Mission: Episode 88 - Memories Lost, Trouble Found
Location: Starbase 400, Fleet Admiral Bremer's Office
Timeline: MD5 1000hrs, Following 'Kaleb III Debrief'

ON:

Bremer was in his Office looking over reports from the Pirate raid on Kalab IV when another message beeped on his display. Mike finished reading the report he was already looking over then opened up the newly arrived message.

Mike was concerned when he saw the new message was from Fleet Admiral Oliver Tidwell...of the Forth Fleet. Mike opened the message to find it was advising him Starbase 400 had been reassigned to the Fourth Fleet. It had been several years since Starbase 400 and Mike himself had been a part of the Fleet he had been the Commanding Officer of through most of the Dominion War and for many years after. Mike and Starbase 400 had left the Fourth Fleet after a following out with its Commanding Officer, but he was now long gone. Mike had heard this Tidwell guy was well respected, honorable, a good man that was a good commander for the Forth. Mike’s former Fourth Fleet XO, and another previous Fourth Fleet CO, Fleet Admiral Chadwick had even recommended Tidwell for the job, so Mike high hopes for the new Fleet CO.

Even though the message assured Mike that Starbase 400’s reassignment to the Fourth Fleet wouldn’t mean any changes to the Station’s day in and day out duties, assignments, personnel, or any other changes, Mike still had some reservations that only time would prove to be correct or nothing to worry about. The message stated that Fourth Fleet ships would come calling on Starbase 400 from time to time for refit, repairs, or crew R&R, and Starbase 400 might be called upon to assist in Forth Fleet operations. Starbase 400 would still be the command base for the Ares Theater of Operations with Mike its Commanding Officer reporting directly to Fleet Admiral Sevlek, but, if ‘something’ arose, Fleet Admiral Tidwell might come calling as well.

Mike paused a few moments after reading the message, thinking about the past and the possible future for Starbase 400 and the Forth Fleet. A few moments later Mike tapped his commbadge, “Fleet Admiral Sevlek, please report to my Office.”

Mike wanted Sevlek to look over the message. He figured the Vulcan already knew about it, but he still wanted to make sure...and to make sure the message was legit.

Sevlek was walking through a corridor on his way to his own office when the comm came from Bremer, he tapped his combadge, "On my way."

After the short journey to Bremer's Office, Sevlek rang the chime. After a second, he was invited in. Sevlek walked into the office and knew what Bremer's concern was immediately, "Fourth Fleet reassignment is a legitimate order. Starbase 400 is, in a logistical manner of speaking, part of the Fourth Fleet. However, you remain outside of the standard chain of command while serving as my Flagstation."

Mike smirked for a second, but his expression quickly changed back to a more serious one. "This won't supersede my current assignment or allow any Forth Fleet Flag Officer to usurp my authority will it?" While Mike didn't mind being under the umbrella of the Forth Fleet again, he also didn't want a repeat of previous...incidents.

"Not directly, no. Admiral Tidwell cannot, as Humans would say, hijack your station without your consent and my consent. As my flagstation, Starbase 400 will be received an increase in security personnel and an increase in logistical supplies, and as per Starfleet Operational Regulations, no one may order you to undertake any assignment without my express support."

Mike looked at Sevlek in the eyes for a moment, "To use another Human expression, promise?"

"I give you my word that I will not allow any individual to interfere with the promotions, rewards and recognition that any member of Starbase 400 has been granted."

With that, Mike was satisfied. He really didn't expect history to repeat itself, and knowing he had people to support his position this time did put his mind at ease.

"Thank you Sevlek." Mike said sincerely before both left the office.
