Mike walked up to Counselor Dallas’s Officer door and pressed the chime.
"Come in," Karyn called. The doors opened and Karyn offered a simple hello before asking him to take a seat.
Mike walked and took a seat, letting out a deep breath. Mike didn’t like talking about his feelings and emotions. It was hard enough dealing with the loss of two of his kids, but having to relive that loss over and over again while talking about it and how it made him feel was…unwelcomed.
"How are you coping?" It was more to the point than the silly inquiry into how he was.
“I’m doing fine, thank you.” Mike replied, “I’ve stayed busy with work. We’re planning to take them home to Earth in a few days for the burial.”
Karyn nodded, offering, "I'm sure you're still in shock, but please know, when this hits you, it's ok to seek support from others. It isn't a weakness."
Mike nodded, and a part of him understand, but a part of him also felt like allowing people to see him upset and emotionally torn apart was a weakness...or could be turned into one...
"I guess my question is...what do I do now?" He knew 'life goes on', but between his own sorrow and Janice's depression, he wanted guidance on how to move forward.
It was the big question 'what to do now'. Move forward of course, be supportive of his wife and children. The two talked for another hour or so before Mike quickly stood up.
"Counselor, I apologize, but I have an appointment with Captain Pike."
It wasn't just the appointment, but Mike felt himself starting to get upset again, and the last thing he wanted to do was break down again. He thought the best thing would be to get back to work.
