Mission: Mission 84 - Blockade
Location: USS Pegasus, Bridge
Timeline: Blockade Duty, Day 2 - Pegasus Group

ON:

“Coleman, do whatever you can to get the grid’s integrity back. If that means we launch additional probes from all ships, or retrofit shuttles at act as mobile sensor relays, do it. Gillo, give him a hand as needed.” Mike then ordered.

"Aye, aye sir" said Coleman. Then, Coleman began to work on getting the grid up and trying to plug up the holes for the time begin with probes and some of the 181st's sensors and ships.

M'Kota sat there going over sensor logs, "That's one way to poke through the blockade...hopefully no one actually gets through." she said to no one in particular.

K'Wor continued to actively scan the area, so far he picked up no neutrinos or deBroglie waves...nothing to indicate cloaked vessels. He then ran a quick series of Antiproton scans, still nothing.

Mike waited for a few minutes as he thought, then he realized what was going on. “Chess.”

K’Temoc looked up, “Chess?”

“The Krazzle, every move they make, we make a counter move to try and keep them on their side of the board. Then, they make another move, we counter, but so far that’s been it. Basically, we’re both just using pawns to feel each other out, get a sense of what the other side is doing.” Mike explained, “They aren’t coming through the blockade, that’ll make them appear to be the aggressor, they’re trying to get us to commit so they can look like the victim, so they can justify their actions.”

“And their attacks on the convoys?” K’Temoc asked.

“Diversion. They can claim we’re building up to assault their territory, again to justify their actions. I bet there’s a fleet out there in open space right now, waiting.” Mike replied.

Mike looked back at K’Wor, M’Kota, and Gardner, “Signal all convoys, the Gladiator, and Venator to report to us ANY sighting or mention of an enemy fleet.”

"Understood," M'Kota stated as she tapped a few buttons.

K'Wor spoke up from Tactical, "Convoy 2 is reporting possible sensor contact with 'a large fleet’ massing near Nelas Minor, but they altered course and lost contact.

"Nelas Minor is a small planetary system, four worlds with a blue dwarf star in open space nestled between Romulan, Krazzle, and C’Hakilian territories." K'Temoc added.

"Keep me updated." Mike ordered with a touch of concern in his voice.

Things were coming to a head, Mike could feel it, and the report of a ‘large fleet’ massing near Nelas Minor, a planetary system in unclaimed space between Romulan, Krazzle, and C’Hakilian space only seemed to re-enforce that feeling.

Mike paced the Bridge of the Pegasus-B, thinking about his next move. With his fighters escorting one of the Relief Convoys, the Gladiator and Venator coming to the aid of others, and all adjacent section Commanders tired up with monitoring convoys in their areas as well as monitoring the blockade, there was only real play to make.

Mike stopped beside the Strategic Operation position on the starboard side of the Bridge, tapped one of the displays, and looked over a map of the area for a moment. He then deactivated the display and walked back toward his chair. “Chief Branson, set course 092 mark 268 and engage Slipstream. Ms. Gillo, I want you to keep a close eye on the ship’s power systems, being this is the Pegasus’s first Slipstream run.”

“Aye sir, course plotted and laid in.” Branson replied a little nervously from the Flight Control position.

Mike took his seat and tapped the ship’s 1MC, “All hands, battle stations.”

As the Red Alert klaxon sounded, Mike looked back at his son at Tactical, “K’Wor, shields up, but keep the weapons offline and on stand-by. We don’t want to look too provocative unless we have to. Also, have the Ablative Armor generators warmed up and standing by…just in case.”

“Yes sir.” K’Wor replied.

“K’Temoc, take Strategic Ops, if there is a fleet out there and it’s as large as reported, we’re going to need more eyes on it. Gardner, I want you to try to identify as many vessels as possible. Gilmore, assist Mister Gardner with identifying those ships. Gillo, be ready to divert additional power to the shields at a moment’s notice. M’Kota, we’re going to route communications through Mission Ops. Coleman, be ready for damage and alert Sick-Bay to be ready for casualties.” Mike ordered of his crew.

M'Kota nodded at what the Admiral stated, "Aye sir," she replied.

Coleman's fingers started to move across the panel, as he said, "Aye sir."

"Wing reports nothing on my end," Phoenix reported back to the bridge, all the while keeping an firm look on her active sensors.

Mike leaned back in his chair, “Chief…engage.”

Branson tapped in a few commands and the Pegasus leaped forward. Within moments the blue/aqua slipstream tunnel formed and the Pegasus slid inside, shooting off at an amazing speed.

Within minutes, Branson spoke up, “Admiral, we’re nearing the coordinates of the reported fleet.”

Mike smirked, it had taken only minutes at Slipstream to travel what would have been several hours at Warp 9.9, “Take is out of Slipstream Chief and slow us to Impulse.”

As the Pegasus emerged from the slipstream tunnel, K’Wor spoke up at Tactical.

