Sickbay

A few minutes later, Kirk, Spock, and Bremer walked into Sickbay. "Bones? Nurse Chapel?" Kirk asked.

Ariana had been delayed in the corridor having found a crewman huddled in a corner who appeared to be finding the whole event a little too much for his first time out aboard a starship. It hadn't taken long to coax him out and put his mind to rest. Walking into sickbay she was surprised to see everyone there.

"What happened?" she looked at Hades.

As they finished speaking the warning Klaxons started sounding and McCoy started wildly flaying about his eyes wide open.

Hades rushed passed her and pulled a hypo from the wall. He looked at Nurse Chapel, "Readings?"

"His vital signs are erratic,” she responded with a calm that Hades didn’t feel.

He looked over at Bremer, “Hold on.” He said it a bit harsher then he intended. “Ten CCs of Asinolyathin.” He was working with prehistoric tools but at least most of the medications were the same.

One, two, three heartbeats passed and the doctor continued to seize. “Twenty-five CCs of Trianoline.”

Nurse Chapel’s eyes just about popped out of her head. “But that’s…for concussions.”

He sighed, “Damnit Christine I’m the doctor not some clown that walked in off the street.”

She eyed him a second and then administered the drug. McCoy calmed and slumped down. Hades turned to the men and woman assembled there shaking his head. “Christine continue monitoring. Gentlemen if you’ll step over with me.”

Kirk, Spock, Bremer, and Jackson walked over.

Hades sighed, “He asked me to administer a physical. He had been feeling poorly. It seems he’s been having issues ever since some sort of science lab accident. It seems he had a Gliomatosis cerebri and he didn’t know whatever happened triggered a progression at an alarming rate.

Ariana had been quietly monitoring what was happening with her Betazoid senses, she looked curiously at Hades as she walked over to where they were talking. "I'm sorry Doctor I'm not familiar with the term you used" she looked at Hades waiting for him to explain.

Hades looked over at Ariana as if he'd noticed her there for the first time. "Let me start at the beginning. McCoy told me he'd been having vision problems, weakness in his limbs trouble with vision and even language in the last while but it all became more...pronounced after the accident. Before he said he'd chalked it to stress but now he wasn't sure. I was just finishing my exam when he went into seizures and the symptoms combined where more then I could ignore." He took a breath.

This was the hard part. "He has a brain tumour for short but...it's in the center of the lobe. This kind of tumour usually infiltrates the brain with glial cells and it will affect various lobes." He let that all sink in.

Ariana nodded, "So what happens next?" she looked at Hades, "Is there something we can do to help him?"

Bremer glanced at Kirk, then pulled out his communicator. It looked like one you'd seen on the Enterprise in 2269, but was tied into Starbase 400's comm-channels, and encrypted. He didn't flip it open yet.

"Doctor, they know." Mike glanced back at Kirk for a moment. "Can Doctor McCoy be treated on the Station successfully?"

Hades sighed with relief, "Oh thank goodness. I thought I would be forced to treat him with primitive tools, yes I can guarantee his treatment can be done on the station and my new Assistant CMO is a great surgeon so I will need her assistance.

Ariana couldn't help but overhear that Kirk and his crew knew the truth so she didn't need to keep her heritage or abilities hidden anymore. "Is Doctor McCoy able to communicate for himself doctor?" she looked at Hades, "I guess what I'm asking is whether there's anything I can do to help him? If he's having any problems with language I can communicate telepathically with him, be his translator of a sort if needed."

Hades shook his head. "Not at this time. Right now it's key for me to get him to my sickbay.:

Nurse Chapel who'd come in partway through spoke up, "I wish to come with him."

Hades looked over at Bremer and Kirk he'd let them decide but he understood the bond between the two yet there was the show of technology that would stun the woman. He'd let the brass decide. "I have to move if he's going to be alright."

"It might be advisable to have someone there for Doctor McCoy when he wakes up Sir" Ariana looked at Christine and offered a smile before looking at Bremer & Kirk.

Hades already started mentally prepping what was needed. He'd need to bring in his assistant. He was grateful that an unexpected surgery had allowed him to observe her work and it was impeccable. "I'll go prep McCoy while you all decide." He exited and headed to check the readings and prep the equipment that they would need. They need a portable bed as McCoy was in no shape to transport.

