Harrison, Baratan, and K'Temoc had made their way to the Bridge of the Steadfast. It was the first time K'Temoc had been on the Bridge of a Diligent class ship before.
Similar in design to the Defiant class, the Bridge was well laid out for a warship. The Conn position was forward. Going left to right around the Bridge was Tactical II, Operations, Engineer, Port Egress door, the rear wall mounted Master Situation Monitor, Starboard Egress door, Science, Mission Operations, and Tacical I. And in the middle of the room, the Captain's Chair.
K'Temoc looked around, he kind of liked the two extra Bridge positions the Diligent offered over the Defiant...but he still prefered the Yorktown. He noticed Tactical II was empty and he walked across the Bridge and took a seat. He glanced at the current personnel on the Bridge watching him. Obviously, word of his 'adventures' aboard the Station prior to the Steadfast's departure has made it to their ears too. K'Temoc just smirked as he took his seat.
As he faced the Tactical II station, the comm beeped, as if on que. "Captain, we have an incoming transmission from Starbase 400. It's the Admiral on a secure channel." K'Temoc turned and looked back at Harrison...it had been a long time since he was the one working a duty station and reporting to the Ship's CO...
Alex looked back at K'Temoc and acknowledged him, "Put him on screen."
Saith moved to a position slightly behind K'Temoc. There was no seat available here, but she did not mind standing. She would also be near K'Temoc should she need to intervene in anything.
Admiral Bremer's face flashed onto the screen. "Captain Harrison, I see your passenger made it safely aboard, along with someone else." Mike looked at his brother and the two men shared a smile, then Mike glanced at the Ensign Baratan.
"Ensign, I am sorry you were caught up in this, and I hope no harm has come to you. I'm sure Captains K'Temoc and Harrison can fill you in, if they haven't already." Mike added.
"I am well Admiral. The situation could not be helped. I have been . . .," Saith paused, "ah . . . briefed." She glanced at Captain Harrison.
"Alex, everything running smoothly so far?" Mike asked.
"So far, so good. Everything is quiet right now." But she knew that at anytime things could change.
Mike nodded, "Good. We've had a little action here since you left. A human male dressed in a Starfleet Security Officer's Uniform attempted to gain access to K'Temoc's quarters earlier. He stated he was looking for Ensign Baratan, to check on her...before he ran off and Mr. Lokran and I had to catch him. He's sitting in the Brig now, I'm about to head down there to question him."
Alex nodded, "As soon as you find out anything, let us know. The only thing that concerns me is that he might not be the only one working for Clark. We're keeping an eye out just in case."
"I did not have the opportunity to meet anyone on board before being called to the restaurant." Saith said to no one in particular. The implication was clear, the man would not have known her nor known where to find her unless he had seen the incident at the restaurant. She had to admit to herself she was also a little put off by someone thinking she might need checking on. She frowned. Realizing that she was frowning, she tried to replace it with a neutral expression.
"Hmm." Alex continued, "Posing as a security guard, no one would give him a second look being there if it hadn't been that we were already expecting someone to pull something. I'm wondering. If he was supposed to check on K'Temoc and see if he was really in his quarters, then I suspect that he was supposed to report his findings to someone. But you caught him before he could do either. I'm sure that whoever it is, they're expecting him to do so."
Mike nodded, “We were thinking the same thing, and that transmission will be sent shortly. One other thing, the Avenger is also heading into the Triangle. Major Hurd was taken hostage from the Essex Away Team, but the ship was damaged before they were able to rescue him. Since the Avenger is already in the area, they are picking up the trail. You shouldn’t cross their path though. Good luck, Bremer out.”
The screen flashed back to the starscape as K’Temoc looked back at Baratan. “Believe me now?” He flashed a smile then looked over at Harrison, “Captain, I suggest we get to it.”
Saith raised an eyebrow, "that doesn't meant you're off the hook . . . Captain," she said but smiled as she turned around and went to find someone to assign her quarters while she was on board.
Saith thought it strange that she sort of liked K'Temoc because she had always been sure she hated Klingons, all Klingons, even half Klingons. So why did she find him amusing? Maybe it was because he was a challenge. Perhaps she could be a friend to a Klingon after all. Her human father would be proud.