“I’m picking up ships…lots of ships. Bearing 002 mark 027, distance two hundred thousand kilometers.” K’Wor reported.

“Mike…there’s over three thousand-five hundred ships in that fleet!” K’Temoc reported from Strategic Ops. “I’m picking up Krazzle, Romulan, Breen, Gorn, Order, Son’a, Talarian, and Tzenkethi ships…and four hundred and eighty two of them just locked weapons on us.”

“All stop Chief. M’Kota, heal them.”

"Channel open Admiral," M'Kota replied.

“Typhon Pact Fleet, this is Admiral Mike K’Wor Bremer of the Federation Starship Pegasus. We’re here to talk, not to fight.” Bremer held his breath for a moment, and then the screen changed from one of stars and enemy ships to a face he hadn’t seen in years…

“Admiral…either you have a death wish or you’re braver than I thought.” The blonde woman replied.

“Sela!” Mike replied, perhaps with a little surprise in his voice. “Why is there a combined Typhon Pact fleet massing so close to Federation and C’Hakilian territories?”

“Why is a combined Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian fleet massed so close to Krazzle and Romulan territory?” Sela sarcastically asked in reply.

“You know full well why we’ve blockaded C’Hakilian territory. The rest of the Typhon Pact was aiding the Krazzle in their war with the C’Hakilians. Instead of forcing an all-out Galactic War no one would win, we simply helped the Krazzle to the peace table.” Mike rebutted.

“Isn’t that what allies are for, helping each other?” Sela replied with a smirk. “You would do no less if the Klingons were under attack, and you’d expect them to aid the Federation if you were invaded.”

“The Krazzle invaded the C’Hakilians, without provocation, not the other way around. In this case, you aren’t running to their aid.” Mike replied back. “Let’s ease the tensions, withdrawal your fleet to Romulan territory.”

“This is open space, we have every right to be here…and to defend ourselves, Admiral.” Sela replied. “Tactical, standby the fire on the Pegasus. They appear hostile in this confrontation.”

“Ensign, lock all weapons, including Transphasic Torpedoes and all Phaser arrays on the closest ships…and lock the main Phaser bank on Sela’s ship…target her Bridge.” Mike countered.

“You’d sacrifice your crew for nothing? You’re a fool, you’ll be destroyed!” Sela stated.

“Perhaps, but it will be an honorable death, and you and several of your ships will die with us.” Mike said with a smirk.

“Checkmate.” K’Temoc said quietly.

“Yeah, but who’s?” K’Wor quietly asked in reply.

Sela didn’t say anything, she only gazed at Bremer for what felt like years, but was only a several seconds.

“This is getting us nowhere. You can posture and threaten. We can have nearly twenty-five hundred ships here to meet you within a matter hours and we can plunge the Galaxy into a war without end and a mutually assured destruction for us all. Or we can protect our families and our homes by stopping a war before it starts. Stand down your fleet, urge Ra’ Graline to accept the Peace Deal, and we will withdrawal our blockade fleet.” Mike said in an even tone, trying to calm the situation. He didn’t want to withdraw the blockade fleet, and figured he’d get some backlash from Admiral Sevlek and/or Starfleet Command, but this was give and take and he knew the only way to get Sela to back down was to show he was willing to back down some too.

Sela again said nothing as she thought about Mike’s words, then she turned to her Tactical Officer and lowered her hand.

“Admiral, Sela’s ship is powering down its weapons, the rest of the ships in her fleet are doing the same.” K’Wor reported.

Mike glanced back at his son at Tactical, “Stand down weapons.” Mike then looked back at Sela.

“Thank you.”

“I’m sure we’ll speak again, Admiral.” Sela replied as the screen returned to the view of stars and ships as the communications channel was closed.

“If we do, it’ll be too soon.” Mike said to himself.

“Sela’s fleet is setting course for Romulan territory and she is transmitting a message to Ra’ Garline’s ship at DS14.” K’Temoc reported from Strategic Ops.

Mike nodded as he looked over to Branson, “Chief, get us out of here, take us back to our section of the blockade, maximum Slipstream velocity. M’Kota, send a message to the USS Warrior and alert them we’re on the way back.”

"Understood Admiral," M'Kota stated as she sent the message to the USS Warrior letting them know the USS Pegasus was returning. "Message sent," M'Kota stated looking at the Admiral. She felt real uneasy to what had just happened.

Coleman sighed for a moment and quickly returned to his duties. He watched as dozens of Typhon Pact starships lined up to annihilate them all, but it came to a standstill. Nonetheless, he was happy that they were still breathing and in one piece. However, he also knew it was far from over.

"Admiral, do you think they will be back? or do you think this is an end?" she asked looking at Mike. She was not fond of Sela nor any of the Romulans, and there allies. She wanted this mission to be over with she was on edge.

"This isn't the end...they'll be watching our every move just like we're going to be watching them." Mike replied.