Mike nodded. He was nervous about Nurse Chapel going and seeing some of the advanced Twenty-fourth century equipment and technology, but a life was at risk. He flipped open the communicator. “Bremer to Ops, we have a medical emergency aboard the Enterprise. We’re having to move a patient through the airlock to Sickbay 4 on Level 701 and we need a secured path. Have Commander Lokran see to it personally. Have any personnel and patents moved to the other Sickbays, except for Doctor Corrigan, have her standing by to assist Doctor Hades.”

A moment later, a reply came back. “Understood sir.”

Mike closed the communicator and put it back on his waist. He then stepped over and pushed the comm button on the wall by the door. “Sickbay to Bridge.”

“Bridge, Sulu here.”

“Mister Sulu, this is Admiral Bremer. Doctor McCoy has been injured and needs to be treated on the Station. If General Jackson is still there, ask him to meet us at the airlock.” Bremer said.

Kirk walked up beside Bremer, “Go ahead Mister Sulu.”

“Aye sir. Sulu out.”

Kirk pushed the comm button to close the channel, then looked back at Bremer. “I want Mister Spock to also accompany Bones and Nurse Chapel.”

Mike flashed a quick smile and nodded. He wasn’t worried about Spock disclosing anything he might see. “Alright. Once they’re in Sickbay, we’ll beam you over. Agreed?”

Kirk glanced at Spock, then nodded. He still didn’t fully trust Bremer. He was half Klingon and he had never trusted Klingons. However, he was part Human and he and his crew was helping Bones and the Enterprise. “The Admiral and I will go to the Briefing Room to look over damage control reports after Bones is aboard the Station.”

Mike nodded. “Alright, let’s get moving.” He looked over at Hades.

Ariana moved out of the way to allow McCoy to be moved, walking over to stand by Kirk & Bremer, she smiled as she looked at Kirk "I can sense you're concerned & worried but don't be Doctor McCoy is in good hands, if anyone can help him Doctor Hades can." she looked at Bremer, "Would you like me to stay or accompany Nurse Chapel Sir?"

“Perhaps you should accompany the Nurse and Mister Spock.” Mike replied.

Ariana nodded and joined Hades and the others as they headed for the station.

Hades checked all the equipment one more time and the slow transport of the patient began. Every bump was checked and rechecked and the walk was slow but he needed it to be.

They soon got to the airlock and headed to the sickbay. As they moved out of the airlock hades tapped his communicator which he'd managed to secure to his wrist on the way down. "Hades to Corrigan. I need you prepared and ready for surgery. We have a VIP. Make sure the surgical bay on 701 is cleared and all equipment is ready. We're doing brain surgery."

There was a brief pause before a single word filtered over the comm channel, "understood."

R'nard took over and made sure the way was clear. He issued orders that any modern devices would be out of sight so as not to contaminate the time stream. It was done before they came aboard.

“How long do you estimate you’ll need to operate on Doctor McCoy?” Ariana looked at Hades as she caught him up.

Hades sighed, "If all goes well about six hours."

“Might I suggest you allow nurse Chapel to join you. I know our technology is alien to her but if anything should...” she didn’t say it, “Then maybe it would be better if she were there for McCoy. I can keep Mr Spock company.”

"Absolutely not." He said. They would keep Spock and Chapel where they had the least amount of technology and that would be the family waiting room. He wouldn't expose the woman to techniques and technology that were foreign to her time. It would be contaminating the timeline. "They both wait in family room B. Nothing in there but a replicator."

Ariana nodded "Of course Doctor" she smiled as she turned to look at Spock and Chapel offering an understanding smile.

Hades lead the group into a secondary sterile white room with chairs and a replicator. He then headed straight for the OR. He could not mess up. This was one of those times where failure was not an option.

USS Enterprise Main Bridge

Earlier, Jackson elected to stay behind on the Bridge to talk to Sulu, who was more than willing to talk about different martial arts styles. Sulu, an accomplished fighter, was curious after the altercation earlier. Jackson was not sure how much about himself he should reveal to his idol, but much was revealed with Admiral Bremer's message. Raising an eyebrow in a way that would copy Spock's preferred expression, Sulu eyed Jackson after the channel was closed. "General Jackson?" Jackson was feeling a little awkward after the message as well. "Actually, Major General. But don't hold that against me." Jackson said with a wink. "To be continued," as Jackson entered the turbolift to meet Bremer's party.

