Mission: Mission 86 - Discovery
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD 3 1345hrs, Following 'Just Another Day')

ON:

Lt Commander Torilla Yamaguchi disembarked the USS Yorktown, wearing her regular duty uniform and she carried a duffel bag over one shoulder, she turned her head as she regarded what little of the Yorktown's superstructure she could see when she felt a child's voice calling her name, she smiled as she could feel her daughter's sense of control had clearly grown.

Torilla turned as she could see her youngest daughter standing by the security checkpoint, she was also busy chatting with one of the personnel who policed the checkpoint, one of them was talking to Rachael while the other was looking after everything else.

The three of them were having a chat about sports as Torilla came over. "Hello James, Ryan." she greeted both men by name in turn. "Am I interrupting?"

"No Commander. The cadet was just updating us about the Football tournament happening planetside."

Rachael nodded. "I apologize sir." she addressed both men.

"Oh no worries Cadet, you just brightened our day. Never apologize for wanting to cheer others up cadet, thats never a bad thing." the Ensign smiled at the younger woman.

"Yessir." Rachael responded as Torilla handed her, her duffel. "Here. Help your old geezer of a mother would you."

Rachael gave her mother a long suffering look. "Mom, just so you know, Aunt Celeste and her kids are on the station as is Dad and Gideon. They are waiting for you at home."

Torilla cheered instantly, her husband was here as was his youngest sibling,
she grinned. "Lets go home then."

Rachael smiled. "Okay."

Jake regarded his wife. "There is something going on aboard the Starbase but nobody is telling me whats going on.." he commented. "do you know anything about it?"

"No." Torilla answered, a narrow frown appearing on her face. "Nobody has told me anything." she shrugged. "If they want me to know, they'll tell me but I'm off duty for the next two days... Captain K'Temoc was nice enough to give his crew time off."

OPS

Jewel decided after speaking with Jackson she talk to Commander Roebuck about coming back duty early. She needed to work to get her mind off things, she walked up to OPS and looked around. She spotted the Commander and walked up to him. "Commander Roebuck, may I have a word?" Jewel asked with a smile.

Roebuck saw the General enter Ops, and he stepped over to meet here, “General, welcome back. We were sad to hear about Major Hurd’s injuries. Doctor Romans has been informed, is there anything you need?”

"Thank you Commander, just if I can return to duty. I need something to do to keep my mind occupied." Jewel stated looking at him. "David will be going through physical therapy which Starfleet Medical sent along one with him." Jewel then added.

"Speak with Admiral Sevlek, see if he needs you with his talks with the Security Council members...whatever they are about. If not," Roebuck paused since he had no other work for the General, "then, we'll see what we can find."

VIP Area

Jackson finally made it to the VIP Area entrance to conduct his walk through. After checking in with the biometric scan, he entered the area. He was please to see the Marine guards vigilant at their posts. He also recognized Corporal Vaal. "Good afternoon Corporal Vaal."

"Hello Sir." Olga greeted Colonel Jackson with a smile. "I don't suppose your here to escort our visitors home and free use from this monotony?" Olga facetiously asked.

Jackson had the same sentiments. "I wish I could tell you just that. This unit needs FTXs, not babysitting duty. I am surprised that non of you are wishing for an attack."

"In my weaker moments Sir I do." Olga admitted. "Although I do know better than to want that Sir." Olga sheepishly added.

"We all do. So is there anything you Marines up here need?"

"No Sir, we're good here." Olga replied.

"Very well. Carry on Corporal."

With that, Jackson left the VIP area to finish his rounds.

Starbase Infirmary

Lieutenant Siaxx Dvald was glad to be home and the look on her face said as much, she was just stopping in to drop off two pieces of paperwork, the first was abut the personnel she had with her and the second was the evaluation of the Yorktown's medical systems.

She dropped them off with the receptionist with orders to send them to their various destinations, one of them would end up with a Lieutenant Jason Romans, a man she had yet to meet but one who was serving as the assistant Chief Medical Officer

She turned and went right back out the door to the Promenade.

R&D area, Level 1428

After disembarking from the Yorktown, K’Temoc headed down to the R&D area. He was not only eager to meet the new R&D Director, but he also wanted to give them a copy of his report detailing the events surrounding the Yorktown’s Computer Core strange behavior.

