Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: USS Avenger
Timeline: Following 'Rescue Mission Part 1'

On:

Captain Greenwood, Ensign K’Wor, and the rest of the security team had just headed to the transporter room in order to get to the pirate ship and get Major Hurd off the ship and back safely to the Federation.

Commander Coleman thus, was left in command of the Avenger. Coleman walked over to Barker and said, "Be prepared to get us out of here in a tight one Lieutenant."

Aye Commander I have already set a course back SB400" Lily said.

K’Wor and Greenwood entered the Transporter Room and geared up. Type-II Phasers, Phaser Rifles, Tricorders. K’Wor then picked up a small carry bag, and put the strap over his left shoulder so the strap was diagonal across his chest and bag itself was on his right side. When he turned around to see the Security Team, he was surprised to see one of them, the same Lieutenant JG that he’d encountered when he boarded the Avenger for the mission.

“Everyone know their assignments?” Greenwood asked. Everyone replied quickly with a ‘Yes Sir’, but then the Lieutenant JG added something.

“Captain, request permission to be a part of Ensign K’Wor’s team.”

K’Wor looked back at the older Human. The Lieutenant JG looked back at K’Wor, and gave him a respectful nod.

“Granted. Lieutenant Mays, you’re with Ensign K’Wor.” The Captain quickly replied, then he looked up at the Transporter Chief. “Energize.”

Seconds later, the group materialized aboard the Dagger class raider. Everyone had their weapons ready, scanning. The corridor was clear, so they moved forward. A few meters later, they came to an intersecting corridor. Greenwood pointed to two of the Security Officers and directed them to follow him to the left, the other two followed K’Wor to the right.

Coleman nodded as he headed over to Ops and said, "What's the status of our security team?"

"So far they have landed and are doing well, sir." Holly responded after checking over her readings of the transport of the team.

The Avenger shook from a hit delivered by the Blade class raider. The Officer at Tactical reported, “Commander, direct hit to Engineering. Lieutenant Graham is dead. I’m returning fire sir.”

Phasers lanced out and punched back at the Blade class raider. The Pirate vessel turned away as a photon torpedo from the Avenger impacted it’s aft section.

K’Wor’s team continued slowly. As they neared a door way, one of the Security Officers scanned the interior with his tricorder. When the room was empty, they continued forward. If the room had people inside, they scanned for Human life-signs, but so far they hadn’t found any. After a few minutes, they came to a room labeled ‘Computer Core’.

K’Wor stopped and motioned to the door. Mays scanned the interior and found one person inside, an Andorian. Mays started to walk on, but K’Wor shook his head, then whispered. “Stay here.”

Mays looked at the younger Acting-Ensign with a confused expression, but followed orders. K’Wor tapped the door controls and opened the door. He quietly entered the room and looked around. He didn’t see the Andorian, but he could hear him.

“Krass, hurry up, I need help with data relays to the Bridge, they’re going offline again.”

K’Wor heard the man stand up, so he ducked behind one of the computer terminals. As the Andorian walked by calling for his comrade again, K’Wor stood up and walked up behind him. He wrapped one of his arms around the man’s neck and then the other around his head, locking his arms together. The Andorian started to struggle, trying to break the head lock, but K’Wor continued to apply pressure. A moment later, the Andorian’s body went limp and he collapsed to the deck unconscious.

K’Wor then hide the man behind on of the computer terminals in a corner, then proceeded to set the four photon charges he’d brought along. Two he placed on the lower back side of the computer core itself, a third on one of the data ports that connected the core to the rest of the ship’s systems, and the fourth to the EPS conduit that fed power to the core.

As he turned to leave, he paused and walked over to the computer terminal. He brought up an internal schematic of the Dagger class raider. He recorded the data on his tricorder, then sent the information over to the other members of the Away Team’s tricorders as well. Now, they had a detailed internal map for the new class of Pirate raider.

After recording the information, K’Wor stepped back out into the corridor. Mays smirked, glancing at his tricorder’s new map. K’Wor nodded back to Mays with a smile. As the three man group turned to walk away, they heard someone from around the corner, “Hey, what are you doing there…Starfleet!”

K’Wor and Mays quickly took cover as the man raised a disruptor and fired. The third member of their team, Ensign Adams was hit in the hip and fell to the deck. Mays pulled the wounded man out the way as K’Wor fired back with his rifle. A few seconds later, three more pirates joined the first at the far end of the corridor firing on the Starfleet team. K’Wor and Mays returned fire, and one of the Pirates was hit in the chest.

"The away team is having difficulty. We're holding our own here as best we can but I can tell that if we don't get out of here soon or somewhere close to it we might fail this sir." Holly was calmly relaying what her computer was telling her focusing on the job at and and blocking all other thoughts and emotions. Now was not the time for her to become compromised.