Sulu sat in the Captain's chair perplexed. "My God, I sparred with a Flag Officer." Chekov shook his head with a smile, "You sure know how to pick them."

Chloe asked Sulu "what else needs to be repaired? she said.

Sulu answered, "You can work on the Science 2 console, if you would like." Sulu paused for a few seconds. "Would it be permitted for you to tell me what General Jackson does for a living? I have heard of marines, but never knew what they do."

USS Enterprise Briefing Room

Once Doctor Hades was on his way with Doctor McCoy and Jackson was escorting Spock, McCoy, and Monroe, Kirk and Bremer arrived in the Enterprise’s Briefing Room. Mike looked around the room for a moment.

“You don’t have briefing rooms in the twenty-fourth century? Kirk sarcastically asked, then flashed a smirk.

“Of course we do, but they do look a little different.” Mike smirked back. “Actually, I was allowing myself to be in awe for a moment. This is the Enterprise, she’s a legend. As are you and your crew.” He’d said too much, but continued for a moment before catching himself. I have a picture in my quarters of Walter from 2268 I believe, in the briefing room of the Pegasus while assigned to patrolling along the Romulan Neutral Zone.”

A Yeoman came in, sat down a pot of coffee and a few cups, nodded respectfully to Kirk and left. Kirk changed the subject as he pouring a cup of coffee “You said on the Bridge you’re half Klingon.”

Mike didn’t want, or need to say more, but, he also wanted to try to gain Kirk’s respect and set his mind at ease. “I am. My father was Klingon. My mother was half Human and half Vulcan.”

Kirk took another sip as Mike sat down. Mike looked around the room again, then as he looked back at Kirk, the Captain handed him a cup of coffee. “Well, making Fleet Admiral at your age, that’s quite an accomplishment.”

“Thank you.” Mike replied, for the coffee and the compliment.

“I don’t trust Klingons, I’m not sure I ever will, but maybe there’s hope for our peoples in the future.” Kirk added.

Mike knew of Kirk’s run ins with the Klingons. Organia, K-7, and what was to come for him on Genesis, Gorkon’s murder and his imprisonment on Rua Penthe. Not to mention Kirk’s own son’s murder at the hands of Klingons on Genesis. He understood Kirk’s hate, now and to come, and in some ways it bothered Mike he couldn’t say or do anything to make it better. He was already concerned that they had already damaged the timeline.

After another sip, Kirk pressed the comm button. “Mister Scott, please report to the Briefing Room. Bring along the engineers from the starbase too. Kirk out.” He looked at Mike for a moment. “Well, since we’re in the briefing room, we might as well get an update on the repairs to the ship.” Kirk flashed a smile and Mike returned it.

"Aye sir, we're on our way," Scotty acknowledged. Down in Engineering, he turned to both Solomon and AmHain. "Well laddies, it looks like we need to go and uphold out miracle worker job titles in front of the Captains."

Chuckling to himself, Jack put the tool down that he was finished with. "Well that's the final Sensor Pallet re-route complete, you should be fine til you get back to Earth," he confirmed. "Besides, its always good to remind the brass of how invaluable you are." Making their way out of Engineering and to the nearest Turbolift, the three of them disembarked on the deck where the Briefing Room was located and made their way in.

Jewel had let Deela know where she was going, the walked off the bridge to the briefing room. Once she arrived she entered. "Excuse me, Admiral, I figured you might need me. Hope you don't mind me just coming." Jewel said as she stood by the door looking at Mike, Kirk, and Spock.

"Reporting as ordered sir," Jack answered.

"I tell ya, Captain, these boys have worked both hard and fast!" said Scotty. "I've never known Starbase Personnel like these two...hell I could request a transfer," he admitted.

"Captain, we've patched in the replacement power flow regulators for the Sensor Arrays and installed the required replacement overflow compensators to the Impulse Engines. We've also re-aligned the matrix sequencers so that they will operate within nominal parameters," Jack explained before taking a breath.