As he walked into the lab the computer had told him the R&D Director was in, he noticed it seemed to be more like a workshop. He heard a man’s voice coming from a far corner...

“No, dummy, you hold that there very still and let me attach the nacelle. Ahh, ah! Still!”

K’Temoc walked across the room and around the corner to find a man fitting the description and image of the new R&D Director sitting at a work bench constructing a model of a new Starship design. The ‘person’ he was talking to appeared to be a robotic assistant on wheels, with a pitcher on an extended arm and looked kind of crude by modern standards.

K’Temoc walked over to the side of the table adjacent to the man and looked over at him, “Mister Stark.”

“Cap’n.” The man replied glancing at K’Temoc.

The two men looked at each other for a moment, as if they seemed familiar to one another, then K’Temoc spoke up. “Welcome to Starbase 400. We had some issues with the Yorktown’s new positronic core during her shakedown, here’s a report of what happened.” K’Temoc set a PADD on the work bench. He paused a moment when Stark didn't reply, he appeared to be deep into his work.

After a moment, Stark was able to attach the nacelle to the model Starship, he then set the tool is was using down, and took the model out of the robot’s ‘hand’. “I’ll take a look at it, but I already read the preliminary report you transmitted, so the core was showing signs of conscious behavior...we theorized that could happen, but the chances were slim. You reported a radiation leak prior to the behavior, it’s possible that triggered something. I’ll have a team board the Yorktown to start investigating, but the ship will be out of action for at least a few weeks.”

K’Temoc nodded, “Thank you Commander.” He paused a moment again, then flashed a smile, “You prefer to work with models? What vessel is that?”

“It’s the new Odyssey class’s approved design. She’s still over ten years away from seeing service, the keel hasn’t been laid yet. Starbase 400 has been assigned the task of developing the weapons systems for her, new Type-IV phaser arrays…but to your question, yes I like to have a hands on model to work with. Of course we have full holographic and computer models to work with using holo-labs as well.”

K’Temoc smirked, “I know, I installed them when I was the R&D Director several years ago.”

Stark flashed a smile of his own, “Yeah, well, I perfected them. I installed a new dedicated computer core and processors, boosted power to the hologrid, and corrected a few programming errors. You might like it, it’s a candy land now, has all the toys.”

K’Temoc nodded, he didn't like being put down as he had been, “All right, well, keep me updated on what you find.”

The two men exchanged a respectful nod and K’Temoc left the workshop and headed for Ops.

Main Engineering

Lieutenant Lasky walked into the massive engineering section of the starbase, this place never eased to make him smile as it was almost five hundred levels tall, the starbase had several power cores but the main one was on level two thousand but today he was on level Nineteen hundred, he smiled as he held a PADD in hand as two others turned to face him, one of them was one of the senior warrant officers for engineering while the other was a Lieutenant.

"So.. Fives, how'd she handle?"

"She did good, her core displayed evidence of being self-aware but... we never got to check before went sideways."

"Sounds like you had a fun time.."

Fives shook his head.. "No.. not really... feels like I lost my own child." he admitted as he handed the PADD to the senior non-com. "My mission report Chief. send a copy to the Captain of the Yorktown."

"I'll do that sir." the Master Chief Warrant officer nodded somberly. "Do you need anything further?"

Fives shook his head. "No... nothing short of erasing my memories of the last three days... " he sighed. "I'll get over it." he sighed before turning away and he walked out the door.

Level 814

Nuala opened the door to her new quarters. It smelled like cleaning solvent. There were two creates on the floor filled with her meager personal belongings. Nuala threw her travel bag on the unmade bed. She went to the window as gazed at the planet below.

"At least I have a window this time." she said to an empty room. She sat on the bed. Her two free days would be spent making this place into a home.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on base. Torilla reached her quarters where she found her husband sitting on her sofa, asleep, His youngest sibling, one Commander Celeste Yamaguchi cheered instantly at the sight of Torilla, she came over to give the slightly larger woman a hug.

Torilla gently embraced her sister-in-law. "Celeste." Torilla greeted her by name.

Jake blinked as he woke up as Rachael looked at him. "Interesting approach Dad." she indicated the small bassinet next to the sofa where Gideon lay, also asleep.

"Do you have any idea what it sometimes takes to get an infant to sleep, Rachael?" Jake inquired.

"Oh I can imagine."

