Mission: Episode 114 - A Time and Place for Everything
Location: SB 400 Workout Facilities

Charlie Dawes jogged her way to the starbase's gym, trying to work up some motivation for her workout. Charlie knew that she'd feel better once it was over. Still, it was hard to get motivated some days, and being on a new station and out of a routine didn't help that motivation.

When Charlie entered the fitness room there were a few people on various machines and working with free weights. She took off her jacket, revealing a hot pink sports bra that matched the pink stripes on her black shorts. Her blonde hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail. Charlotte couldn't help but notice the Kelpian security officer when she entered the gym. She'd only met a couple of Kelpians before, and never had the pleasure of getting to know either of them very well. She decided to take the opportunity to see if the security officer was friendly.

Charlotte made a point to smile at the long legged Kelpian, "Hey there, I'm Charlie," Charlotte said, as she stepped up onto a nearby treadmill. Charlotte couldn't help but notice how toned and defined the woman's arms and legs were. Charlotte looked down at her own body, feeling somewhat self-conscious compared to the Kelpian.

Deezell entered the gym wearing leggings and a sports bra, both in a matching deep purple. With more skin exposed than usual, Dee's distinctive Trill markings were visible starting from the sides of her forehead, travelling down either side of her face going around her ears then down either side of her neck, over her shoulders, down and underneath the side of her bra, down the sides of her abdomen and disappearing into the leggings at the waist. She stood in the central area of the gym, trying to decide what to do first, this being her first visit since being assigned to the station. She had been doing basic exercise in her quarters but decided to take things up a notch. She stood in the corner a little lost as she took note of the different equipment lined up in the gym. She couldn't help but notice Vasha talking to a blonde woman, who Dee thought might be the new nurse. She waited quietly for a moment to introduce herself and see if maybe one of them wanted a workout partner for the day.

Vasha smiled at Charlie mid-run, showing little to no sign of fatigue so far. As a frequent gymgoer herself she knew one when she saw one - and this Charlie was most certainly one with her current physique. "Well, hello there. My name is Vasha, but please do just call me Vee. Pardon me, but are you new to the station? I'd know if you weren't; we'd have met while I patrol the station..." For such an odd, gangly-looking thing she had a surprisingly pleasant voice, soft, smooth and almost lilting in its tone.

"Are you in Security, by the way? You certainly have the build for it," She commented with a giggle. Of course, Charlie could've also been a scientist or perhaps even an intelligence officer - but she simply couldn't resist making the playful quip.

"Me?" Charlie asked incredulously, again self conscious of the fact that it looked like Vasha could throw Charlie around like a rag doll. "Oh no, new Head Nurse. I try to stay in shape, but it's hard sometimes." Charlotte sucked her stomach in, looked at her bare legs, and found herself wishing she had worn more clothes today.

Charlie noticed a trill woman with strawberry blonde hair and a young appearance standing in the corner, looking like she was unsure where to get started. "Hey," Charlie called out, nodding her head toward the trill.

Dee turned around. "I am yes. Am I ok to join you?" She asked.

"Yes, please, do join us." The Kelpien smiled at the attractive young Trill. "The more the merrier!"

Turning back to Charlote, Vasha continued, "Head Nurse! Now that's surprising - in good ways, of course. It pays to look good on the job." Vasha smiled. "Don't get me wrong. I have the utmost respect for you and anyone else who works in sickbay. Your jobs are never easy and your patients hardly ever make it easier on any of you."

Charlotte laughed awkwardly at Vasha's comment. 'Look good at my job?' Charlie thought to herself. She wasn't sure if she heard her correctly. Charlie turned to the young Trill who was getting on the treadmill next to hers. "We haven't met, I'm Charlie. Are you new here too?"

Dee headed over to them. "Hi, I'm Deezell Vox." She said introducing herself.

"Awesome to meet you," Charlie said. "You were joined unexpectedly after an accident. How's that going for you?" Charlie asked. The trill joining process was medically complex, and fascinating. There were a few joined trills assigned to SB 400, so Charlotte had tried to learn as much as she could. Still, looking at Deezell's petite figure and naive expression, it was hard to imagine that she had a large symbiote in her abdomen, and a mind that was a few hundred years old.

"I am doing well. Back home on Trill, there is a acronym used for people like me. ESH, Emergency Symbiont Host. Usually we have had no training that an Initiate usually goes through before being joined and so we have to do on the job training. One bonus for me was that as my last host, Raekwon, lived on the station for several years, I already knew the station's layout very well, despite never coming here before, well not as Deezell anyway." She replied.

"Crazy right?" Charlotte responded, smiling in what she hoped was camaraderie with Vox. Charlotte turned back and smiled at Vasha. "Thank you," she said, thinking about how Vasha had just welcomed her to join her workout. "How far do you usually run?" Charlie asked, slowly working up the speed on her treadmill.

"Oh, I usually don't count... though I've gone for about twenty or more kilometers at a time before. I didn't even notice until the treadmill console beeped." The Kelpien laughed and shook her head. "I do need a little bit more self control, I think. I felt so drained after." She then turned her attention to the Trill who'd joined them. "Well, how've you adapted since then? Surely it must feel quite like... like... deejer voo? Is that how humans say it?"

