Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: Essex/Yorktown
Timeline: Present

USS Yorktown...

Alex had been trying to help with repairs but was interrupted by a call from her son. He had been on the base by himself while she was gone. He spent most of his time hanging out with T'Lar's son and Vincent, her husband. He had been told that is mother's ship had been involved in an attack and he was worried. He already had lost his father. To lose his mother, well, he didn't want to think about it.

Alex sat at the monitor trying to calm herself. She was angry that they were going back to the base but she also understood why they had to go back. At least they were going after them once they got back to the base. She took a few cleansing breathes and then put her best face on for her son.

"Hi Paul, sorry I haven't talked to you lately. We had a little trouble but as you can see, I am fine."

"I'm glad that you are okay. They didn't tell me much except that your ship was in an explosion. What happened?"

"They caused some runabouts to explode. Unfortunately, We didn't catch it in time. But they'll get theirs in the end." Under her breath, she added, "I hope."

"So are you coming home soon?" Paul asked with a straight face.

"Yes, we are on our way home but I'll have to go back with them to find those who are responsible for the damage if the ship."

"It's okay mom. I understand."

Alex smiled, "You are growing up so quickly."

He rolled his eyes, "I still need you."

"I'm glad to hear that. So what have you been doing with yourself?"

"Just spending time with Brandon. His mom is out on patrol and he misses her so I have been keeping him busy. I know how he feels. But he doesn't understand that it is her job like I do."

"So, you are okay with this, good."

"Don't get me wrong. I like having you here but you told me when I first came that there would be days that you'd have to be gone for several days or more."

"I like being there with you as well. I'll be home soon. When I do, we'll go the the promenade and get some Chinese food."

"Sounds great mom. I've gotta go. I promised Brandon that I'd play some games with him."

"Okay, see you when I get back." She paused, "I love you."

"Love you back." Brandon was a bit embarrassed saying that but he knew that there would always be a possibility that she wouldn't come back from one of these missions.

Alex blew him a kiss Then the monitor went black. Alex sat back in her chair just staring at the screen that now was showing the Starfleet emblem. She wasn't sure if she wanted to scream or throw something. for now, she would do neither. A tall stiff drink sounded good to her. Maybe later.

USS Essex....

After the conversation with Bremer, she left her ready room and back to the bridge. She stood near to her chair, "Any luck on Hurd?"

"If there are any Pirate vessels out there, they're probably cloaked. I'm afraid that unless we go into the Triangle, we can't rescue him."

"Damn it. If only the sensors hadn't bugged out on us. We have another problem as well" she told Lokran, "as this one." She continued, "We need to keep our eyes open for the Starlighter. Apparently, Clark and his men caused three explosions of Sydney Class runabouts causing damage to the Yorktown. They're headed back home to SB400."

"We'll keep an eye out for it." Lokran assured her.

"Commander Clifford to Admiral T'Lar."

"T'Lar here."

"Admiral, we are running on impulse power and we have no weapons. We request a tow back to Starbase 400."

"Request granted. See you in ten minutes. T'Lar out."

One of the crew members mouth dropped, "Admiral, we have a man some where out there. We're seriously not going to leave, are we?" He was very upset and agitated.

"We have no choice. The runabout has no protection and no power to get back. Once we get back, we'll get a search party. But right now, we have a runabout to pick up and a Blade class ship with a crew who are being held by our Marines. So sit down and do your job."

He glared at her but then did as he was told. She was just as angry. But as the saying goes, the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the one.

"Let's go home."
