Captain Andrew Clifford
Lt Colonel David Hurd Sr

guys, I've changed part of my text. I really wanted Colonel Hurd to elaborate on his misgivings.

***** USS Kearsage - Captain's Ready Room *****

Lt Commander Torilla Yamaguchi sighed as she walked onto the bridge as the bell tolled the hour in which she was due to deal with Captain Clifford, she had a guess that this would an overdramatic screaming match in which the conversation was going to be loud and one directed, she was already sick of this assignment and had been here only sixty minutes. That had to be a new record.

As Far as she was concerned, this mission wasn't even a mission as less then a overdramatic patrol operation, designed for what?, she wondered as she walked onto the bridge, scare off the Gorn... Ooh with two Intrepid class ships, whoever came up with this plan was either on drugs or just dreaming.

She missed her youngest child as she felt she was rapidly becoming an unfit mother as she was now never home and she found herself repressing another wave of rage.

She looked out over the bridge as the lift doors opened she sighed softly as she stepped forward, within moments she was standing before the ready room doors as she took a moment to calm down, she then tapped the door chime.

Andrew was watching the security camera footage of the incident in the boarding ramp as the chime went.

"Enter!", he didn't look up straight away but as Lt Cmdr Yamaguchi entered, he pointed to a seat, "Sit down Lt Cmdr, If you wish you may help yourself to a drink from the replicator".

Yamaguchi considered it but she decided she wasn't intrested as she sat down, she would eat later.

He had finished watching the video, so tapped a key on the console to close it.

Just then the chime went again, and the Lt Colonel arrived. Andrew bid him enter and offered him a drink. He waited until they were both seated, then began. "I have several things to cover here, but first I want to talk about your conduct earlier". He looked over at the colonel as he punched up a picture of him standing there with his hand on his phaser.

It displayed on the screen behind Clifford, but visible to the other two officers.

"What were you going to do, Colonel? Challenge him to a duel? That pose would be enough to rattle any security officers cage, and from one of my senior officers is not appropriate".

Hurd sat there, listening to the Captain, until he indicated it was his turn to speak. Looking straight in the Captain;s eyes, he replied, '' No sir I was not. The security officer became hostile, and I was just positioning myself to protect Both Commander Yamaguchi and myself.'' After pausing for a short moment he continued. ''Sir, there is a reason why that man acted the way he did. At one time, and maybe he still is, he was working for Section 31. If you have the clearance, as I'm sure you do, I will give you the details of that mission, and files pertaining to them. My point sir, is if he had gotten away with killing me, he would not have stopped there sir''

Andrew frowned as he took the information in, people from Section 31 was not welcome on his ship, especially in security. "In that case you acted correctly, and I withdraw my comment. I do have the clearance required, so before we reach our destination you can brief me on him. Of course that then throws up the question, what is he doing on the Kearsage?"

Col. Hurd looked at the Captain, and said, ''Yes sir, that is a rather good question.'' ''I will attempt to breif you as well as i can sir''.

Andrew turned to Lt Cmdr Yamaguchi, "And you Lt Cmdr, what were you waiting for? You had your rifle on stun but you dithered, why?"

Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow. "I had not anticipated trouble. I also did not expect to have to shoot either one of them... and shooting the Colonel would have landed me in a cell sir..."

Andrew shook his head, "I do not consign my senior officers to the brig unless there is a very good reason. You had witnesses and video evidence to back you up" He paused for a second, then went on, "But consider which is preferable. You in a cell or the Colonel in the sickbay or worse."

Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow as her mental proceeses slowed to a halt. "You make a fair point sir... next time... I will use more force sooner."

"To move on. As you are both aware we are heading to the Gorn border with a ship that is going to be at a disadvantage against Gorn ships".

Col. Hurd sighed and said, this shall prove to be fun''.

Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow. "I will need a roster of the crew so I know so to offend with upgrades and improvements to the ship sir. like sensors and weapons, shields and engines... I'm going to make sure we are ready for a fight... if the Gorn want to bring the rain, I want us to have an umbrella made from the hardest material known to science, Sir."

Andrew smiled, "Permission granted on the personnel side of it. Don't make any changes to the ship at this time. I would rather with a weak umbrella, than one that is being rebuilt. Whatever you have planned remember we arrive at Cetus III in about 26 hours time. From there I expect it go get interesting very quickly. I hope I'm wrong."

He then turned to the Colonel, "If we have to engage the Gorn, I believe it is very likely we will get boarded, so I would like you to take charge of preparations to best repel any boarders. Of course I would not expect you to carry out the duties of first officer, so would have you operating separately from the ships chain of command. If it then came to being boarded, we would run the ship while you ran the defence of the ship, with the ships security and marines.

Col. Hurd looked at the Captain, and said, ''Sir, that sounds good to me.'' ''My only question is, to what extremes am I allowed to go to repel boarders?''

Andrew hadn't expected that question, "I have never gone up against the Gorn before, but my understanding is that they are pretty ruthless. You are therefore allowed to be as ruthless as you have to be to defend the ship and its personnel."

Yamaguchi decided to interrupt. "Sir, I'd also like to train some of the security staff in hand to hand combat training, I have my own style and it will benefit others to learn of it." she explained. "If my youngest can handle a guy twice her size and mass... then I can teach others..." She paused for a second, "Also... I'd also start looking into the possibility of designing new hardware... long term of course.."

Andrew nodded, "Agreed, but no changes to the ship that can't be completed in 20 hours. Liaise with the Colonel on training, he is in charge of that." He looked at the two officers, "Unless there is anything else, we better get to work"

The two officers shook their heads, so Andrew dismissed them and sent them off to return to duty.

Andrew watched the two officers leave then got up and headed for the bridge. This was going to be interesting, he thought as the door closed behind him.