"To add that the Shield Generators have successfully received replacement overflow compensators but the system will need a full overhaul soon," he finished looking at both Bremer and Kirk.

"Very good work, everyone." Mike replied.

"Yes indeed, especially since you've impressed Scotty. Kirk added. "Sounds like the Enterprise is ready to power up and depart."

Mike nodded, "I would suggest you allow one of our tugs to tow the Enterprise out of the bay before powering up sensors, communications, and engines. Our report from our science team suggests we can't duplicate the experiment and guarantee the same results from the chronometric particles as before however there's another method to get you to the right time."

"Right time?" Scotty asked.

"Slingshot around a star." Kirk replied. "We've done it before."

"I've had Mister Fintel provide the calculations to Mister Chekov." Mike replied.

"I'll have Mister Spock look over them when he returns with Bones." Kirk said.

"Returns with Doctor McCoy? Wha' in the bloody hell is goin on Cap't'n?" Scotty asked.

Mike glanced at Solomon and gave a reassuring nod, "Mister Solomon, clear your team from the Enterprise."

"Pull up a chair Scotty and we'll fill you in." Kirk added.

Solomon suddenly realised that the secret they were trying to keep from the Enterprise crew was now out in the open. He looked over at AmHain and nodded to the doors. "We're leaving..." He said quietly as they left the room and headed for the nearest Turbolift.

Once at the Turbolift, Jack called for it to head down to the same deck as the Docking collar so that they could make their way back to the Station. "It sounds likes our little secret is out," he said to AmHain

Starbase 400, Ops

R'nard had been 'minding the store at SB 400 and was pacing the Ops station. So far, nothing had happened and he was listening for anything. He hadn't received any messages from the away team on the Enterprise and was starting to get worried.

USS Enterprise Main Bridge

Deela was looking around the bridge as she listened to the sounds the bridge made. She closed her eyes for a moment. She opened her eyes as she could feel Uhura's eyes upon her. Uhura was curious about her but didn't want to ask her any questions.

Deela turned around. When Uhura saw her turn, she quickly turned her attention back to the panel. Deela decided that answering the question that Uhura had wouldn't change history. She walked over to her, "To answer your question, my father is Vulcan and my mother is part Betazoid and human thus why the black irises." Deela gave her a smile, "Does that satisfy your curiosity?"

Uhura looked at her with a puzzled look, "How did you, I mean, did you read my mind or something?"

Deela laughed, "No, it is just that Spock was wondering the same thing. And since Betazed hasn't joined the federation as of yet, you would not have any idea why my eyes look the way they do."

Uhura nodded, "I see. You aren't stoic like Spock although he can show emotion once in awhile."

"My father trained in the Vulcan way but my mother taught me to embrace my Betazoid heritage. You can say that I have the best of both worlds. With that said, I will leave you to what you were doing." Deela walked away, knowing that Uhura had more questions that she couldn't answer. There wasn't much more that she could do so she decided to go take a self tour around the Constitution class ship.

Chloe continued to make repairs to science station 2 she had to be careful with the repairs she also answered Sulu's question "I have no idea i'm not in the Marines I chose the Chief flight control Officer "she said. Admiral Bremer told Chloe to return to starbase 400 before the Enterprise went back to her time. she turned to Admiral T'Lar " Admiral Bremer has recalled us to return to SB 400" she reminded Deela.

She entered the docking port before the enterprise left sb 400 minutes later she was off the enterprise and back on sb 400 she felt privileged to be a part of the away team to help make repairs to the flagship of the fleet she would remember this day.she wished Nathaniel was with her on this mission .

USS Enterprise Briefing Room

Some time had passed, but finally they had word McCoy was going to be okay. Spock and Chapel were bringing McCoy back aboard the Enterprise, so Mike and Kirk left the Briefing Room to meet them at the air lock.

There, they also met K'Temoc who had escorted them back to the Enterprise. "The ion storm is clear of the area. We've set up a damping field around the station to prevent the Enterprise from getting scans of the station...apologies Captain." K'Temoc said with a smirk toward Kirk.

Kirk smirked back. "I take it you're Federation President since you have on Captain bars?"

K'Temoc looked at his arm, he wasn't used to the twenty-third century uniform he'd thrown on.

