Episode 119 - "Shattered Mirror"
Location: The Mirror Universe
Timeline: Current
NB. Vox (our Dee) Dee (Mirror)
The access conduit the two used to escape Darcot's den was barely big enough for a person. Whoever designed it for this station seriously miscalculated.
"I thought the Jeffries tubes on Starbase 400 were claustrophobic, but this is ridiculous. " Vox commented as she struggled to crawl and not get stuck as she followed Dee.
"What's a Jeffries tube?" Dee asked.
"It's one of these, but we call them Jeffries Tubes as the original ones back in the 22nd century were designed by a renowned engineer called Matt Jeffries," Vox explained.
They arrived at a junction with a left, a right, and a climb up. Dee paused. "I usually take a left here to escape things, but you need to find your friends. So, if we go up, we might be able to get to Marine HQ. One of Darcot's goons mentioned something about the Marines being on assignment, so there might not be many up there. Does that help?" She asked.
"It might. Some of my colleagues might be around there, so that would work if we could find them." Vox replied.
"OK, up it is," Dee replied. The two started the climb.
After what seemed like hours but was actually only 40 minutes, Dee stopped and pushed a hatch open. It swung outward, clattering on the side of the wall.
Suddenly, bright lights were shining at them through the open hatch.
“Up against the wall,” Ezekiel called out. The team was in place, and they were ready to shoot if needed. He needed to confirm if it was their Dee or the Mirror Universe Dee. Show me, after watching the first Dee come up the ladder, the second one starting to come up with her hands also raised and up against the wall.
“Woah there, General”, Vox spoke up as she came out of the hatch directly behind Dee. The two stood against the wall. Seeing two of them must have been an odd sight for Zeke.
“It's me, Zeke. I'm Vox, and this is my mirror counterpart, Dee. You can scan me for my symbiont if you need confirmation. Dee helped me escape. It's a long story, but what is clear is that I probably need some medical attention when it's safe to do so. “ She added.
“Are you okay, Dee?” Ezekiel asked. He looked around, making sure nobody else was trying to come up the hatch. He motioned with his hands for his men to secure the hatch.
“I am a little worse for wear but fine.” Vox replied. “Me too,” Dee chimed in. Turning to Vox, “You’re joined? “ she asked. “Yes. I am Deezell Vox.” Dee looked somewhat shocked. “Darcot regularly hires an assassin to take out anyone in his way. The guy is expensive and lethal. He’s Galjan Vox, a Trill like me and you.” She added.
“Interesting. Let's hope he’s not at the station today, “Vox replied. Dee turned to Zeke. “Erm, General, it's likely our escape has been noticed by now, and Darcot and his goons could be on the hunt.” Vox nodded. “Dee’s right. No match for you and your team, but a nasty bunch nonetheless.” Vox added.
“Then let's proceed with the rest of our mission.” Ezekiel said, as he looked over to Vox and over to Dee. They look identical to each other, it would be really hard for him to tell them apart all right if they hadn't told him who was who.
“Agreed. Let's get moving. “ Vox replied.
“If I can help, I will. I owe Vox here, so there's that.” Dee added.
“All right, Marines, let's seal this hatch,” Ezekiel called that as a submarine started to use its phasers to mould the bulkhead around the hatch.
“So, the Dee from this universe, you want to lead the way?” Ezekiel asked is he looked over to the Mirror Universe version of Dee.
“I am just a civilian here; this is the Marine HQ. I will do my best, but I know as much about the layout of this deck as you do. “ Dee responded. “But, considering there does not appear to be much back that way”, she pointed left behind herself. I saw we go this way.” She pointed right and started walking with Vox to her left. She leaned to Vox. “I hope your friends are good because, from what I know of the Marines here, they are sharpshooters,” Dee commented.
Vox smiled.”So are ours. Some of Starfleet’s best are in this group, including Zeke.” Vox replied.
The group rounded a corner. Dee read the various signs on different doors until she came to the one she wanted. “This one here. This is Marine Intelligence. The main detachment is on assignment, but the others are probably in here.” Dee suggested.
