Mission: Episode 95 - Helping Old Friends
Location: Medbay
Timeline: Day 10

Ariana was drifting in and out of sleep, her dreams were filled with the nightmare of losing her remaining baby even though she'd been assured that her surviving baby was strong & doing well. She opened her eyes as she felt someone taking hold of her hand & leaning over to brush her hair away from her face.

"Hey..." she smiled as she saw Marcus standing beside her he had that worried look on his face she'd seen earlier.

Marcus had in fact slept and ate the entire time she was in recovery. The whole thing had exhausted him and he didn't look at smart as he did when he had picked her up from her work.

She was wondering from the way he looked whether he'd even left Medbay while she was being taken care of. "Have you been here the whole time?"

"Yes." he responded calmly.

"Then you already know..." she sat quiet for a moment before the tears started to roll down her face.

He stood up and sat down on the bed next to her. "Yes. I know." he didn't know what to say or do. All he could do was sit there and offer her his support.

She lay her head on Marcus' shoulder just his presence was enough to help her, as much as her children weren't his now they were together as a couple she felt he was as much a parent to her babies as she was. "At least...." she wiped her eyes as she looked up at Marcus, ".... I still have my other baby."

"Yes and we will make sure he or she will grow up to a fine young man or woman." he stroked her hair.

Ariana managed a smile, "Thank you Marcus, I don't know if I'd cope without you."

"I know you would. You are a very strong woman and I know even from this tragedy, you would rise again from the ashes. Like a Phoenix." he smiled. "I think that is a nice nickname. Perhaps I should name my fighter that and you know that it's referring to you?"

Ariana nodded "I'd like that"

"It's settled then." he smiled.

"Can I see it once it's been put on your fighter?" she tried to sit a little more comfortably, "Could you grab me another pillow please?"

"Yes of course. I must ask permission to do so first, I can't just paint what ever I want on the fighter." he found a new pillow and helped her to sit up better as he placed the pillow behind her. "Hows that?"

"Much better, thank you" she rested herself against the pillows, "I owe the medical staff more than I can say for saving us" she placed her hand on her stomach, "I also owe you more than I can say for helping me."

"You owe me nothing. I can't let you bleed out can I?"

"I know it sounds silly thanking you but I have to" she motioned for him to sit down on the edge of her bed beside her. "Just... hold me please."

He moved up the bed a little so that he could sit right next to her, he didn't get much room but it was enough. "I will not go anywhere for a while."

"Thank you" she lay herself gently against him as best as she could, just having him there to hold her made her feel less afraid of anything else going wrong even though she'd been told everything would now be alright.

Marcus sighed as he stroked her hair. He couldn't imagine how she was feeling right now.

Lying against him as his hands stroked her hair Ariana couldn't help but think all kind of harsh thoughts, whether there was something she could have done to prevent what had happened? what would Jonathon have said if he were here with her now? how was she going to explain to her remaining baby when he or she was old enough about the sibling he or she never knew. She held onto Marcus as tears started to roll down her face her emotions were a mess and she had a feeling they'd be that way for sometime to come.

Hades had followed Rol's advice...a little. He'd had a nap and he rested. He didn't rest the whole day but Rol was a counselor and Hades outranked him so tough. He had heard about Ariana. Before going to check on Braxton and the troubling bit Lai'lira had told him about he stopped to check on Ariana Monroe. He'd never met the woman but she was the chief counselor and when he'd reviewed her file he knew she'd gone through hell. He'd reviewed the treatment in detail and was quite surprised at Braxton's innovation. He wasn't one for herbs but this did the job.

Hades entered the room seeing Ariana embracing a man who sat by her. He couldn't see her face clearly yet. "My apologies for intruding. I'm the CMO. Doctor Hades."

Ariana lifted her head wiping away the tears that were left on her cheeks, she offered the best smile she could as she re-gathered her emotions. "It's nice to meet you Doctor" she looked at Marcus, "this is Marcus Mattson."

Hades felt utterly frozen. He stared slack jawed at Ariana. "Nicole?" His question was more confused then anything. She was Nicole in stature, in eyes, in all but hair and ears. Then it filtered through that Braxton had been here when he should have. He'd been off station but Braxton had been fighting to save a woman that was a dead ringer for his dead wife and twins...He had to check on Braxton alright.

"No I'm afraid not but I do understand your confusion Doctor" Ariana smiled politely "I owe Braxton a great deal & I understand why he's finding hard to be around me" she looked at Marcus knowing she'd have to explain in private another time. "Is he okay?"

"I haven't seen him yet." Hades seemed to find his voice. He shook himself out of his shock. "Apologies I was caught off guard." He walked up to Ariana's bed and pulled up the panel checking her stats. "Well it seems like things are fine now. Your baby's heart beat is strong. Your hormones are leveling out as they should be and your blood pressure is slowly returning to normal." He picked up a tricorder and did a manual scan. "Now how are you feeling?"

"Much better physically" she squeezed Marcus' hand "mentally.... if I'm honest I'm a mess I know this wasn't my fault but that's how it feels. First I lost my husband now another piece of him is gone." She massaged her temples her control of her senses was being severely over ridden by her emotions.

Hades let out a breath, "It is not your fault. You couldn't have known about your blood type or the process. It is the fault of your previous CMO, whom I will be speaking to and then about to Starfleet command. He should have been better able to take a preventative measure not that it was guaranteed. It still could have happened. Miscarriages, specifically in the first trimester are common in Humans but more so in Betazoids. None of this is your fault but me telling you that doesn't make you feel better. May I suggest a visit to Lieutenant Rol?"

Ariana nodded "I guess even Counsellors need counselling from time to time. I'll do that, might I ask when I'll be able to leave sickbay? I'd like to go back to my quarters."

Marcus sounded off this time, his mechanical arm was resting gently on her stomach. "Doc, I am emencily grateful for what you did for her." the young cadet offered his right hand to the man. "I also will let her stay in my quarters so I can look out for her if that makes it easier for her."

Ariana smiled at Marcus she was grateful hed offered to let her stay in his quarters.

Hades smiled, "I would prefer to keep you until this evening but after that I comfortable releasing you to your young man." He smiled. "I'll let you two finish visiting." He gave a nod and then headed out. He had to see Brax.

Ariana smiled "Thank you Doctor Hades" she smiled and turned her attention back to Marcus as Hades left the room. "Thank you for that are you sure you don't mind me staying in your quarters? I don't want to be in the way.

Marcus ached an eyebrow. "Were you in the way on the Falcon?" he asked as if the answer was obvious.

"No but then you wouldn't have complained if I was" she smiled, "roll on this evening, I just want to get out of here now."

He smiled. "We have far more room now. You can take the bed and I can sleep in the sofa if that makes you feel better. And you have full access to the water shower as well." he smiled at her. "But you should wait a little while. I wouldn't want to risk the other child. We can go on our date later."

“Agreed” she yawned as she was starting to feeling tired, “...but I want to be able to cuddle up with you sometime”

"Naturally." he smiled happily.

“Good” she lay her head back on the biobed as she slowly started to fall asleep.

Marcus sighed as he stroked her hair, he waited a long time before he decided he might as well try and get some shuteye.
