Mission:
Mission 83 - Recovery
Location: Ensign Brody's Quarters
Timeline: Following "Away Team #1 Mission Briefing"
ON:
Ensign Brody returned to his quarters from his infiltration team's briefing. He was fairly certain that for every question they answered, two more were posed. There was a great deal of uncertainty and that never sat well with him.
He had never worked with his Security counterparts on a mission of this severity and importance. Commander Lokran seemed very confident in his abilities. Brody had never met one of his species before, so every encounter with his superior officer led to something new learned. Lokran was quiet, biding his time and allowing the others to speak before making his own feeling known in short, punctuated bursts. Brody respected this trait in his leader.
Saith gave Brody pause, however. Her twisted sense of loyalty might become problematic in the mission. They had exchanged words twice now in a short period of time. Still, she seemed to genuinely care about her peers in her own way. Hopefully with the upcoming mission behind them, he could mend fences with his fellow Ensign.
Lt. Commander Roebuck seemed a consummate Security professional. At attention and awaiting instructions. His opinions also seemed few and far between, but carrying a great deal of weight nonetheless.
K'Wor surprised Brody. He reminded him of himself in some regards. He was mature beyond his years and possessed a great deal of tactical wherewithal even if he lacked the confidence to be fully aware of said fact. Brody had read his file and knew he was not unprepared for the mission at hand.
Even though he had confidence his team would perform admirably, Ensign Brody always made sure to take measures to safeguard his own well being. He often relied on others to protect him, but his life was his own responsibility. He made certain that he would be in command of his own fate.
The Romulan uniform and disruptor sat on his bed in front of him. He knew this compliment of equipment would likely be insufficient. Brody pulled a footlocker out from under his bed, entered the combination on the keypad, and flipped the door open. He pressed an obscured button under the lid and a false bottom popped up. Revealed was a collection of banned and non-regulation weaponry.
He removed a Rigelian toxin dagger and concealed it in the lining of his right boot. This knife could paralyze with the slightest knick; its toxins extremely potent. The then took out a small pistol with blue and silver markings. Its origins were unknown even to him, but it fired dissolving neurolytic darts. Another non-lethal weapon, these darts induced a temporary and extremely painful coma. He then slid this weapon into the lining of the Centurion uniform.
Both of these weapons were contingencies and were untraceable to the Federation or Starfleet. Brody had rarely had to use such contingencies, but they were always effective. He stared at his uniform and sighed. So many unknowns.
If there was one thing Ensign Brody excelled at, it was looking out for number one.
