Mission:
Mission 80 - Outpost
Location: Bridge Uss Sutherland
Timeline: Morning after 'Outpost'
Andy entered the bridge from the turbolift, he was wearing full dress uniform with all ribons and medals... This was his time... the one he had waited for so long... his own command.
He exit the turbolift and was saluted with "BRIGADE GENERAL ON DECK!!!"
"At ease", he answer not yet used to the rank
He looked at his soon to be crew and said "My name is Brigade General Andrew Jones II, and I'm your new commanding officer, Adm Bremer and Vadm T´Lar are coming towards here in an hour for the command change... I want this bridge prepaired... Everyone back here in 20 minutes Dress uniform, ribbons and meddals"
"AYE AYE SIRRR!!!", was the answer of the crew
It was early morning, just after Zero-Seven Hundred hours, but Mike had been awake for over an hour already. He’d looked over the plans for dealing with the possible Dominion forces on Iconia, boarded the Pegasus and verified the ship was ready to go, and now he was boarding the Starship Sutherland.
The Sutherland was a proud vessel. Having served Starfleet for many years, in both peace and war. She’s been temporarily commanded by Commander Data during the Klingon Civil War during the blockade of the preventing the Romulans from aiding the Duras Family. Later she fought against the Borg, Klingons, Dominion, and Borg again. Now, she was a diplomatic vessel. Internal systems had been overhauled and extra facilities installed for VIPs and high level meetings. It meant her civilian accommodations had been scaled back some, but serving out of Starbase 400 instead of being an independent command meant they really weren’t needed anyway. However, the Sutherland still had teeth! Her weapons systems were untouched and she still sported the weapons pod on her upper pylon.
Mike stepped aboard the ship and was greeted by the Officer of the Deck at the airlock. He nodded to the Vulcan and proceeded to the turbolift. He straightened his uniform as he stepped inside…he really didn’t like wearing his dress whites. They always felt too tight in the neck, but this was a special occasion and dress uniforms were called for.
As the doors to the lift opened and he stepped onto the Bridge of the USS Sutherland, he saw General Jones standing to the side looking over a ship’s systems report.
The Officer at Tactical saw Mike enter, “Admiral on the Bridge!”
“At ease.” Mike quickly replied.
Andy Noticed the Admiral and saluted him after that he said "Sir nice to have you here."
Mike returned the salute, "Thank you. Have you had a chance to look around?
"Just a little... I see that you assigned Lt Cdr Brisslan and Lt Gallo for this mission sir", answered Andy
"I did. I wanted to make sure each ship had good Officers assigned, and with the Sutherland having one of the larger Sick Bays, along with the Pegasus and Essex, I wanted to be sure to have a good Doctor staffed in case we have wounded.
VAdm T'lar was running late. It was very rare for her to be late until today. She threw on her dress uniform, brushed her hair and darted out of the room. Hastily, she made her way to the USS Sutherland and into the turbo lift. She only had a few seconds to catch her breath and pull herself together.
When the turbolift arrived at the bridge, the door opened up to reveal a slightly uncomfortable VAdm T'Lar who then stepped off the lift. She saw that Bremer was already there with Jones, conversing.
Mike glanced over as Deela entered the Bridge, "Welcome aboard" Mike said with a smile. He knew the Officers on the Bridge wouldn't call the room the attention again, a higher ranking officer than Deela was already there, so the least he could do was welcome her himself.
Deela was relieved that they didn't announce her. She always hated protocol. Deela moved towards Bremer and Jones, "Thank you. Good to be here." She looked at Jones and nodded. Looking around, "So, how do you like your ship and crew so far?" She wasn't sure how much he had seen of the ship.
"Well to be certain I haven't been able to meet them but from reputation they are a fine crew... I need to know them a little but I'll have Cdr Brislan with me here as a familiar face," answered Andy.
"That's good. A familiar face is always helpful."
Mike smiled, “Well, how about we get this show on the road?”
"Please Lead the way sir...", he said looking at Bremer
Mike nodded and the group walked to the turbolift. After a few moments they arrived on Deck Ten and make their way to Ten Forward.
A small gathering of some of the Officer permanently assigned to the Sutherland as well as Officers assigned just for the upcoming mission were present. The ship’s mess personnel had set up a table with appetizers and drinks. Since it was almost Zero-Eight Hundred hours, the theme of course was breakfast. There were choices ranging from Human to Vulcan, Andorian to Bajorian.
Of course, as they entered the room was called to attention again, but Mike quickly but everyone back at ease as he stepped up to a small podium near the front of the room.
“Thank you all for coming.” Mike began. “By order of Starfleet Command, as of this data, Stardate 66315.6, Brigadier General Andrew Jones II, you are here-by requested and required to take command of the USS Sutherland, NCC-72015, based out of Starbase 400. Congratulations.”
Mike stepped back as the group that was gathered clapped.
Deela could sense the excitement that Jones was feeling as well as her own for him. She applauded, adorning a big smile on her face. Andy had talked about wanting a ship of his own to command and now it was a reality. She felt like a proud mother.
Andy Stood up and stepped into the podium "I would like to thanks Admiral Bremer and Vice Admiral T'Lar for being here at this very important moment with me... Just on the sideline I would tell you both that I wouldn't let any of you down... To the Sutherland crew I'm very proud of being appointed your CO I wouldn't wanted any other way... Once again Thanks", he said before emotion begun to show in his voice
Mike smiled and clapped again. It was a short speech, but well said. Now, it was time to prepare to depart.
Mike shook Andy’s then Deela’s hands before excusing himself. He wanted to have one last meeting with Sisko and Odo before the Task Force departed in a few hours.
Andy Stood down from the podium and proceed to the bridge... After all they where in a hurry