"That's one way of viewing it, but it was more of an advantage for the most part, untill, as an engineer, had to work on the empty shell that was my, Raekwon's, gallery. That was difficult. "

Charlie listened to Vox response, before chiming in. "Deja vu," Charlie corrected the Kelpian with a smile. "I'm surprised there weren't other engineers who could do that for you," Charlie said to Vox sympathetically.

Charlie's ponytail was swaying behind her as she picked up the speed on the treadmill. "Either of you ever run in the Academy marathon?" Charlie asked. "I wasn't very fast or anything, but I did a couple of times just to say I could." Charlotte's running shorts showed off her athletic runner's legs. "I can't help it, I need to lift more, but I always come back to cardio. I love how I feel after a good run."

"Right?" Vasha grinned a craggy Kelpien smile. "And yes, I did. You'll find my first place medal in my quarters - assuming you ever visit, of course." She took a moment to admire Charlotte's athletic figure before smirking and going back to her run. "Among my various other awards - but I am more than just my medals, of course."

Charlotte noticed Vasha checking her out, and let out a small chuckle and shook her head in amusement. Charlie glanced back, and thought Vasha looked like a swimmer, lean but strong. Charlie caught herself looking at Vox. She seems built like a gymnist, Charlie thought to herself.

Vasha addressed Deezell next: "Gallery? Your previous host owned... an art gallery of sorts? With paintings and sculptures and such?"

"Yes. Raekwon owned the Serenity Gallery on the promenade which is now a Bolian restaurant. " Dee replied

"You paint?" Charlotte asked, starting to get breathless from the run.

"No. I was never good at art in school to be honest. However, since being joined, I do have a desire to paint. I'm guessing that's Raekwon.. " she commented.

Dee jumped onto the nearest treadmill, set up a program and started running at a fairly good pace.

"I've taken some art classes. Just a hobby to keep busy, I'm not good or anything," Charlotte commented somewhat bashfully.

"I've got to visit the restaurant sometime." Vasha remarked. "I've always wanted to try Bolian food - though I hear a lot of it is quite sour. No matter! I'm always up for a culinary adventure, even if it burns my tongue a little!"

"I visited Bolarus IV. You know the food reminded me of Vietnamese or Korean food a little bit," Charlie commented. She realized she was starting to get out of breath from trying to run and talk at the same time. "Types of Earth food, sorry," she added apologetically, realizing she was speaking to two people who may not have tried some of the more exotic human cuisines.

Whilst still running, Dee was listening to the conversation. "I like trying new foods too" Dee advised whilst keeping focus on the readout of the treadmill. "Ever tried something called Potted Meat?" She asked.

"Is that meat that has been in a tin?" Charlie asked. Charlotte slowed her treadmill to a walk, she was breathing a little harder than she liked. "Sorry guys, I guess I am going to have to work on running and talking at the same time," she said sheepishly.

"It sounds weird to me." Vasha on the other hand stopped her treadmill entirely to take a sip of water while leanng on the handle bars. "Why would you keep meat in a pot of all things? Would it not spoil unless it was heavily salted?"

Dee stopped her treadmill for a moment. "No it's um brisket that's been cooked thoroughly and then turned into paste made of both the meat and the surrounding gravy and diced onions. It's actually quite good." Dee explained. She the started up her treadmill and continued her program.

"That sounds interesting..." Charlotte responded. She wasn't sure what the point of blending meat into a paste would be, but she didn't want to seem rude. "Dee, what kind of stuff do you normally do when you workout? You look like you might be a gymnast or a dancer," Charlie asked. After she had asked her question she turned the pace back up on the treadmill, hopeful the other two girls would talk for a minute so she could pick her pace back up and focus on breathing.

"I tend to use the treadmill first to go for a run. I then tend to use a selection of the weights machines for my legs, arms etc. I am definitely not a dancer. I couldn't dance to save my own life." Dee replied.

As Vox spoke, Charlie looked out of the corner of her eye to see how fast Vasha was running. Charlie started upping the pace on her treadmill to see if she could match her speed. She ran her fingers over the controls so she matching Vasha's speed at just over 8 km/minute. Charlie found the mental zone she needed to be in, focusing on her breathing, not really aware of her surroundings, just keeping the pace.

"Wow look at you two go" Dee commented.

Charlie turned her head to see what Dee was talking about and lost her footing and fell on the treadmill, the moving belt started to kick her backwards, but Vox had hopped off her machine and hit the emergency stop button to lesson the damage.

Once the machine had fully stopped, Dee moved over to help Charlie.

"You ok? You came down with quite a bang?" Dee asked.

Charlie sat up, friction burns on her arms and legs where she hit the moving belt. Somehow she had avoided faceplanting on the machine. "I'm fine," Charlie responded. "I'm sure, I'm ok, I just need to..." Charlie tried to stand up, and realized she couldn't put any weight on her left ankle. "Ok, maybe a little help getting to Sickbay."

Charlie took a deep breath in. Nope, not embarrassing at all she thought to herself sarcastically.

"Sure, I can help you, put your weight on me and we will get you to Sickbay" Dee replied.

"Nope, not embarrassing at all," Charlie muttered as Dee helped her hobble to SIckbay.
