565 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: Marine Baracks
Timeline: After the Explosion

Tressa watched as the Tralazar climbed nimbly over the wreckage. She and the medics tried to keep his pace, but found themselves clumsily moving over broken beams and twisted plastic. She checked her tricorder.

"Can you see them, Commander? Tric says they are close," she called to him, hoping he would stop so she could catch up.

"Yes, they are trraped in there." said R'nard. "A few are burried under debrris, but othewise look unhurt for now." He leaped down from a pile of wreckage. He had been trained well by his masters.

"Can you come thrrough? he trilled.

"I think so," she replied, nearly falling over smoking panel. A moment later she had caught up to him. They could hear the medics behind them. A low groan made them both turn, and Tressa saw Lokran's ears twitch as he located the sound.

"I'll follow you," the doctor said softly.

R'nard turned to where the sound came from. He was still clad only in his fur, ready for anything. Then, another aspect of his lifetime of training in the monastery on Procyon III came to the forefront.

There was somebody trapped under the wreckage. The Tralazar knelt down beside him . "We'll get you out. But you must calm yourrself." He closed his eyes and intoned a mantra meant to soothe and relax one. It would make it easier to pull the man out. He laid a furry hand on the trapped crewman while he waited for the doctor to arrive.

Tressa climbed after R'nard, quickly scanning the trapped man.

"We need to get him back, he has two puncture wounds," she said softly. The man had gone quiet listening to the calming sounds. She motioned to the medics behind her who began to clear the wreckage. Moments later the victim was transported back to sickbay with a medic.

"That was amazing," Tressa said to R'nard, "He seemed almost in a trance, and his vitals were steadying."

R'nard opened his eyes and looked at Tressa. "Thank you. It's a lesson anybody can learn. Master B'roo taught it to me at the monastery. It's something to rrrelax and contrrrol pain." he trilled. "My discipline is not all about fighting. It is designed to create harmony with the universe."

He looked around to see if anybody else was hurt.

Tressa scanned for life signs again, locating another victim further back near the site of the explosion. She and the remaining medic scrambled after the nimble Tralazar.

"He's unconscious, concussion and crush trauma. There's something piercing his leg," she said, after the initial medical scan. "We need to move him out from under that wall."

"Please help me." said R'nard, as he attempted to move him. "We don't want him to rremain here, it's not safe."

The doctor gently moved the man's leg, holding the piece of metal that was protruding from his thigh.

"He isn't losing blood right now but he is in shock, I need to get him in surgery." She turned to the medic who had just caught up to them. "Continue the search, I'll have another team sent down to you."

The medic nodded as Tressa bent over the man, preparing for transport.

"Excuse me, Commander. My work is done here." said R'nard. "I must go out and lead a team to the other ship."

"Thank you Commander," Tressa said.

Seconds later they were gone.
