Mission:
Mission 82 - The Aggressor
Location: USS Avenger
ON:
Commander Coleman sat at the Engineering Station, taking a look over all of the information pertaining to the warp drive and the impulse engines. He knew that, even though it might be a simple mission of getting from point A to point B, he wanted to make sure they got there as quickly and efficiently as humanly possible.
Maal was down in the lower levels making sure all the teams where ready and knew what they where doing.
Saith watched the scanners as they approached their destination. She located the Kearsage and another ship. The readings from the unknown ship were off somehow, it did't seem right. There did not seem to be any movement and the ships just hung in space. That fact made Saith nervous, "waiting to breathe" she thought. She took a larger scan of the area wondering if the strange ship was actually the bait in a trap.
Holly was at operations on the bridge station monitoring what she could in the way of things that were going on. Something was off about this simple mission but she didn't say anything as she felt the pins and needles in the air that everyone seamed to be on. Minding her station seamed to be the best way to go. With the Commander at engineering she was able to monitor his work to some degree and see how the ship was reacting to it. All seamed well for the moment and she was hopeful that everyone would get out of this alright without a run in this time. However, optimism is rarely rewarded with results.
(After the ships leave the Kearsage)
Saith waited impatiently for the turbolift doors to open and admit her to the bridge. She quickly moved to the security station. She looked at the ships then addressed the center chair, "Sir, I have a bad feeling about the Kearsage sending ships in there. This feels like a trap. I have long range scanners going, but if the Gorn ships are cloaked we will have virtually no time to react."
Maal had finally made it down towards engineering, his team's job was to protect down in that sector in case of any boarders. Maal had his phaser rifle in his hands ready to go.
Saith was confused; she took a moment to look at her reading and then realized what was giving her such bad feelings, just like silence in the woods, “Captain, we appear to have our communications jammed!” She glanced at the Communications Officer for confirmation, at their nod she continued “The Kearsage has dispatched ships to the Buraq, I thought it was odd they hadn’t said anything even though they don’t have to tell us what they are doing, in a joint mission they should. AND even if they had decided to maintain quiet, we should be able to pick up other chatter. There isn’t any. Are we deaf? ” She looked to the Communications Officer again. “Is it us? Or are we being jammed?”
Saith looked hard at her own scans. Her gaze moved to the front screen, finally settling on Ops, “can you get a better scan of this section?” she indicated an area to the far bottom right of the screen. “It looks distorted. Is it out of range or could it be a shield? Scan it right now!” Saith realized she was giving directions where she shouldn’t be and looked nervously to the center chair, “sir?” she asked permission.
Just then her computer chimed, she answered the call from Security so that only she could hear. She gave her orders then hit her Com Badge to let Maal know what was going on.
Saith’s mind raced ahead, they really were ‘sitting ducks’ as her dad used to say. She tapped her Com Badge, “i-Ki Baratan to Sgt. Maal,” she waited for his reply.
Coleman chimed in as he looked at his console. "Not only is communication out, but we're experiencing engine trouble." He took another look at his console and said, "We've got a matter/antimatter imbalance. Trying to compensate for it, but it will take a few minutes and I don't know how long before it starts messing with the warp core. Lt. Gillo, can you help me by watching the matter/antimatter reaction for a minute?" He said as he waved her over.
"The sensors are giving as clear of a reading as they can right now unforchanitly we have to work with what we got." It was then that Holly heard the order, more or less, for her to come over and help out with keeping the ship together she yeilded her station to another officer and then quickly got over to the engineering one. "I'll watch from what operations was telling me it's not a sit and wait for it to get better situation. The moment it goes south I'll let you know so you can pull out."
Coleman nodded and began to work on the engines and trying to get them back to normal as much as humanly possible. Trying to fix them up, there were tense moments where he though the ship would fall apart underneath them all. But, within a few minutes, he was able to get the engines back to a state where they could work with them as much as possible without blowing up in less than a minute. He looked over at Holly and said, "How's the reaction of the matter/anti-matter coming?"
"Everything seams to be comming back on-line like it should be. Whatever you hit made it work again. At least for the moment and it's stable...sir." She was reading the information right off the board to him to let him know what was going on since he couldn't be eyes and hands for this type of a job all at once.
Saith had left the com to Maal open. “Maal, did you catch that? We are running deaf and somewhat blind although we have some sensors. If you don’t already know there are problems in the engines as well. Can you move your team into position nearer Engineering and I will have Alpha Team come up to the bridge deck. The Kearsage doesn’t know we are having trouble; they seem to have left an away team on the Buraq and are headed towards the planet. If we get boarded we won’t know it until we are staring Gorn in the face, and we will be on our own.” Once she had his response she mobilized her team to protect the bridge.
Maal tapped his badge:"I caught all that and my team is already heading to engineering. Will let you know when get there."
"Affirmative," Saith replied. She noted that her own team had made their way to this level and spread out as they had planned. The two most important parts of the ship were covered, which made her feel better.
Maal and his team reached engineering with their weapons drawn, he gave the hand signal for everyone to fan out.
Suddenly the lights dimmed, then came back up. Saith's fingers flew across the keyboard trying to find out what was going on. She glanced at the others on the bridge for any information they might have. "We have had a serious power drain, but I am unable to isolate a reason. Is this related to the earlier engineering issue?"
"I don't know. I can't get the interal senors to work with the power being drained and..." Coleman said, but suddently, the lights completly flickered off. He quickly tried to work his controls and couldn't, so he said, "I'll try to get to Engineering, so I'll try and send a message when I get down there." He walked over to the turbolift and it didn't respond, so he headed to the Jefferies Tube access in the observation lounge to head down to Main Engineering.
"We have multiple security forces down there, so don't startle them." Saith said as she watched Coleman open the Jefferies tube. "I-ki Baratan to all Security teams, hold positions, be vigilant, Alpha team, one and two come to the bridge, turbo lifts are out. Secure access into and out of the area." She did not even look at the center chair, he would either let her order Security to the bridge or write her up after; she didn't care which if they were sitting ducks.