"Actually, he's my brother, a Vice Admiral. James Bremer, Captain James T. Kirk."

Kirk nodded.

"I have agreed with the Vice Admiral here that the Enterprise will only use navigational sensors once we depart. I've also agreed to purge all records of his incident from the Enterprise computers." Spock added.

"Computer failure from the accident?" Kirk asked.

"Indeed." Spock replied.

Kirk looked back at Bremer, "Thank you to you and your crew for your assistance."

"It was our honor, and pleasure Captain." Mike replied.

"Jim...call me Jim." Kirk replied with a flash of a smile. "Mister Spock, if we're ready, inform Mister Sulu we'll be departing."

"I have a tug ready to tow the Enterprise clear." K'Temoc replied.

"Actually, I have another idea." Mike said.

A few minutes later, Bremer was on the Bridge of the Enterprise. Kirk in the Captain's chair, Spock at Science, Scotty standing to Kirk's side, beside the Bridge Engineering station, and the rest of the Bridge crew at their positions.

"The starbase has cleared us Captain." Sulu stated.

"Policy says ships should remain at thrusters when departing, but I usually proceed at one-quarter impulse. It's a straight, clear shot." Mike added with a smile as he stood just behind Kirk and to the right.

"Alright Mister Sulu, one quarter impulse. Take us out." Kirk ordered.

A moment later, the Enterprise emerged from Starbase 400's internal bay, clearing the space doors.

"Prepare to move us into position for a slingshot around the Kaleb sun. Mister Spock and I will be in the transporter room." Kirk ordered as he, Spock, and Bremer left the bridge.

Once in the transporter room, Mike walked over to the transporter controls and programmed in coordinates to beam him back to Starbase 400's Ops.

"Thank you for that Captain." Kirk nodded.

Mike walked back around the control panel and stood between Kirk and Spock, looking at Kirk. "There's a lot of space still out there, and while I wish I could say it's been all peaceful between your time and mine, I can say it has been an adventure. The example you set, the lessons you learned and taught are still helping the Federation today. It has been an honor meeting some of my childhood heroes." He reached out to shake Kirk's hand.

Kirk gave a respectful nod as he shook Bremer's hand, then smirked, "From a half Klingon, I take that as a compliment."

"You should." Mike replied with a smile as Spock raised an eyebrow.

Spock walked around to the transporter controls as Mike stepped onto the pad.

"Energize Mister Spock."

A moment later, Mike was standing in Ops on Starbase 400. All of the senior officers, as everyone else that had been aboard the Enterprise watched the ship move deeper into the Kaleb system, then go to warp, accelerating toward the Kaleb sun before disappearing from sensors.

Mike let out a breath, "I need to get out of his uniform, I don't know how they stood it." He looked over at Gillo. "Advise all ships in the area that the Kaleb system and Starbase 400 are reopened to inbound and outbound traffic again."

As everyone turned from the viewer and started to head for the turbolifts, a beep came from Tactical and Operations stations.

"Admiral, there's an Excelsior class ship dropping out of warp, it's the USS Sampson. They're a fast courier ship and signal they have a delivery for you sir, by name." Archer reported.

A few minutes later, a small package was beamed into Ops. It was dusty, like it had been in storage for a while. There was also a PADD on top, obviously newer than the package itself. Mike picked up the PADD, it was from Starfleet Academy, telling him Becca and K'Wor were to report back to the Academy to complete their senior year and they had earned their credits for their midshipman cruise aboard Starbase 400. The package on the other hand included a data tape from the mid twenty-third century. Mike looked at the yellow tape for a moment, then walked over to the science station which had an input slot for old data tapes like this. He inserted it and after a few seconds Captain Kirk and Mister Spock appeared on screen. Kirk expressed his thanks again to the Starbase 400 crew and let them know they had returned to their own time with minimal difficulty, as well as saying they had purged all data about Starbase 400 from the Enterprise's databanks.

Within the package were mementos from the Enterprise crewmembers to the members of station's crew they had worked with. It also included a note from Ambassador Saavik saying she received the package from Spock before his last trip to Romulus and promised to have it delivered to Starbase 400 on this stardate.

Mike looked around Ops at his crew, many of them admiring the gifts they had received. "Good work everyone. Very good work."