Meanwhile, Greenwood’s team continued their sweep of the third deck. Rounding a corner, they saw a man standing guard in the corridor. Ryan raised his rifle and fired, hitting the man. He spun to the deck, stunned.

As the group neared the door, the ship shook from a phaser blast from the Avenger.

“We need to hurry, they must have engines back online.” Ryan said to the team.

One of the Security Officers opened the door, but as he stepped in, he was quickly cut down by a phaser beam from another man inside. Ryan and the other Security Officer took position outside the door. Ryan glanced inside the door. He saw Hurd sitting in the middle of the room in a chair, slumped over, a needle in his arm. Ryan looked back at the Officer with him and counted, “One, two, three.”

Ryan and the Security Officer both moved into the doorway. Ryan was standing, the Security Officer was kneeling. As they took aim with their rifles, the Pirate inside the room fired his weapon, but it harmlessly hit the wall beside the door. The aim of the Starfleet Officers was better, both hit the man in the chest, sending him back against the far wall, then he crashed to the deck.

Ryan slung his rifle over his shoulder as he entered the room. He removed the needle from Hurd’s arm and undid the arm and leg restraints. He lifted the man over his shoulder and stepped back toward the corridor when he heard another phaser blast outside. The Security Officer ducked inside the room with Greenwood and Hurd as the Captain tapped his comm-badge. “Greenwood to Avenger, three to beam out.”

Within seconds, they were back aboard the Avenger. A medical team was there and they rushed Hurd to Sickbay.

“Where’s K’Wor’s team?” Ryan asked the Transporter Chief.

“Still aboard the Pirate vessel sir.”

Ryan nodded as he headed for the Bridge. When he arrived he saw Barker on the deck, a medic with her, but she was already dead. “Report.”

"Holding our own sir. Glad you're back." She kept herself focused on the panel but made sure he knew that he was indeed missed by the crew. His presence on the bridge seamed to relax everyone just a notch down.

K’Wor checked the power cell on his rifle, it was low. He and Mays had been firing nearly nonstop. They had managed to take out four of the people firing at them, but other Pirates had arrived to take their places.

“We can’t stay pinned down here.” Mays said as he fired another shot. “We need to call for a beam out.”

“We can’t, too much interference from that damaged power coupling over there. We need to get at least ten meters away.” Ensign Adams replied, his face shown the pain he was under from his wound.

K’Wor looked at his map, “There’s no way out of here except passed them.” He checked his power cell again, then removed it from the rifle. “How good of a shot are you Lieutenant?”

Mays looked at K’Wor for a moment, and smirked, “Good.”

K’Wor pulled out his side arm, and then he and Mays opened fire. K’Wor stunned one man, and Mays another. Then K’Wor tossed the power cell down the corridor. It hit the deck and slid closer toward the Pirates. One saw the power cell coming toward him, and he turned around to run back down the corridor. Mays took careful aim and fired. His shot hit the power cell and caused an explosion that rocked the deck. As smoke and vapor cleared, K’Wor could see that the remaining Pirates were all down.

Mays picked up Adams and he followed K’Wor down the corridor. They rounded the corner and then ducked inside a door way.

K’Wor tapped his comm-badge, “K’Wor to Avenger, three to beam out!”

K’Wor looked down at Adams, “We’ll get you to Sick Bay…” but before he could finish he saw Adams had died. A second later he felt the tingle of the transporter beam grabbing him and in the blink of an eye he was back aboard the Avenger.

“Captain wants you on the Bridge.” The Transporter Chief said quickly.

K’Wor looked down at Adams body, he’d never lost someone under his command before and the young man was shook up, but Mays patted him on the shoulder and they headed for the Bridge.

As they arrived on the Bridge, Greenwood looked back at K’Wor.

“Mission accomplished sir.” K’Wor replied quietly.

Ryan could see the young man upset, but they still had work to finish. “Do it Ensign.”

K’Wor pulled out his tricorder and tapped in a few commands, a moment later the Officer at Tactical spoke up.

“Captain, internal explosions detected aboard the Dagger, they’ve lost all computer control, looks like their computer core just suffered a massive overload and exploded. I didn’t think we hit them that hard sir.”

K’Wor nodded to the Tactical Officer as he took over the position. “Confirmed sir.”

“Then let’s get out of here, Helm set course for Starbase 400, warp nine!” Greenwood ordered.

The Intrepid class ship turned on a dime, its warp nacelles pivoted up, and the ship shot away at warp speed. The Pirate vessels didn’t pursue.

“Captain,” Mays said, “The kid did good sir.” He smiled and nodded to K’Wor, but the young Acting-Ensign could only force a half smile in return. He felt if he’d done more, Adams would still be alive. He felt Adams death was his fault.

“Good work everyone, now let’s get home.” Greenwood said as he leaned back in his chair.
