Mission: Episode 92 - More Questions than Answers
Location: Starbase 400, Bremer's Office
Timeline: MD5 1100a

ON:

This is the Starbase, designated 400. In orbit of Kaleb IV in the Beta Quadrant, Starbase 400 is home to nearly two hundred thousand souls, most from the Federation...Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, Bajorians, Bolians, Caitians, Capellians, Betazoids...as well as several non-Federation species too. Our job is to be a home for the fleet and defend the Federation. My Executive Officer is Admiral T’Lar, the boss is Fleet Admiral Sevlek the Beta Quadrant Commanding Officer, my name’s Bremer. I wear a comm-badge.

It was early in the morning and warm aboard the Station when I came on duty so I had repair techs checking on the environmental systems when I arrived on Level One, Ops.

Mike was in his office talking with his brother. He gave K’Temoc a hug. “I’m happy for you both.” Mike said.

“Thank you. I can’t believe I did it, I’ve never been so nervous in my life.” K’Temoc replied.

“That’s how you know it’s real.” Mike replied with a smile. “Did you set a date?”

“Not yet, we plan to discuss it soon, but right now we just want to enjoy our engagement.” K’Temoc replied.

Mike’s desk top computer beeped. He walked around to the other side of the desk to see the communication coming in. “There’s been another attempt on Martok’s life.”

“What happened?” K’Temoc asked as he walked over.

“On his way back to Kronos from Earth and the Alliance signing, two of the ships in his task force attacked his ship. His ship and Gorkon were able to destroy one and damage the other. Martok is fine, but upon returning to QonoS a third of the High Council declared Martok unfit to be Chancellor and broke away.” Mike said as he read the report.

“Civil War.” K’Temoc added.

“Looks that way. Starfleet wants us to stay out of it. They want additional ships patrolling the border, making sure any fighting doesn’t spill over.” Mike replied.

“I’ll let Jewel know, we’ll have some of Task Force Ninety-Nine’s ships move into the area.” K’Temoc advised.

Mike nodded as he tapped in a few commands. “General K’Vada just sent me a message, he and his ship are returning to Klingon space to assist the Chancellor but Ch'Tal sogh with remain here to continue on as a liaison.”

“Have you heard from Worf?” K’Temoc asked.

“No. The Warrior is currently in the Alpha Quadrant, assigned to proceed to DS9 and then for a mission to the Gamma Quadrant.” Mike replied.

“Are the separatists getting outside aid?” K’Temoc asked.

“Unknown, but doesn’t appear that way right now.” Mike replied.

“As members of the House of Martok, we should do something.” K’Temoc said.

“I agree, but as Starfleet Officers we have a duty too.” Mike replied.

“Perhaps, we can do both.” K’Temoc replied.

“What do you have in mind?” Mike asked.

“Martok and the High Council are the legitimate government and our allies, we should send them any data we have on separatist fleet movements, send medical supplies or other aid as needed, possibly have Starfleet ships act as escorts or patrol the Klingon border with the Romulans and Krazzle to make sure neither try to interfere or assist the separatists and so the Chancellor can pull more ships to put down the uprising.” K’Temoc replied.

Mike nodded, thinking. “We’ll work something up, but first we need to brief the Senior Staff. Send a message to Sevlek, T’Lar, Pike, Jewel, and Jackson to join us. Also alert all commands in the Ares Sector to go on Yellow Alert. We need to work up a friend of foe idea for loyal Klingon vessels too.”

K’Temoc nodded.

Jewel had gotten the message from Mike to report to Bremer's Office, she got up told David she was sorry to look after Jr. for awhile then kissed him. She had gotten quickly dressed in her uniform, left her hair down and walked out of their quarters.

She quickly made her way to Bremer's Office, after a good fifteen minutes she made it and entered she looked at both Mike and K'Temoc. "What's going on?" She asked as she looked at them.

When Jackson received the message to report to Bremer's Office, the Marine Threat Board in his office sounded a tone, and out of numbers through 5, the number three lit up in yellow. "Jackson to Division Staff Duty Officer, place the division to Condition 3." He made his way to Ops shortly after that. He nodded to everyone he recognized, and walked straight to Admiral Bremer, "Mike, my Threat Board just lit up like a Christmas tree."

