VIP Level

After speaking with Roebuck, Jewel walked down to the secured office area in search for Admiral Selvek. Once she gained access she walked over to the office and rang the chime.

"Enter." Sevlek was not expecting any visitors.

Once she was given permission to enter she stood at attention and looked at him. "Sir, Commander Roebuck said I should talk to you about assisting you in anyway sir. I am Brigadier General Jewel Hurd the Chief Diplomatic Officer here. Would like to help if I can." Jewel stated looking at the Admiral.

"I will keep that in mind, general. However, at the moment there isn't anything pressing with which I require assistance." Sevlek responded flatly. In truth, he truly had nothing of import at the moment to assign to anyone.

Sighing, "Very well I guess I will just go to my office and see what there is to do." Jewel stated as she wanted to get back to work. With that she left and headed for her office.

Promenade

1800 hours was long and coming for the MARSOC Team assigned to QRF. The sight of the relief team coming in to take over Staff Warrant Officer Aquila's team was a welcomed one. Most of the outgoing team was content to catch up on sleep time as soon as they cleaned up. Giaus Aquila and three others decided to unwind in the Promenade after they cleaned up. Since the Division was still on Condition 3 due to the VIP visit, the luxary of civilian clothing was off limits for now. Tonight's relaxation was to be done in marine combat uniforms, minus kit and armor of course. The gold MARSOC wings on their chests contrasted greatly against the digital camouflage of the marine combat uniform. The four operators occupied a table in a dark corner of the bistro they chose to have dinner at. After ordering their meals, they relaxed and conversed.

"Chief, how long are we going to be on stand by for?" asked one marine.

Giaus considered the question. He was not to thrilled about being on standby as much as any other marine. "As long as our guest are here I would imagine."

"My ass is getting numb for sitting around Sir." the marine responded.

"Trust me, I think we are due for some heavy training, or even an Operation in our near future. Enjoy the down time while you can." Giaus' answer was based on experience. He could not blame his men for going stir crazy. A part of him was experiencing the same feelings. However, the alternative involved life and death encounters.

"Indeed gentlemen." came a male voice as Captain Jake 'Atin' Yamaguchi came over, a tray in hand but he was also out of uniform. "May I join you... " he inquired politely but still giving the Marines the option to refuse him as just because he was a visiting ship Captain gave him nothing at all.

The Operators regarded their visitor, and looked at Giaus, who answered for them.

"Of course lone traveler. I am Aquila." He then spoke as he pointed at the others. "This is Rocko, Castle, Aelhih , and the one with the antennas is Zarath. How can we help you?"

Yamaguchi smiled as he sat at the table where the Marines were sitting. "A privilege to meet the Starbase's finest. My wife speaks highly of you guys and she doesn't speak well of anyone." Yamaguchi commented with a smile. "Hows things with you guys.?" he inquired.

Giaus responded, "Saving the universe through aggressive babysitting." The other operators nodded in agreement. Giaus smelled brass all over this visitor, but he seemed nice enough. Possibly a fleeter.

"And of course Marines babysit with speed and intensity" barked another voice of another newcomer.

Giaus saw his boss standing at the table. "Jax, we were explaining to our visitor the hazards of saving the universe when you rudely interrupted," he said jokingly to the Colonel.

Jax already had a chair in his hands, and placed it down at the table to sit down. Looking at Yamaguchi, he extended his hand, "Thomas Jackson, head babysitter. Off duty, which we sort of are, everyone calls me Jax.

Jake shook his hand. "Good to see you again Colonel, though last time you were wearing gold bars... at Chin'toka." he explained. "Jake Yamaguchi, Skipper of the Courageous." he reminded the other guy as it had been a very long time.

The First and Second Battle for the Chin'toka system were not part of either Jackson's or Aquila's best memories. "So it's a small universe."

"So... this is where you're hanging out?" came a woman's voice from the bar top as Lieutenant Siaxx Dvald seemed to congeal from out of the shadows, she was in uniform with the skirt and boots. "Stand easy guys, I was just passing through like a case of the common cold." she smiled cheerfully. "Colonel, you look well." she nodded to Jax who'm she had yet to meet.

