1,153 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: USS Essex-B
Timeline: Current

ON:

The ship had taken a slight beating, "Admiral T'Lar to engineering. Damage report."

"The ship has only minimal damage. There has been some slight damage to the sensors but we should have them back on line in a few moments."

"Keep me informed. We need those sensors back up."

(The Dagger Class Ship)
Major Hurd sat, or rather lay on the deck of the ship his Marines had just captured, he was slowly drifting in and out of it, partly because of his wounds, and partly because of the pain killers the medics had given him. As he lay there, he thought, when his mind was clear enough, about the fight that had just taken place, and the Marines he had lost. ''Going to have to write some letters, and make a visit to each man's family in person'', he thought, dreading the task, which was one of the hardest things a commanding officer had to do when people under him died in battle.

A short time later, the medic walked over to him, re-checked his vitals, and said, ''We are going to transport you to the ship in a moment, sir''. Major Hurd nodded his head, and said in a shaky voice, ''Thank you''.

(Back at Sickbay)
A Pirate ship decloaked a few seconds before the Essex beamed Hurd aboard. The Essex had no sensors and it couldn't be seen on the view screen.

"Acknowledged. Standing by," said Rachael. Then they cloaked again.

Rachael waited a few minutes. "I am waiting for Hurd. Was he transported?"

(The Dagger Class Ship)
A few seconds later the transporter beam grabbed him and he de-materialized. When the transporter beam let go however, he was not back aboard his ship, but rather somewhere else. Grunting from the pain, he reached down to grab his phaser, growing very aware that something was wrong. Before he could yank the phaser free from his holster, the butt of a phaser rifle hit him in the back of the head, sending him into blackness once more.

(Essex Transporter Room)
The Transporter techs were scrambling around, wondering what happened to Hurd. "No. We are investigating it now. So far we can't find anything wrong with the transporters. We will let you know when we do." They all went back to diagnosing the transporter systems.

(Essex Bridge)
A Klingon Bird of Prey decloaked and hailed the Essex. "Admiral, we are being hailed."

"Put him on screen." Deela looked up at the view screen. Appearing on screen was someone who she hadn't seen for years. He wasn't your typical Klingon. He had less of a Klingon side in which he'd NEVER let anyone see. Deela had once stolen his heart...then broke it.

"Kaa'lak, qaleghqa' 'oH QaQ 'e', nuqneH?" (It is good to see you again, what do you want?)

Kaa'lak was surprised to see her. He laughed,, "Admiral T'Lar, you're Klingon has improved since I've seen you last. How long have you been in this sector of space?" His laugh disappeared as quickly as it had come. "By the look of your ship, it looks like you've been busy."

Deela chuckled, "Pirates usually wreak havoc." Her smile dwindled as well, "I suppose retrieving that Blade class vessel from Klingon space is out of the question."

(Runabout)
Andrew and Tressa continued away from the battle area, leaving the now almost stationary Essex behind them. Tressa had now taken over the helm and Andrew was looking at the diagnostic report of the warp engines.

"Damn", he muttered. "I don't think anything short of the Starbase engineering is going to get them running again. Most of the internals have been fused." He looked over at Tressa, "What's our ETA at present speed?"

"One hour, seventeen minutes, Commander," Tressa replied, glancing at Navigation. "The computer is holding course but our speed is varying slightly as we go so ETA is approximate. I hope they opted for the warranty on this ship!" she added with a smile.

"I better let the admiral know then. We might be able to get a tow", he laughed.

Tapping his comm badge, "Clifford to USS Essex"

"Essex here, Commander". It was the comm officer.

"I assume the Admiral is busy, can you let her know that the runabout will take just under 2 hours to return to SB400. We are limited to impulse only, somebody has done a good job on the warp engines".

"Aye aye, Commander. The Admiral is talking to the Commander of a Klingon Bird of Prey that is also in the area"

Andrew closed the link and looked over at Tressa again, "That does not sound too good. I wonder what they want"

"Don't know, but it sounds like we're missing the party."

(Back on the Bird of Prey)
Kaa'lak smiled at T'Lars request, "You're right, it is out of the question."

A junior officer interrupted his conversation for a second then he looked back at the screen.

He was going to enjoy this, "Are you aware that a Hawk class ship had decloaked then cloaked again?"

One of her crew whispered in her ear, "Our sensors are offline and someone intercepted Hurd's transportation. He's missing," Deela cursed under her breath, "Damn! As soon as sensors are back on line, let me know!"

Deela kept a poker face, giving away nothing. "I'm on top of it." She looked at Kaa'lak once again, "Are you sure you can't give us back that ship? After all, they did attack us and most likely are the ones who have been attacking the other vessels."

"Hu'tegh T'Lar, do you think you're the only ones who have lost ships to these marauders?"

"No, I don't. I just want what is rightfully ours." She could see that he wasn't going to give in to her, "Nevermind, you can have her...a little trophy for you."

Kaa'lak waved dismissively at the screen, "It is not yours to give T'Lar. These verengan Ha'DIbaH are going back with me, where they will receive the attention they deserve." When he smiled, she knew that he had something in mind for the pirates.

Deela was signaled that the sensors were on line again. "Klingon justice, fantastic. Well Kaa'lak, I would love to continue this conversation but I have things to do. I'm sure you won't think of me as rude if I cut this short." She needed to find Hurd.

"Of course, I am Klingon. Will I see you again?"

"I'll be around."

"Qapla'"

After the screen went back to the view of the stars, Deela turned to her crew, "Okay, we have already lost valuable time here. I want the area swept for any ships that might be in the area. Also check for ion trails, energy signatures or anything that would indicate a ship cloaked or not. Get on it people." Then she turned to her communications officer, "Inform Admiral Bremer of our situation."

"Aye sir."
