Racheal Yamaguchi emerged from the briefing room, second to last before a Trill female she didn't know as she had extra questions regarding various things like protocol and who did she address as sir, clearly she wanted to do well but some could label her as stupid.
Those who did would soon come to regret their folly, while she might be thirteen and small for her age, she was determined to earn her wings and one day, earn the converted status of ace.
She heard someone approach, if their footfalls were not enough then she could feel the tempest of energy, the Cumulonimbus of energy and rage, sometimes it overwhelmed her psionic defenses as she came to a stop and saluted the Major. "Major." she greeted Phoenix.
"Come with me, Cadet," Phoenix prodded and led the girl down the offices of the senior pilots - though most of the offices were for squadron leaders and wing command staff.
Rachael raised an eyebrow as she nodded. "Of course sir." she didn't argue with the older woman as she followed Phoenix into her office, as she stood ramrod straight at attention in the center of the room, eyes fixed on the back wall and looking every bit the proper cadet minus the uniform which she had in a duffel at her side. "You wished to see me sir?"
"At ease," Phoenix sighed in annoyance. She loathed protocol, but the cadet program was in place to groom teens into learning and being prepared for normal postings where COs expected it.
Rachael relaxed instantly as she placed the bag at her side on the deck. "Uhh Yessir." she paused as she knew the Major had a great deal to say so she would keep her mouth closed and wait.
What Phoenix did first was reach into her cooling unit and pulled out two glass bottles. One was a dark Andorian import while the other was a root beer. The CAG used a church key magnate to pop the tops off both bottles and handed the root-beer to Rachael as a bit of a truce.
"A&W. Best Terran brand of that particular kinda soda," Phoenix explained and then sat down in her own chair to drink on her own bitter beer. "So why'd your mom let you do this program?"
Blunt and to the point, for Phoenix was of the impression that she had gone from villain to monster, in station gossip by now. Most importantly, Rachael came too close to getting hurt in Phoenix's rage.
"Mom felt it was important for me to choose my own path... she bears you no ill will..." Rachael explained with a soft smile before sipping her drink, the look on her face said she had found something of an addictive narcotic as she blinked before pulling herself together. "wow.. that's good.." she paused. "I'm sorry sir... regarding mom. She's more curious about you now then ever..." she admitted.
Phoenix did not respond to that for she did not want many knowing her all that well. More so after what happened.
"Blurtin' out what I think, in public, is not a good way ta accomplish anythin' with me." She tried to sound polite when she said it, but there was a small hint of annoyance there, nonetheless. "Be as it may, I apologize for my behavior."
"I understand... but you owe me no apology sir." Rachael responded quietly as she considered her response.
Phoenix nodded and looked at Rachael's records very carefully as they drank in silence. Overall the simulations looked very good. Stellar, in fact.
"You continue to fly this impressively, I may put you in for early admittance as a Flight Cadet, once you reach sixteen." Phoenix picked up an apple from her fruit bowl and began eating on it. "Maybe a field promotion to Second Lieutenant, on my reserve roster."
Rachael blinked, this wasn't something she had been expecting. "I intend to sir." she responded. "I find a certain peace and fulfillment in flying that I seldom find anywhere else..." she spoke honestly.
"It's the only time I'm at peace," Phoenix admitted and then began to file a series of paperwork. "Provisional access to the Wing's simulators only where there is free time. An officer can bump you off at anytime though. You will not speak of this to the other junior cadets. It's simply that I feel it's unfair for you to start at square one, when you are at square six."
Rachael nodded as she regarded the Major. "Thank you sir.. and my lips are sealed." she commented evenly, if it was one thing Rachael was good at, it was keeping a secret.
"You'll attend firearms practice on Saturdays with me, along with learnin' extra material such as the Starfleet Survival Handbook. Plus you'll be puttin' yourself in for cadet officership - which I aint gonna influence at all with the Vulcan colonel's review board. You need ta be a Cadet Captain before sixteen, in order ta impress Fighter Ops brass," Phoenix spoke as she listed her requirements. "You'll also be expected to keep your math scores above ninety-five percent in order for any field promotion I hand ya, ta stick... In short, the fighter corps will become your life."
Rachael nodded, making mental notes for herself. "Okay. I just need to know where and when, I will be there." she commented. "I'll ask mom for a copy of the handbook which shouldn't be an issue.." she commented as she looked up at the Major. "Okay... I can request extra homework for math from my teachers.." the smaller teenager commented. "They love giving me work and I can cut back my other stuff like babysitting Xavier and Kaylee for Tressa." she paused. "or I can do homework with them... either would work."
"How you do it, is up to you. But once you become an officer, I wouldn' expect to have much time with your family, even if you are given a field promotion to this station," Phoenix spoke very candidly. "Noobs spend most their off hours in the simulators."
Rachael nodded, she appreciated the candid view that Phoenix was explaining to her as she continued making notes. "I will make do sir." she responded evenly. "the programs available in the system will greatly help me, I plan to make use of them all."
"You will be trainin' in the new Valkyrie simulator programs, in officer country. Ask the simulator tech chief for an operations manual of the Valkyrie," Phoenix spoke carefully, then took another heavy gulp of her beer. "You'll get two weeks to study it. Then I'll take ya to the holodeck and test ya from any random subject such as emergency repairs, ta knowin' how to eject."
Rachael nodded. "Yessir. I'll go see him right away." she responded. "Hopefully he won't give me too hard a time about it."
"You can finish your drink here if ya like," Phoenix shrugged, then took another hard gulp of her beer.
Rachael regarded the Major as the entire conversation felt unusual to her, however she was not about to question it as she raised her glass to toast the Major. "Thank you..." she paused. "here's to the next generation."
Phoneix raised her bottle in the air and continued to drink more. Then she asked, "You an' Aryssa still plannin' to see that movie this weekend?"
"As far as I know... we are." she then smiled. "I'll need to check with Aryssa of course just in case." she admitted. "considering recent events..."
Rachael regarded the larger woman as she sipped her drink. "Could you send me the details on where I should go on Saturday for weapons training?" she inquired. "I don't want to be late."
"I'll pick ya up. An' then I'll drop ya off in plenty of time ta get ready for the movies," Phoenix promised.
Rachael nodded. "Very well. I'll be ready.." she responded.
