Hades finished his errand and returned to sickbay. He went straight to Shrivol's office.
Shrivol was splashing water on his face trying to figure out what to say. He heard Hades 'Just say it you coward.' He told himself before walking out. "Doctor..." he cleared his throat nervously. "I think we need to talk about what's been going on."
"What's been going?" He genuinely looked confused. "With the Romulans?"
Shrivol looked at Hades as though he'd been insulted, he wasn't sure how to continue how to confess. "Yeah...the Romulans and the kids, as well as setting boundaries on the crew and..." Shrivol paused as he kept avoiding the subject. "...how they can treat the medical staff."
Hades smiled. "Okay well the Romulans are fine for the most part. Nurse have the Hurd family in hand. Boundaries on the crew in terms of how they treat medical staff? Well let's be honest we are not their favorite people. To them they use us when they need us and then try to avoid us."
Shrivol just stared at his desk, he already knew everything Hades just said. He wanted to bank his head on the disk, hell he wanted to have a hot cup of coffee dumped on his back again. He would take anything to get him to tell Hades what he desired to tell him. "Thanks." Shrivol said in a low tone. "I...guess we just have the schedules then. Any requests for time off?"
Hades smiled. "Not particularly. I'm glad t have Raya here though and she's pretty enthusiastic about working with us so I think that we can keep it loose. I did however get a couple of nurse requests who wanted to switch shifts." He slid a PADD over to Shrivol. "Here are their requests. How are you doing...I mean muscle wise. Any flair ups?" He asked concerned.
"Always." he said studying the PADD. Shrivol accepted his condition and lately he had been having more problems and had increased his medication. "But I'll live."
"Have you though about physio therapy?" He asked.
"Sometimes. My condition is one reason I joined the swim team." Shrivol replied "I welcome suggestions."
"Massage therapy and then there is muscle stretching. If you want I can book you in for either or both."
"Yeah. I will see if that helps thank you." Shrivol was in a hole and couldn't dig himself out. "I might actually go to the holodeck soon and get a massage that probably will help." he said as he started to stand up, pain showed in his face and he was having a bit of trouble, he sat back down. "Damn it."
Hades was up and over by Shrivol in a flash. "Shrivol!" He knelt by the chair and placed his hand on Shrivol's shoulder. "What was your last does?"
"20cc." He said feeling pain but feeling ecstatic at Hades hand placement. "I'm fine." he said trying to hold back how much he was in pain.
"You are not telling the truth. Stay here. He went out into the sickbay and came back with a hypo. Hades knelt down by Shrivol again and gently cupped his cheek while he administered they hypo to Shrivol's neck. The hypo hissed slowly as the dose went in. "Do you want me to help you to your quarters?"
Shrivol looked into Hades eyes, every fiber of his being told him to tell Hades 'no' ultimately he resisted. "I think I will need help." He said trying not to admit it. "I think I can just have them beam me in." He felt as though his legs were on fire.
"Let's go." He helped Shrivol stand. "Lean on me." He called for the transport and when they were in Shrivol's quarters he looked around. "Sofa or room?"
"Sofa." Shrivol said struggling with the pain. In a moment they beamed into Shrivol's quarters in his living room. Shrivol flopped down on the couch. He felt helpless. He thought back to the braces he wore as a small child and how this almost kept him out of Starfleet Academy, he also felt closer to Hades for some reason. There was something about his tone, his demeanor and his touch that electrified Shrivol. "Thanks, if you want you can grab a drink for the trouble." He said with a smirk.
"No I'm good but let me get you something." Hades went over got some finger foods from the replicator and some water and a cup of coffee. He set on the coffee table and moved the table closer. He found a blanket on the back of the soft and spread it over Shrivol. He knelt by the sofa. "Here is second pillow to help you prop up. Let me know if you need anything." He gently lifted Shrivol's head and fit the second pillow behind him and then laid him back down. Their eyes locked and a jolt shot through Hades.
Shrivol was entranced by Hades, he stared into his eyes and couldn't turn away, he also felt himself getting closer physically to Hades. Shrivol's heart beat faster, he never felt this way before and he wasn't sure if he'd ever feel this way again. Shrivol instinctively licked his lips as Hades brought him closer.
Hades' heart hammered in his chest. Was it just him or was Shrivol getting closer...was.....was he trying to kiss him? His own lips felt dry. He bit his lower lip his breathing becoming laboured. Was this happening? Was Shrivol about to kiss him or was he about to kiss Shrivol? He gasped and pulled back. "I...I should go. You're okay right?" He stood and put some distance between them.
Shrivol landed with a thud against the couch. "I'm fine...thanks again." when he truly wanted to say 'I like you, you fool'.
"Great! Okay! That's Great Shri....Shrivol!" He turned. "I'll just go back to work. Work is good!" He ran out of the quarters as if chased by the hounds of hell. Once safely inside the lift he leaned against the wall. That didn't just happen. We didn't just almost kiss. It was my imagination and I totally need a whisky.
Shrivol stayed on the couch and shouted "What the hell just happened?" He was angry, angry at himself and angry at the situation. He started questioning if he truly was destined to suffer in never knowing if he could be with Hades. He felt the pain intensify and he just lied there looking at the stars.
Hades returned to sickbay on shaky legs. "What the hell just happened?" He asked as he went in shaking his head. This was crazy. Shrivol had absolutely no interest in him. He was overworked, and....he'd go with that, it was the only thing he could think of.