"Well thank you," Jax replied.

"Siaxx. What are you doing here?"

"Do you always ask your wife her business..." Siax inquired as she regarded her old friend. "I was just looking or a decent place for lunch when I saw you. " the Bolian smiled cheerfully. "In any case... I was just passing by... is there space for one more at the table...?" Siaxx inquired.

"Always, and pleased to meet you." Jax replied.

The taller then average Bolian smiled as she sat down at the table, a cup of coffee in hand. "You too sir." she responded, she was in uniform so there it was.

Jake Yamaguchi smiled. "Siaxx... you should not have shown up in uniform..." he commented. "now everyone must regard you as such."

Jackson remarked, "No sweat. We are all off duty here. The only reason my men and I are in uniform is because the Division is on Condition 3 until our visitors are gone."

Holly was not one to really venture out when she was relieved of duty, but this was a different set of circumstances. She felt led to wander for a while and let her mind take off. She needed the break before she personally broke as the last mission wore on her more than what she would ever admit to it doing. Could be why she was quite more so than normal. Passing by the group of marines that had gathered and another she just smiled as she was out of uniform at the moment. She took up a seat at a table not too far away not wanting to interrupt their conversation.

Giaus noticed the woman, and her smile. He smiled back. During the conversation, he smiled at her again, and raised his mug before taking a drink.

Holly didn't pay much attention to the conversation that was going on at the marine table as it wasn't her place really to know what they were talking about. She did however, look towards the door of the establishment again which happened to be in the direction of the marine table when she saw one of the marines catch her eye as he smiled and raised a glass to her. A sweet and enduring gesture she knew it to be one an honorable man would do to acknowledge a woman she thought it only kind to smile back at him and raise her own glass before drinking out of it. Then giggle a bit and act shy as still she wasn't too sure of her social graces.

Social graces or not, Giaus was kind of weary talking shop when he was off duty. He wanted to have a normal conversation in this new post. With a nod, he excused himself from the other marines, and approached her table. He was not sure what he would say to her, but he decided that all of his friends did not have to wear digital camo. "Excuse me, but is there room on this quiet table for one more?"

Holly looked up at him before motioning with her hand that it was alright for him to sit down with her. "The company would be welcomed. Just as long as you promise not to talk about work." She then smiled at him and lightly laughed a bit.

Giaus was happy that this woman was interested in non-business conversation. He took his seat, slightly smiling as he did. Offering his hand to her, "Giaus Aquila. But you may call me Giaus if it pleases you." Nothing left a better first impression on him than a genuine smile.

Holly took his hand and smiled, "I'm just Holly, Giaus. It is nice to meet you." She let her hand linger in his for a moment before withdrawing it. " Been a long time since I've served as you now do the Federation. That's why no talk of business, or you might just make me miss my old commander." She then giggled a bit, "He was quite a fighter even before he got going. Being that he was an aquatic stuck on a sandbar as he liked to put it with us air breathers."

Giaus smiled as she spoke. He did not know her history, but he could tell that she missed some of her old days, whenever they were. She was definitely a fleeter of sorts, but not condescending like some fleeters that he came across. The person in front of him was genuine, regardless of rank and position. "So where did you come from?"

Holly didn't hesitate to answer his question as she wasn't going to hide from him. Too many secrets made enemies of friends in the past, so she made it a policy not to lie to people who were kind like Giaus was so far, " Betazed, but it might as well be space with the amount of time that I've spent there. How about yourself Gaius... were do you come from?"

Most people would be nervous around a Betazoid. Not Giaus. He hasn't lied in his life. He may have kept things to himself, mainly due to security protocols, but never a lie beyond that. "To most people, I come from the fourth planet in the 892 star system. To people like me, I come from what we now call Magna Roma. Sloppy business, this whole parallel development thing." To be honest, Giaus was proud with the fact that his version of Earth avoided the world wars that plagued the other Earth in the Sol System. "I spent my early years entirely on planet before I was old enough to enlist for the Federation thirteen years ago. If I remained, I probably would be a prefect by now, shining a chair with my behind. "

Holly couldn't help but smile seeing Giaus on a chair of any sort to sit on it day in and day out was an amusing site to see and one in which she knew he would have never agreed upon. " I don't think that life would have agreed with you, and it explains why I see a fire in your eyes that is absent in most humans that I've seen." She then decided to share with him something that she didn't talk about much, " Then again if I were to have stayed home the life that was left for me wouldn't have settled well either. Would have been dull having to speak without really speaking all the time and wait on the needs of another."