Lee after finishing up some reports made his way over to Bremer's Office, seeing the Admiral he walked over towards him "So what do we have going on Admiral?"

Deela walked into Bremer's Office, looking a bit tired. She didn't ask anything, she just sat down and waited for Bremer to explain.

She saw Deela she walked a little ways and place a hand on her shoulder as if to ask if she was alright.

Deela quietly explained, "Brandon had trouble sleeping. He thinks that he is sensing emotions from people on the base. I tried to convince him that he isn't old enough yet to have those abilities but he does not believe me. Then Raivyn woke up and she would not go back to sleep. So I am a little sleep deprived."

"I am sorry Deela, if you like I can take the kiddos tonight so you can get some sleep." She offered as she looked at her while they waited.

Deela smile, "Thank you for the offer but I think we will be fine. Maybe i will take him to Dr. Hades and check him out."

She nodded, "Oh things are alright between David and I, where working things out." She stated quietly,

Deela was happy for her, "Oh good. I was worried that you would not work it out sensing how angry David was. I hope things continue going good for you."

Sevlek was already aware of the situation. He'd altered the assignments of nearly 200 starships to new patrol routes.

Mike explained the situation to everyone present. "I'm ordering all Commands in the Ares Operational Area to go on Yellow Alert and patrols along the border doubled. We're going to have relief supplies gathered on Inverness and Archanis to be sent to the legitimate Klingon Government as needed."

She looked at Mike, "I have gotten word the USS Cairo repairs are complete, they will be ready to depart, and ready for an assignment." Jewel replied looking at him. She then looked at K'Temoc where are some of Task Force ninety-nine ships located and could they respond when needed." Jewel asked K'Temoc.

K'Temoc nodded as Mike replied. "I want the Cairo to remain here for now to be deployed as needed. I also want the New Hampshire to try and wrap up their investigation along the Gorn border and get back up this way." Mike looked at Pike.

Lee spoke up "Maal has already spoken to his Father, the House of Torg have pledged their house to Chancellor Martok. It's already starting to get bloody from the sounds of it."

Sevlek knew his orders would displease someone, or many someones, "I am issuing standing orders to all of you, the same orders given to all ships operating near any potential areas where trouble could present itself. You are not to involve yourself with the internal affairs of the Klingon Empire." The Vulcan looked at Mike and K'Temoc, "Regardless of any familial bonds you may have with any House of the Empire. I understand your initial reactions may be to assist in any way possible," Sevlek's eyes met with Mike's, he was sure Bremer had already heard that Sevlek had offered assistance to Martok, with whom he had a personal relationship, "however, Chancellor Martok has informed the Federation President that no aid is required at the moment."

At some faces of concern he continued, "Starfleet Command and the Federation Council have issued orders disallowing interference in an internal matter by any agent of the Federation or Starfleet." Sevlek considered carefully whether or not to share the next piece of information, but did so anyway, "Officially, the Klingon Empire is stating that these separatists are acting alone. Unofficially, Starfleet and Klingon Intelligence have uncovered loose ties to agents of the Typhon Pact. It is currently unclear if this agent is acting with the express consent of the Pact or if they are acting alone."

As everyone processed that information he added, "Until Chancellor Martok, or the loyal High Council, request any Federation aid, or interdiction, you have my permission to stockpile appropriate materiel on Inverness and Archanis." Sevlek looked at Bremer, "When you are finished briefing, or discussing the situation with your staff, come see me in the Command Center." Sevlek turned and left as Mike nodded.

Mike smirked. "Let's get a hold of the Governors of Inverness and Archanis and let them know to start stockpiling medical supplies and other aid to be sent to the Klingon when needed. I also want plans drawn up to have that aid escorted safely and for us to send ships to patrol the Klingon/Romulan border if we're asked. Sevlek said we can't act, but there's nothing stopping us from being prepared."

Mike looked around, "Dismissed."
