Personal History | Marcus was born in southern sweden on Earth, his family were farmers and supplied a great deal of the natural food that was in demand for the more exclusive restaurants. His parents appalled the replicator when it came to food, saying nothing compares with the love and care of something that was grown from seed to the plate. Marcus agreed of course and spent much of his youth helping around the farm when not in school. But his true passion was flying over the fields to check on the crops, even joining his father in the deliveries of the high quality food. Another one of his passions came from music, his mother had an extensive collection of old school records like CD's, 8-tracks and LP's. Often taking the 8-track with him when flying. His absolute favorite music was Queen and Bruce Springsteen. His farm also had an elderly asian man who aided with caring for the horses. This man decided to teach a very young Marcus in the ways of ancient Martial arts. The practice of Wing Chun took very well to Marcus, learning that facing force with force was often just as damaging to you as it was the opponent if not more so. So the practice to think outside the box to deflect and redirect was spread in to his way of thinking when he would fly in the future. At the age of 18, the young man enlisted in Starfleet. Much to his father's disapproval. His mother managed to talk his father into letting him go. =Academy= Marcus enlisted as a marine pilot, flying fast and hard was what he loved the most. But the difference from the civilian shuttle and the training fighters were vastly different so the first time he were in the pilot seat alone, he crashed the fighter in to the ground. The crash was so violent that it knocked him out for several minutes even with the advanced safety features. After waking up, the smell of burning and the pain all the way down his left side was the only thing he could focus on. It wasn’t long before he realized that his left arm had been crushed under the console after the fighter had buried it’s nose deep in the dirt. The sound of burning and the smoke were getting more intense, not to mention the increase of heat. He made a decision, using his field knife he cut off his arm by the shoulder and managed to escape the wreckage. Only to collapse not far in the dirt from shock and blood loss. At the hospital, Marcus where nearly expelled from the academy for his reckless maneuver. The expulsion would only come into effect after he had recovered so he had a chance to put up a defense for his action. But during his time recovering the instructors learned that the injury hadn’t implanted a fear for flying, in fact it had proved a fuel to learn more about flying. This lead to the lessening of his sentence, he wasn’t expulsion but he was banned to fly without an instructor until they were confident he had learned the craft. His time at the academy were a mix of boring marine studies and training. Classes he didn’t care much for but did because he needed to. But his flying classes he were fully committed and was one of the top flyers in the class. |