It delighted Giaus that there was some commonality in their paths. "So I guess that we are both sitting here because we chose to take a right on the fork in the road. Hoping for something less redundant. As they say back at home, we chose to "Seize the day". On the other hand, we do cater to the needs of another just by being here. To me, it is just on better terms." Well, better for the most part. There was that not so little thing called the Dominion War, but Giaus chose to keep those memories somewhere else. He concentrated on the present moment, seizing the day.

"Much better terms I think. Even though I do regret being talked out of serving in the marines after it got around about my talent of the mind." She then smiled a bit and giggled, "That and a very sweet Captain said I was too pretty of a girl. Being as I was younger and more impressionable back then... well now I'm a fleeter."

Giaus was actually grateful that she was talked out of the Marines. There was no telling what his life experience would have done to such an intelligent and promising person, had it happened to her. "Well, you didn't miss much skipping the Marines. I for one, did not exactly come from a space faring race. Besides the USS Centurion, and a few fleeters, most of my people chose to go to where Romans fared the best, land operations. The tradition of the Legions. At least there is one more fleeter I can get along with." He could not help but to keep smiling.

"As I am glad to have a marine that I can get along with now that I am out of that line of the service." She then chuckled, "I guess us 'rule breakers' got to stick together."

"Yes we do." Ironic to Giaus to agree with this, since Magna Romans were known as a group of conformists. Deep inside, that may have been a reason he decided to make a career out of the Marines. Giaus has really enjoying Holly's company. He has not been this happy since...Lavinia. Now the thoughts of happiness and caution seemed to be working themselves out in his mind. Caution also seemed to be making some giant concessions. Death, after all, was supposed to be a trivial thing to his people. Almost three thousand years of arena broadcasts have desensitized most of them. Like he said to Holly earlier, seize the day... "I have to ask you something Holly. When the Marines are finally off Condition 3, can I entertain you with dinner, in normal attire?"

Holly would have normally said no as it was in her nature not to really mix personal with professional, but for some reason Giaus was different. Something about him was drawing her attention, so she smiled before she answered his question. "Yes, I think I would like that as I am enjoying your company even in uniform."

"Excellent." That was the only word Giaus could muster at this time. He could not help but to keep smiling as the conversation continued. This was indeed a beautiful moment. Speaking of beautiful, he was just starting to notice that trait in the woman in front of him. He was surprised that he did not really notice this first. Not entirely true. Her smile is what got his attention in the first place. At least between now, and the time the Marines stood down, he needed to research what Betazoids could, and could not eat.

Alec had taken some time away from the flight deck and away from his fighter to explore the Promenade. He had already brought some decorations for his room which he had planned on taking straight back but caught eye of a cafe which was somewhat busy and had a group of marines in a group who had pushed two tables together and took up most of the room. Walking by he nodded as he moved to the counter and ordered himself a hot chocolate and a slice of cake.

Jake turned his head as he took in the scene in the cafe at a glance, he didn't know the Fighter pilot at the bar but he knew his old CO was back in uniform and on the base, it was good to see Fives again and the female officer was someone that Torilla had pointed out to him awhile ago as being Lieutenant Holly Gillo.

Apparently according to Torilla, she was a formidable Psionic, which only made Torilla a happy woman, for reasons Jake knew about but never understood as he turned his attention back to the Marines, he never said who he was but that as simply because he was out of uniform and he hated the pomp and circumstances around his rank and posting.

Jake had watched as the massive Marine had taken his leave and had gone over to join the Lieutenant. Siaxx had also watched in silence, her dark eyes revealing nothing as she regarded Jake. "How life treating you sir?"