Jake realized that is wife was home as he slowly hauled himself up off of the sofa, with a hand from Rachael who sighed. "Geez Dad, you're getting old." the teenager commented. "Yes, Yes I am... now be nice to your old geezer of a father would ya."

Celeste chuckled softly as she watched the infant wake up, she gently plucked him from his bassinet. "Hi." she greeted him with a smile.

Jake smiled at he greeted his wife. "Torilla."

Torilla regarded her husband. "Sleeping on the sofa with your grandson at you feet.. Jake whats wrong with my bed?"

"Well... I meant to go to bed after putting him down for a nap but..."

"But you fell asleep here because he kept you up all night." Torilla shook her head. "Typical, I tell you... so typical.." she sighed. "Well... I'm home... whats everyone doing here?"

Ops

Back in Ops, K’Temoc arrived and walked over to Roebuck. “Any fun going on around here?”

“We've played babysitter to several members of the Federation Security Council that have been meeting with Sevlek, otherwise it’s been quite.” Roebuck replied.

A moment later, the Communications Station beeped. K’Wor glanced at the incoming communication. “Message from Starfleet Fighter Ops, a new pilot is on his way to the Station to take over at the Executive Officer of the 181st, Marine Captain Herondale.”

K’Temoc and Roebuck looked at the message as well, then K’Temoc smirked, “You're still in charge of this place until the Admiral returns aboard the Essex, you tell him Phoenix isn't here and then tell her she has a new minion.”

Roebuck smirked back, then sent a quick message to Herondale and to Sullivan. “We did receive a message from the Essex less than an hour ago. They did recover the tetryon device and have located an alien ship adrift nearby they are investigating. They hope to wrap that up and be back soon.”

K'Temoc nodded, "Good, keep me updated. I'm going to finish my last report regarding the Yorktown's tests when I have some drinks to by her crew."

Gym-Level 810

Alex and Lee arrived from Risa only a few hours ago. Alex finished unpacking and went to find her son Paul to let him know that they were back. He had been in the gym working out. Once she arrived there, she saw him and smiled. She missed him. When he turned around, he was surprised to see her and ran over to give her a hug.

"Mom, why didn't you tell me that you were back? I thought that you were coming back tomorrow."

Alex didn't want him to know what happened. It would have only worried him so she didn't tell him, "We were but Lee's friends were going this way and offered to take us back so we took them up on it."

Paul hugged her again, "Oh. Well, I'm glad you're back. I missed you."

"I missed you too, more than you know." Alex was wearing her workout clothes. She needed to punch something, "How long are you planning to be here?"

Paul shrugged, "I haven't been here very long." Noting that his mom was wearing her workout clothes, "I still have another hour. Maybe you can show me some of those great moves of yours."

Alex nodded, "Okay. Let me do some warm ups, Et cetera and then I'll help you." She went to do her thing. She needed to get her frustration out before she could work with her son.

Fighter Ops, CAG's Office

Captain Banner had been the XO of the fighter wing for nearly a year now. Mostly it was to counteract Phoenix's sour, impersonal presence. She sent noobs packing daily for not meeting high standards and he was lucky to not of been on her bad side.

A clean fighter. Reserved tactics. That was probably why he failed to make major three times now. That was why, unbeknownst to him, Starfighter Command had picked another to take his place.

Currently he sat in Phoenix's chair while going over the grid pattern CAPs. So as the door chimed, he nonchalantly answered, "Open."

The Typhoon Pact and pirate forces were unusually quiet, with the runs thus far. So Styx was more concerned with finding some secret shipping route black market smugglers might use that was gone unnoticed.

Alec had just arrived at Starbase 400 with new orders to take over as the executive officer for the fighter wing aboard the station he had read up on most of the reports about the ongoing mission and the current manifest which seemed to be forever changing. One of the reason he was here. Walking in through the door he saw the other officer behind the CAGs desk. "Captain Banner I assume?" He asked holding his duffel bag and assignment orders.

"I am, yes." Banner looked up and noted the rank insignia on the other man. A new pilot, clearly. He took the orders with a kind smile and began to read it.

"Can't say I like the new change, but then again, wiping the noses of all the noobs Phoenix frightens to death, is a breath of fresh air," Banner noted with a half-frown. Then stood up and saluted his new boss. "I suppose I relieve my post as pro temp CAG and turn it over to you, Sir."
