Lennox finally arrived in the briefing room. He had a mug of raktijno with him and took a sip as he stepped into the room. He nodded respectfully to everyone as he took a seat.
There was a little too much excitement for one day, but Jackson loved every minute of it. His Marines got to wet their claws, and he got a confirmation that he had the right XO for the job. Now it was time for the debrief ritual. He entered the room after the other arrived.
Morris stepped up and began as everyone had taken their seats. He pulled up the Kaleb III information first, noticing the door open right before he started.
Olga quietly entered and took a seat in the back. She had a large cup of heavily doctored coffee. Her face was still covered in bruises. She hoped the debriefing would not take long.
Percy nodded to her - she may have belonged in sickbay, but it was accepted to him. He was still sore actually, even though he was not in direct combat. "I'll try to be brief on the Kaleb III run. The Tirpitz ran just fine and the crew stepped up to get us there. We beamed down and found that, while the atmosphere required environmental gear, it was navigable for the teams.
"We ended up breaking into two before we got the call for Kaleb IV. But one group, led by Captain Lennox and Officer Aquila, did investigate some of the remnants of the Klingon base. Some of its security precautions were still in place, to our surprise." Morris paused. "Would you care to describe outside of what was in your notes, captain?"
Lennox nodded, “Yes sir. While the base itself looked run down, it’s structurally still intact, I’d believe we could use it as the core of any facility we’d want to place on Kaleb III. It would require some reinforcing, modification, and cleaning however it would save construction time. As for the Klingon Security still in place, the more I think about it I don’t think holo-warriors we saw were meant to keep Starfleet out, but more to deter pirates or others seeking a place to hide out. The Klingons used simple motion sensors to trigger the holo-projectors. Basic programs, designed to attack anyone that triggered the motion sensors. The Klingons had installed several of these throughout the facilities before they withdrew, but only four were still active.”
"Very active." Giaus added.
Morris nodded. "Thank you." He flipped up to an orbital zoomed in view of the old base. "We need to have SCE take a look at our scans, but it is highly likely we could add some heavy duty support beams in place at a few places and rebuild the domes, or something similar. But, while having the base rebuilt is grand, having the inhospitable surface as a training ground is a great benefit as well."
Gilmore added, "I had some of the science teams look over our data, as well as a couple engineering teams. Everything looks to be in place and I'm sure it should be an interesting fixer upper. The data shows that the structures on the planet are stable and in well enough conditions. It'll take a little bit of elbow grease, but it's nothing a few marines and engineers can't handle."
Percy looked over at Jackson and gave a firm nod. "That's all we have on Kaleb III - outside our written reports. I welcome questions, or," he said looking at those in the room, "other input."
Jackson nodded back, taking in the information he just heard.
Coleman chimed in and asked, "General, Major. I remember in discussions with you both that you wanted to have a couple holographic domes in place on the planet. Which domes did you wish to have holographic for training purposes? Just to make sure we make the necessary preparations to the old and new structures."
Jackson spoke, "Well, the presence of the new base kind of changes a few things. The original plan was to make a few life support domes. One was going to house the Admin, Barracks, Medical, and Garrison. Another was going to be a dedicated Class M Training Dome, and the others were to be Holodomes that could mimic any planetary condition. Plus an Engineering dome, Flight Operations Pod, and an underground Depot/Cache. Not to mention shield generators, and shore batteries. Now my question is this: How would we adapt the original plan with the addition of the Klingon Facilities?"
"Sir," Lennox spoke up, "we could use the existing Klingon structure as the hub, a connecting structure. It's large enough for security check points to each section we build onto it. We can also use the old Klingon Command Center for our own, with extensive modifications of course. It's structurally sound, double re-enforced. We'd just have to build onto what's already there, a modular design."
Coleman went over to the wall mounted view screen and called up various scans that the teams made of the planet and the old Klingon settlement. "Lennox is right. All I'd have to do is re-enforce the old alloys in the structure and do a little rearranging and updating and we could have the command center operational within a shorter time span than trying to build a completely new command center from scratch."
Then, Coleman scratched his chin and looked at the scans for another second, before saying, "The only thing that might be tough is when we add the new sections on. In the 22nd-century, the Klingons, nor did Earth Starfleet for that matter, use the type of materials that we use today. Meshing the old with the new domes and sections we build up now might be a little tricky, but I'm sure that with some help from Starfleet Corp of Engineers, we can have your training and Marine base operational within no time, sirs."
Morris nodded. "I like the idea, Commander." Percy looked over at Jackson - he would love to get his hands involved in this project, help lead things down on the planet. But that was a discussion for another time. "Do we have enough to go on, given the reports and research herein?"
T'Lyn just sat there and listened basically they covered what she was going to say so she felt she didn't need to say anything at this time she just listened and nodded her head from time to time.
Coleman nodded and said, "Yeah, I should be able to get started. I'd just need to talk to Starfleet Corp of Engineers and maybe even Starfleet R&D, just to see what they've got up their sleeve. I think one of the SCE ships are in the area. I'll see if they can make a pitstop to help us out with the base, if that's alright with you General."
"Sounds good to me. Make it happen", Jackson replied. As for our unplanned action at Kaleb 4, I think everyone in this room is aware of the details. You all did a great job in our response to the pirate incursion, and I think nothing more needs to be discussed. Dismissed.
