Mission:
Episode 98 - A Raid on Peace
Location: Cameron's Quarters
Timeline: Flashback - The previous evening
Ariana had waited for Cameron to finish his day at work before deciding to drop by his quarters to see him, she didn't have any specific reason in mind just the urge to visit the man who'd recently asked her to be his girl. He'd made her feel so special that she couldn't wait to see him again. As she arrived at his door she pressed the chime and waited for him to answer.
"Come in." Said Cameron he had just gotten out of the shower and had thrown on a pair of paints and his anti gravity belt. Needless to say he was not expecting any visitors as he stood hovering about two feet off the floor on his way to his chair.
Walking inside Ariana looked at Cameron with a warm smile. “Hey there, I hope you don't mind me dropping by unannounced, I kind of...couldn't wait to see you again!" She blushed as she smiled.
"I seem to remember that feeling when I first showed up at your quarters on the Pegasus over Cardassia. " Said Cameron with a chuckle "SO what other then my charming personality what brings you to my humble abode." He added as he got them both a glass of the fruit juice that they had happened across on their last mission.
“Actually I...” She paused for a moment. “As silly as it sounds I was lonely!” She shrugged her shoulders. “Seems a daft thing to say I know!”
"Hope you do not mind but I baught a few cases of this before we left it was that good and I do not exactly trust the replicators to make it exactly right." Said Cameron as he handed her a glass before floating over to his chair and sitting down in the hoverchair.
“That’s just fine, thank you” She smiled. “I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to see you floating around your room, but it is nice to see how you do things when you’re at home.” She sipped her drink. “I hope you don’t mind me just popping by?”
"I do not mind in the least it is nice to have some company over that does not want to talk shop all the time." Said Cameron calmly as he situated himself in his chair.
Ariana smiled warmly. "Then I'm glad. If you don't mind me saying, it looked like you were suspended at about the height you would be if you had prosthetic legs. Am I right?"
"As to me floating around you are both right and wrong yes I am floating at the exact hieght I would have been had I had two good legs rather then just the stumps below the knee. Remember I told you I built my chair on my own. Well before I had the chair you see here I had an anti grav belt. If I could have figured out how to build a prostetic lower leg I would have but never could get more then a peg leg and I will NOT hobble around on a piece of wood." Said Cameron he did not really know why he was telling her all of this but it felt good to be able to tell someone some of the things he had been keeping secret for so long.
"Why would you have wooden legs?" Ariana looked at Cameron curiously. "Medical technology has come on in leaps and bounds you could have fully functioning realistic looking prosthetics by now, if you wanted them. Not that you have to, of course. To be honest I think you're amazing as you are, a shining beacon of determination for anyone whose gone through what you have."
"New Dakota the colony I grew up on was kinda a backwater colony we were at best probably 100 to 150 years behind the mainstream federation. Coupled with the fact that I had no idea how to make a prosthetic leg ment I would have to settle for either wood or metal and frankly I did not want that. so instead I found my work around and frankly I think I came off better for the situation. Now that I am away from the colony I have seen what the starfleet medical can do and it is impressive to be sure but to me it just seems almost to easy. Yes medical advancements are key but where is the line. " Said Cameron calmly as he got a thoughtful look in his eyes. "I will use myself as an example here ok. If my brothers had not played their cruel trick on me that caused me to lose my legs I would likely have never found the determination to overcome what many would and did consider a life ending handicap. I definately would not have left new dakota and started my own shop on earth and there would have been no chance of my ever having heard of SB 400 or meeting you. I got off topic I am sorry but it boils down to this. Would I be the same man I am now if I could just have walked in and said I wanted two new legs where is the challenge or the fight to overcome something when you are basicly handed a quick fix" He added
"It's one of the reasons why I like you Cameron. You have an amazing spirit and I'm happy to be your girlfriend." She smiled warmly taking the warmth of the moment to kiss him on the cheek. She pulled back just enough to be able to look in his eyes not wanting to seem too forward by kissing him on the lips unless he wanted her to.
Cameron blushed at the kiss "I like that but next time feel free to kiss me on the lips especially if I get to rambling." Said Cameron absently as he looked into what had to be the most captivating eyes in the entire quadrant he could easly get lost in them if given half a chance.
“Really?” Ariana looked at Cameron with surprise. “In that case...” She leant forward and gently kissed him on the lips, her hand gently rested on his cheek as she let it gently linger for a few moments before drawing back. “Was that better?”
"Okay whatever I did to deserve that I will have to remember to do it more often." Said Cameron softly "In answer to your question yes that was much better." He added softly
"I'm glad you liked it." Ariana smiled but couldn't help but blush. "I haven't done this in a long time! As for what you did, you were just charming you. You're an inspiration Cameron! After what you went through you proved everyone wrong and went on to have your own business and move here to this station to further your prospects!" She smiled. "I think you're amazing. I don't care if you're in that chair or not, I can't think of anyone I'd rather be with."
"Thank you for your vote of confidance. As much as I would like to continue this conversation I have an early day tomorrow and need to get some sleep." Said Cameron absently he would rather she stay longer but knew it would be both inapproprate and against his morals.
Ariana nodded. "Of course, I'll see you tomorrow maybe or if not let me know when you're available." She smiled one last time before heading on her way.