"No sir, Siaxx... I'm in civilian clothing.... leave the sir at the door." Yamaguchi answered with a smile. "I hate people calling me sir... makes me feel overly important or that I'm getting old..... and I am neither." he looked at the Colonel. "Right Jax?"

"I know exactly what you mean," Jax replied. "I have been lectured many times for being too familiar with my marines."

Yamaguchi nodded. "see, these guys understand my way of thinking."

"Jake, your way of thinking scares me at times.." the Bolian admitted.

"Oh stop worrying so much..." Yamaguchi responded, clearly enjoying a joke at the Bolian's expense.

After coming off shift, Jack, along with Walshie, Travers and Watson, walked into the Promenade and was immediately in awe. it was the first time he had been in the room since his arrivel on SB 400 and was amazed by the wide open space and the comfyness of the chairs and.......well everything really.

He turned to Ensign Walsh and said 'i should come here more often'.

Walsh replied with 'yeah it's alright, but watch out for the marines in here'.

They sat by one of the windows, Travers ordered the drinks and Watson pulled out a pack of cards and they set up a game of poker.

Jack turned to Walsh and asked him who was in the room.

"well, over there by that big window we got Colonel Jackson, he's CO of the marines on this tub; next to him is Giaus Aquila he's the MASROC specialist -"

when jack was going to interrupt his with a quizical look. Walsh said "dont even ask me what that means".

he continued at a brisk pace; "then over there we got Ensign Chevrat, AB Thomas, AB Damon, LT Gillo; she head of OPS on this bucket, CPO Hartley, civvie, civvie, civvie, LT-CDR Yamaguchi, nearly missed her, she's CO USS Venator and STRATOPSEXEC". "and thats pretty much it sir".

Watson said "i wouldn't employ him as a tour guide"

Walsh replied "i have you know i'm on first names terms with the Admiral, the Vulcan Ambassador and the Klingon double agent currently hiding that plant pot". everyone laughed. Travers just growled in his usual style.

That was when a female Bolian seemed to appear. "Aww you forgot me.... I'm hurt... and you also forgot about Captain Yamaguchi.... " clearly she had heard everything. "and the lady in the corner.... thats not Torilla... but its one of her people..."

Watson poked Walsh in the ribs and chuckled "see, i told you i would'nt employ him as a tour guide"

Walshie took a sip of his drink and said "i'm much happier wrapped around a warp drive anyway". he then made the formal introduction. "Jack, meet LT Siaxx Dvald MD, Medical: Siaxx, meet LT JG Jack Wooldridge, Engineering; he's brand new so go easy on him ma'am". Jack chuckled and stood up to salute a senior officer. Walshie continued, "And for what do we earn this lovely pleasure ma'am, do i have the honour of getting you a drink?".

Siaxx smiled impishly at the two questions. "Well I was just looking for lunch before I went back to work... but yes... you may have the honor of buying me a drink" the Bolian commented with a grin. "Besides. you know how it is... paperwork to file and reports to do.."

Science Department

As Nuala entered the lab she saw a dark haired young women going over a PADD. She was next to a piece of damaged metal and obviously running an analysis.

"Hello Ensign." Nuala tried to get her attention without acting rude.

"Oh, hello there Lieutenant. I'm Ensign Fraray, I'm a metallurgist. I don't think we have met?" Faray asked.

"No, I'm a little new here. I'm Nuala Takabe. I've been on the Yorktown. Is the Chief Science Officer in?" Nuala asked.

"Captain L'Verrem? No, he is still out on a mission." Faray told her.

"What about the Assistant Chief Science Office?" Nuala asked.

Faray gave Nuala an odd look. "I think your the assistant chief science officer Lieutenant." Faray told her.

Nuala went over to a monitor and brout up the Science departments chain of command. "Your right, it's me." Nuala stated.

"Anything thing else Lieutenant? I have to finish analyzing this metal." Faray informed Takabe.

"No, no, please carry on." Nuala replied. "Is that metal battle damaged?" she asked the ensign.

"It's from an experiment our R and D guy, Commander Stark, is running." Faray told Nuala.
