Episode 121 - "Where There's A Section, There's A Way"
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: 1230 Hours
ON:
Mike made his way down to Level 760. As the door to the air lock opened, Mike immediately recognized the profile of the Kaplan F17 Freighter.
"We meet again."
Mike heard from his left upon his arrival and he turned his head to see Julian.
"Someone you know?" Mike motioned toward the docking ship.
"Someone we both know." Julian smiled.
Mike cocked his head to the side as he raised an eye brow.
After a moment, the small ship secured, the door opened and out stepped three Starfleet Officers. The first was indeed someone both Bashir and Bremer knew, Worf.
Mike smiled. "Captain Worf, what brings you all the way out to Starbase 400?" He asked as the two shook hands.
"Admiral, Doctor. May I present Commander Musiker and Ensign Crusher. We should discuss that question of yours in private." Worf replied.
Several minutes later, Bremer, Bashir, Worf, Raffi, and Jack Crusher were joined by Draven in Tactical Operations.
"This is going to be a unique situation. It's not very often that Starfleet Intelligence, Fleet Command, and Section 31 cooperate, but if it's ever going to happen it's the people in this room that'll make it happen." Raffi stated.
"You're all aware of the incidents that have occurred along the Federation/Cardassian border over the last few months." Crusher added. "The Enterprise had been sent covertly to the area between Starbase 129 and Rakal Nor. It's well away from where the Kowloon's incident occurred. We were given intel that a Section 31 agent had uncovered evidence that the Cardassians were planning to annex the planet Vordan VI. It's Class M, but on the hotter side and located within the former DMZ. The Cardassians use to mine the planet for several different resources but never settled it." Jake explained.
Bashir the cut in, "That agent is own as Hexx." He gave Bremer a look, knowing Mike had previous dealings with the man. "Intel suggests that this plan is well underway, however it doesn't have approval of the Detapa Council. Communications regarding this plan were made between government officials, Cardassians military commanders, and Obsidian Order agents. Each communication ended with 'This is the True Way.'
"Is this some new faction in the Cardassian Union, 'True Way'?" Mike asked.
"We're not sure." Worf replied. "However the destabilization of area could lead to conflict, as we've seen with an increase of Klingon activity and additional Starships in the area."
Mike nodded as he studied the map for a moment. "Okay, let's get big question out of the way first. Why me and Starbase 400? We're on the other side of the Federation.
"I came here initially to make sure the Cardassians here weren't involved in this...plot. They don't seem to be and we have no evidence suggesting they're a part." Bashir replied.
"You've had many dealings with the Cardassians in your career. SB400, while in the Beta Quadrant has always been an emergency response team in itself. You've delt with situations like this before with the Klingon, Romulans, Krazzle, and others. And, if your assist, it keeps all of our assets in the Alpha Quadrant in place...just in case." Raffi replied.
"It could also draw attention, 'Why bring in Starbase 400 for an issue in the Alpha Quadrant?'" Draven asked of no one particular.
"Good question, it might." Bashir replied.
"Don't you have some big new ship here that needs a full shakedown?" Crusher asked with a smirk.
Mike also smirked, "The Yorktown. We could stow La Sirena aboard, take you back to the Enterprise, and have Command send orders to K'Temoc to take the Yorktown on a training/shakedown cruise from there."
"The Enterprise is still at the Transwarp Portal, running scans with Agnis's collective." Raffi replied. "That's still not very close to the border."
"The Yorktown could take Doctor Bashir back to DS9." Worf added.
"I've have medical meetings on Earth and a symposium at the Academy I have to attend, but you could return to DS9. That shouldn't raise many eye brows if these Cardassians do track the Yorktown's movements." Bashir replied.
Worf nodded.
"I'll have a small task force standing by if needed." Mike added.
"Remember, right now this is mostly an internal Cardassian matter. We need to get the Klingons to ease off and make sure the border isn't crossed. We don't want to pick a fight." Draven added as everyone nodded.
Before anyone else could add anything, the comm beeped. "Neelix to Admiral Bremer."
"Bremer here."
"Mister Admiral, I have everything planned for this evening. 1630 hours, Level 799, Reception Hall. All of our Senior Staff and any VIPs are invited. We'll have food and entertainment." Neelix explained in an excited tone. "And no dress uniforms, this isn't a formal event."
"Sounds good Mr. Neelix, I'll extend the invitations and see you then." Bremer replied then closed the comm.
"I'll see you all," Mike eyed Worf, "at 1630 hours."
