Suan had reluctantly decided to carry out the orders given to her by Starfleet. If she was to serve in her current capacity then she was expected to report in, sort of probationary period.
Leaving Sickbay, she had encountered numerous stares and whispers; her Romulan hearing had picked up rather unflattering comments. The Admiral, so it appeared, was correct in his opinion of Federation officers being biased.
It did not affect her to much as she made her way through endless corridors to one of the most secure areas of the Station.
She was not totally surprised to be met by a burly human male in Security uniform whom halted any further progress.
The Romulan doctor stared daggers through him. "Tell Captain Harrison that Doctor Suan t'Khellian is here to see her as per Starfleet orders." Her tone suggested that she would have preferred anywhere else at the moment.
Alex was going over some things when someone came in, "Captain Harrison. That new Romulan doctor requests to see you."
Alex kind of rolled her eyes and sighed, "Now? Oh okay, send her in." She wasn't looking forward to this visit.
Suan stepped pass the security officer and entered Harrison's inner sanctum. She gave the woman her customary arched brow as she appraised the room, its contents and its occupant.
"As per agreement of my services to your Starfleet.." She paused, folding her arms behind her as if this whole affair annoyed her. "I am required to keep in contact with either a Starfleet Security or Starfleet Intelligence officer. I believe they called this 'probation' though I am unfamiliar with the term." She remained standing, facing Harrison. "So I am here, Captain, as required."
"Okay. Have a seat." She continued, "I'm most interested in how things went on your first day. Did you have any problems with anyone?"
"My first day was uneventful." Suan replied. "Six minor injuries, two infections and a routine biopsy requested. There were 22 frivolous cases of which I find a total waste of my medical skills. Federation species, so it seems, will seek medical attention for the smallest inconvenience. If this was a Romulan facility, that would not be the case." Her tone betrayed her own species' almost legendary status as arrogant and superior. "As I told you in the Admiral's office, I see no reason to trouble you with your people's inability to accept me. I do not need their affection." She paused but still remained standing in place as if on inspection. "However if it would put your mind at rest, I have received no verbal or physical hostility."
She hated her tone and it pissed her off, "I'm very surprised that you haven't with that attitude." Alex wasn't one to keep her mouth in check, "Gads, I'm so tired of hearing how Romulans are this and Romulans are that from you."
Alex stood up, and leaned forward as she slammed her hands on the desk, "Wake up doctor. You're not on a Romulan ship anymore and the sooner you realize that, the better it will be for all of us." She exhaled as she shook her head and moved away from her desk to cool off, "And I thought that traditional Klingons and Vulcans were arrogant." Alex wasn't pleased with herself that she blew up but the doctor suggesting that humans were a weak and inferior race, it rubbed her the wrong way...big time.
Suan stood as stoically as before as Harrison berated her. The only response to the outburst was a raised brow. "Do I take this as an indication of verbal hostility?" It was said matter of factly though she would not consider it sarcasm. "I am assigned here, Captain, by your Starfleet. I request that you control your aggressive nature so that we may better be able to perform our duties. If needed, your Federation does have counselors assigned to their military if you require assistance."
"I don't need a counselor. And I have nothing against Romulans in general. What I have a problem with is you and how you deem us humans as being inferior to your race just because we don't handle things the way the Romulans do. But you're right about one thing, the Federation assigned you to our ship and I'll just have to accept it. But it doesn't mean that I have to like it." She sat back down, "So with that said, unless you have a problem that needs my department's assistance, you can just send your reports to me instead." She emphasized the word "send."
Suan continued to psycho-analyze Harrison, comparing it to what the Tal Shiar had said of human behavior. "If that is what you want then I have no problem sending you future reports. I will request you state your preference on the file you undoubtedly have on me so there will be no future misunderstanding." Her metallic looking uniform tunic caught the overhead light. She remained standing. "It is not my personal opinion of the human species, Captain, but a scientific fact widely circulated among the Typhon Pact. Humans, like Klingons, are an aggressive warlike species with emotional tendencies that if not checked, will ultimately lead to the destruction of the Alpha Quadrant. Vulcans, for an example, are a far more superior species but are assigned as submissive under human control. I do not speak of this to alarm you, Captain, but only to make you aware of your evolutionary curve toward violence."
She tilted her head sideways. For the past two centuries, propaganda had portrayed the humans, especially, in a cruel light. She assumed that the Tal Shiar was exaggerating on human cannibalism and child sacrifices in order to prevent defections. However, human violence, so she had read on the memory banks, was filled with images of death and destruction.
Alex just sat there looking at her dumbfounded. "Wow, you really believe that. Oh...kay." Alex wasn't going to argue with her anymore. She just wanted her out of her office. "I only need a report from you when you have an incident in Sickbay that needs my attention. Otherwise, you don't need to send me one." Alex leaned back in her chair, "Unless there is nothing else, I think we are done here."
Suan sighed. "I have nothing further to add to our discussion." She still had a lot to learn about humans. Her brief time with them on Cardassia had created many questions and not enough answers. Perhaps the Marine colonel she had met earlier in Sickbay could illuminate her dilemma.
"Then if there is nothing further, Captain, I will return to Sickbay."
~Finally~ Alex thought to herself, "Yeah, you do that." Alex watched Suan leave her office.
