cadet Winters urged, "you need to stay as calm as possible..."

Liam looked towards Hurd, "General, would you be able to warn him?"

"I currently have several dozen heavily armed men out searching, so I'll tell them to tell him".

Ariana nodded. “Trust me you’ll need them!” She yawned.

“Okay, she needs rest,” Winters announced. She looked at Liam, “I can show you somewhere to wait until Doctor Corrigan is out of surgery...”

“Yeah, I’m not moving till I know Carolyn is alright,” he nodded.

Turning to walk out the door, Hurd paused and said aloud to everyone in the room, "You had better hope I don't catch him personally, because if I do I am going to beat him to death with my bare hands, that you can count on".

"General...Dad...wait!" She looked towards Hurd. She was hoping he'd stay not that she could expect him to. "Do you have to go?"

"Yes, the Lieutenant has to be caught or dies, preferentially he dies by my hands".

Ariana was about to put up an argument until she saw Winters face. Instead she lay back quietly to try and get the rest she needed.

Hurd walked out of the room, vengeance and fury filling him. In his heart he had already decided the Leiutenant would die, weather caught by him personally or not.

Glancing at her patient, Cadet Winters rolled her eyes and hoped she wasn’t about to end her fledgling career as she called on one of the doctors to watch over Ariana and hurried out after the general. “General Hurd!” She called out, having to run to catch up and step in front of him.

“Sir, I understand you want to personally make this man pay for what he did, I really do. And I hope your people find him quickly, lock him up and throw away the key. But being judge, jury and executioner is not right. And right now, however, you are needed in there.”

When she finished speaking she swallowed hard, dreading how he would react even as she stepped aside. She couldn’t make him do anything, she could only say what she felt had to be said.

General Hurd Hurd shook with fury. Fixing his gaze on the cadet, he said, "And who's going to stop me, you?"

"Of course not," the cadet replied with a firm shake of her head. "I am just making sure you know your daughter needs you. And it isn't to get revenge, General. But do what you have to do. I need to get back."

Without another look the cadet almost ran back into sickbay, realising she had probably just got herself on the wrong side of a general. Trying to not give in to a full blown panic attack she took a deep breath, put on her best fake smile and headed back to Ariana.

Standing stock still for a moment, Hurd felt the fury within him subside, but only by a tiny fraction of an inch. Against his better judgement, Hurd turned and walked back to sickbay, still paused beyond holy hell.

Back in Sickbay Ariana was trying to rest, she had the comfort of knowing Liam was nearby as she closed her eyes but she really wanted her father right now. She would have asked for Cameron but she didn't want to drag him into the middle of this although she needed him. Seeing the cadet enter Sickbay she waved her over. “Would you call Cameron Wayne for me please? Ask him to come here.”

Chloe gave a simple nod, heading towards the computer terminal. She could have placed the call to whoever this person was from anywhere, but she wanted to settle her nerves a little. Sending a brief message on behalf of the counsellor she returned to monitoring her vital signs, not wanting to make a mess of the one job she had been given to do.

Cameron was up to his elbows in the bowls of the shuttle he was working on when the message came in. It was only the fact that he had assigned a special chime to incoming messages from sickbay that made him stop working. "Hey O'Malley take over for me I need to go to sickbay and take care of something." Said Cameron he extracted himself from the shuttle and was gliding across the floor toward the door.

"Sure thing boss hope nothing is wrong with your lady." Said O'Malley with a chuckle

It took only a few minutes for cameron to enter the main sickbay "Where is Lt. Monroe." Asked Cameron as calmly as he could though inside he was anything but calm and she had better not be hurt or there would be all manner of hell to pay.

“She is right this way,” Chloe assured him as she came forward to meet him. “If you can, try to keep her as calm as possible...”

Tears came to Ariana’s eyes as she saw Cameron approaching her bed. Holding out her hand she gripped his as soon as he was beside her. “Thank you Cameron!” She just wanted to blurt out the whole story but she knew that would only end up with Winters sedating her to keep her calm.

"Beloved I do not need to know everything right now that will come later and in private what I need to know right now is are you are alright and who is responsible for you being in here." Said Cameron as he held her hand in a soft but strong grip.

Ariana nodded as she gripped Cameron’s hand. “We’re okay now you’re here. His name is Andrew Ignatious, my father has people out looking for him now.” She lay her head as close as she could get to the edge of the biobed by Cameron, right now she just wanted to feel safe.

When he came in Cameron was determined to get the name and then hunt the person down and eliminate what he precieved as a threat to his family. Now though he was conflicted. He could feel that she was relaxing with him being here. His head was telling him to stay where he was and let the marines deal with this person his heart though was telling him that he should find the man and show him what a forcefield could do when it presses a human between a bulk head and shield itself. "Beloved if you ask me to stay I will stay if you ask me to find this person and make him hurt I will gladdly do so. the choice is yours to make." Said Cameron softly

Ariana gripped Cameron's hand tightly. "Please don't go! If you go after him either he'll kill you or you'll kill him, either way I lose you!! I couldn't stand to lose you!" She gently moved back on the biobed motioning for Cameron to sit on so she could cuddle up on him. "Stay here with me, please!"

"Ariana for you I will stay though if your father can not get this person well you have not seen everything me and this chair can do." Said Cameron ~ I might not hurt him but I can sure scare him. wander how he would like a sonic boom an inch from his head~ Thought cameron as he adjusted his hoverchair closer to the biobed

Ariana smiled. "Right now I just want to forget about it." She waited for Cameron to move as close as he could get holding onto his hand, her head resting against his arm. She looked up as the doors opened and her father walked back in. "General...Father...." She looked at Cameron then back at Hurd. "This is Cameron Wayne."

"I am sorry sir that I do not stand to great you." Said Cameron from his chair by ariana's biobed. He wanted to make a good impression and this situation was not the best to meet his future father in law.

Standing still just inside the door, Hurd said, "At ease". He then fell silent, fury still blazing in his eyes.

“I didn’t think you’d come back in” Ariana looked at her father. “Cameron is my boyfriend, he’s also the father of your grandchild.”

Arching his eybrow, Hurd said gruffly, "I See".

“It’s a long story!” Ariana yawned. “Right now I need some sleep” She held onto Cameron’s hand almost afraid to let go.

"I'll be stationing a guard, both inside and outside this room until further notice." "This, by the way, is nonnegotiable".

Ariana offered a more relaxed smile as she looked at her father. “Thank you.” She offered Cameron a smile as she rested her head back and closed her eyes for a little while.

Allowing Dr Wilson to take over from her, Chloe headed towards the man who had come in with them. "Liam, right?" she asked as she approached him. When he nodded she smiled, "I am Cadet Winters, one of the medical students. Why don't I show you somewhere you can wait and get you something to drink? I should really ask though, are you injured?"

"No, no, I'm fine," he assured her, waving away the concern. "I just want to be sure they are."

"The counsellor will be fine, I'm sure. And Dr Mendez is an excellent surgeon so Dr Corrigan is in good hands," Chloe promised. "Come on, you can wait through here."

As she led him away the cadet looked back, catching Monroe's eyes and flashing her a reassuring smile before the student disappeared out of sight.
