Episode 121 - "Where There's A Section, There's A Way"
Location: Bremer’s Office
Timeline: Current
With things currently quiet, Ariana made her way to speak with Admiral Bremer. She had a personal request having made up her mind to spend more time on station than off it. Arriving at his office door she pressed the chime.
"Enter" Mike said as he looked back to the door. "Captain let me know what you find and we'll speak again tomorrow."
The figured on the screen nodded as the screen faded to black.
“Hello Admiral” Ariana smiled warmly. “I won’t keep you long Sir, I have a personal request to make.” She paused. “I’d like to request to fill in, in Ops when needed instead of being off station when the ships go out? I passed my bridge Officer’s test a while ago so it seems fitting to ask.”
Mike leaned his head to the side for a moment, he wasn't expecting such a request. Most officers loved the chance to leave the Station on an 'exciting missing of discovery' or something or another.
"I'd be more than happy to have you work in Ops, or on the bridge of a ship, but I have to ask, why do you not want to be off the station? Mike asked.
“Don’t get me wrong Sir” Ariana offered a smile. “I do enjoy being on starships, but I’m away from my family for so long at times. I’m missing out on spending time with them when I’m off station, we eventually plan to have more children but that’s a few years away yet.”
As a family man, a single father now, Mike understood. "Family is important, and they grow up too fast. If at all possible, I'll keep you off of away mission rosters."
Ariana nodded. “I appreciate that Sir, but if it can’t be avoided and you absolutely need me I’ll go.” She offered a polite smile. “If you don’t mind me asking how are you doing? Being a single parent isn’t easy.”
"I'm good." Mike replied as he leaned back in his chair. "K'Wor was just promoted to Lieutenant Commander, Becca is returning to the Station soon after a month training on DS6 with other Medical Officers. Christopher, he really learned a lot on the trip to the Delta Quadrant with us, I think it's helped to reset his attitude and he's working toward his Starfleet Academy Entrance Exam now." Suddenly, Mike felt old....
Ariana smiled. “That’s wonderful, you must be very proud of all of them. Whilst not family I’d like to request that my trainee Krysia Kaleri be allowed to remain on station for a while? She’s not quite up to the end of her placement here with us yet, but I’ve been keeping tabs on how she’s doing and I’m quite impressed. I think she’d benefit from the extra time here instead of transferring away from us when her training time ends.”
"Put in a request for Personnel and I'll sign off on it. I'm hoping a new crop of Academy Cadets will be here in the coming days to start their new semester too. It's good to see Starfleet growing again." Mike replied.
Ariana nodded. “It is indeed. Thank you for that I’m sure Krysia will be happy to hear she can stay.”
Mike smiled and stood. As he opened his mouth to speak he was cut off by the comm.
"Admiral, there's a small ship approaching and requesting permission to dock. Admiral K'Temoc has already approved the request, but the occupants request your presence in Lower Docking Bay 2." De Luca said.
Mike tapped his Comm-badge, "On my way."
Mike looked back at Ariana, "If you're excuse me, duty calls once again."