Ezekiel motioned for one of his marines to open the door. After a few minutes they went inside. ”Secure the door for now.” He ordered as he looked over to Dee and then over to Vox.
“Let's see what we can find of interest in their files. “ Dee commented. “We will need your best hacker for this one, Zeke.” She added.
Zeke smiled as they look over to when I was Marines. “Corporal you're up.” Zeke said waiting for his hacker to acknowledge him.
“Aye sir.” The hacker said as she started to access the terran database. The files were massive and grotesque. “There is way too much information here, things I don't want to see ever again.” The Corporal said shaking her head no.
“Gran what you can that is any relevance to our universe and then purge them from their files. “ Vox replied.
As the Corporal got to work, a commotion was heard in the corridor. Dee peered around the doorway. “Shit, Darcot and his goons. As Dee pulled back from the open doorway, a long dagger, swooshed passed her, narrowly missing her left ear, lodging itself in the frame of the door. She visually gulped.
Vox pulled the dagger from the frame. She motioned Dee to move away from the doorway. The two goons appeared first, protecting Darcot. Vox tackled both of them, disarming them of their weapons, a machete and a sword. Two of the marines held them, as Vox exited the room and faced Darcot, who brandished a sword.
“You're nothing but soon you will be finely chopped meat. “ Darcot taunted her.
“Try it.” Vox replied, lunging at Darcot as the two locked swords. The two furiously fought tooth and nail. Both received deep slashes from each other's blades. Vox was suddenly pinned to the ground with little room for escape with Darcot’s sword ready for its final blow. Vox reached up and grabbed Darcot’s wrist. She used all the strength she had to push up his sword away from her, giving herself time to grab hers that was lying to her right side. She then ran him through. Darcot dropped his sword, a look of shock filled his face. He grasped the sword, now sticking through his torso, dropped to his knees and keeled over.
Vox staggered to her feet, blood pouring from wounds on her side and arm. She turned to the marines. “Time to get out of here. Download what you can and lets go. “
Ezekiel was impressed by her sword fighting technique. It was clear to him that there was more to Vox than he knew. “You hear the lady, let's get out of here.”
Has the team started to walk away, there's still tension in the air. The mirror universe was not a place to let your guard down. “You handled yourself pretty well.” Ezekiel said to Vox. They continued to walk with the rest of the Marines. His voice is low to avoid drawing any troops that might be lurking by.
“Thanks, I need some medical attention though, but when we get back. Oh and my mirror counterpart is coming too. She helped us so it's the least I can do for her is to take her away from this shithole. “
The team managed to get back to the location of the beam back co-ordinates. They got their systems working and were soon back in their own universe.
Two security officers were in the transporter room, they realised there were two Deezell’s and once the one from the mirror universe was apparent, they asked her to go with them. Vox reassured her she would be OK and that they needed to interrogate her first for any information before being allowed back into Vox’s custody.
Location: Sickbay Facilities
“I hope they're taking adequate care of you?” Ezekiel after he looked over the Vox. She had mentioned that she would need assistance. For the moment they are safe and they can start working on her treatment. He wondered how badly she was injured.
“Yeah, I am being properly patched up. I hope Dee is OK with her interrogation. She probably doesn't know while lot that would be of use to Starfleet Intelligence.” Vox replied.
“Starfleet will want to talk to you as well.” Ezekiel said, trying to break the news to her lightly. They would want to talk to everyone, in the mirror universe.
“Oh I expect a full debriefing and a long discussion.” Vox replied. The sooner she could get back to her normal job, the better.
“I think we all want that, a sense of normality” Ezekiel said, thinking about his unpleasant encounters with the mirror universe.
“Thanks for having my back by the way. Much appreciated. I owe you one, so let me know if I can be of any help to you.” Vox replied.
“I'll remember that, I'll be there to help you anytime you need it. And I appreciate the fact that you have my back as well.” Ezekiel said with a big grin on his face, he wasn't sure if he was ever going to call in that token favour but it was nice to know that he had it.
