As they walked out the door, Deela pulled aside Alex, "Okay, let's see it."
Alex kept her hands to her sides, "See what?"
"That shiny thing around your finger. Let's see it."
Alex giggled like a high school girl, "I can't hide anything from you."
"Of course not. Your emotions are on a high right now. Not to mention that you couldn't keep your eyes off Pike."
Alex raised her hand and held it out to her, "He asked me and I said yes."
"Well congratulations. When you do set the date, let me know. We'll do the whole wedding shower thing."
Alex smiled, "Okay, sounds good."
Deela had an idea, "How about dinner? We can go get Paul and go to my quarters. I'm sure Brandon would love to see Paul. "
"Okay, let's do it. "
Th picked up Paul and arrived at Deela's quarters. When they walked in, Brandon came running up to Paul and dragged him to Brandon's room. Raivyn walked over to her mom and Deela picked her up.
Alex took Raivyn from her, "You're getting so big."
"She is, isn't she? It seems like yesterday when she was this tiny baby. Now she's walking and saying words."
Vincent walked out of his room. He walked over to Alex and gave her a hug, "Hi Alex, what are you doing here?"
Alex stepped back, "I have been invited to dinner by your wife."
"Well good. You really shouldn't be such a stranger."
Deela smiled at Vincent, "Check out her finger."
He looked and then smiled at her, "So who is the lucky bloke?"
"Captain Pike. I was really not expecting it."
"It's a good thing, right?"
Alex nodded, "Yes, very good."
Vincent got dinner and they all sat down together and ate. It was nice being with other friends. After dinner, they had their coffee and sat around and talked.
"I don't know. We just got back from one mission and now we are going on another one." Alex complained.
Vincent looked up t his wife, "You are all leaving again? You all just got back."
Deela seemed a little lost in thought. Alex continued the conversation, "I know bit things happen out of our control. Dee, how dangerous is this mission."
Deela didn't answer right away, "Dee? Hello? Anybody home?"
Deela didn't smile once she turned to her, "As with any mission, it has it's risks. Dealing with the Jem Hadar and Vortas, who knows what will happen."
Alex could tell something was bothering her but she waited for Vincent to retire to the bedroom. It got late and everyone retired except Deela and Alex. They sat on the couch.
Alex started, "Look, I'm not Betazoid but I can tell that something is otering you. What is it?"
"You're right. Seeing that Jem Hadar, it brought up some memories from a long time ago."
Alex remembered something, "Oh my god. I am so stupid."
Deela inquired, "You remember the incident on the Essex?"
"That guy you were engaged to, um, Talon, wasn't it? "
"Yes, that's the guy. We had rescued that shuttle, not knowing that he had intercepted and stolen the shipment of Ketracel White."
"That's right." Alex continued the story, "We were attacked and they were able to bring down our shields and board us. I was new and so scared."
"I remember. Anyway, that's when Talon was...murdered. Seeing them just brought it all back. I'll be fine."
"So you're just going to tuck it all back into that Vulcan side."
Deela nodded, "Something like that."
Alex stood up, "Well. I need to go. Maybe you should talk to someone about it, like that new Counselor we have. Just because you're part Vulcan, you still have a human and Betazoid side."
Deela nodded, "When did you become so wise?"
"Life lessons have taught me well. I guess I'd better go. I have to prepare for this next mission."
"Me too." They hugged and Alex left for her quarters to get some sleep before the big event.
