Episode 114 - A Time and Place for Everything
Location: Sickbay
Diana had overdone it...again. She had been training in the Holodeck...and fell down a cliff, ending up covered in cuts, bruises, and not quite able to walk properly. "Anybody home? [What kind of a stupid line is THAT Diana!?]" Diana chided herself as she limped into Sickbay.
The duty nurse saw the incoming patient and immediately informed the doctor on duty who happened to be T'para. " What happened?" T'para inquired as she offered Diana a shoulder to lean on as she helped her to the biobed.
"I, ouch, got a little too, eeeow, into what I was doing, didn't see a cliff, ow ow ow, and the rest is history," Diana winced as she tried...and failed, to get onto the biobed. As Diana's left foot came back down, there was a sharp 'SNAP!" ing sound, causing Diana to let out an earsplitting scream as her claws extended into the bio bed to keep her from falling to the ground or lashing out at someone in her blind pain. Blood spurted out around the bone sticking out of Diana's leg.
A few words that didn't translate came from T'para's lips as she lept into action. Grabbing one of the electronic tourniquets she clapped it around Diana's leg. With a hum, the bleeding stopped almost immediately as she and the nurse helped her onto the biobed. With a hypospray to dull the pain, the hybrid got to work.
"In answer to your unspoken question, yes, I did have the safeties on. However, I have absolutely no idea why/how or even if they malfunctioned," Diana hissed sharply as T'para worked, making more claw holds in the biobed.
" Well, that's something for engineering to look into. " T'para said as she worked her magic. The cuts were sealed off, gel applied to the bruises before she got to work on the leg. " Just need to make sure the painkillers are working. Can you feel this?" The doctor said as she tapped just above the woman's broken bone.
"HISS! Not so much! Uh, must be something in my mystery past causing trouble," Diana growled through elongated teeth at T'para's touch.
" We'll we're going to have to put you under while we fix up your leg." T'para said readying a hypospray.
Diana gulped and tried to back up, hissing again as she accidentally put pressure on her leg. "Do...do you have to? I I mean, if there isn't another way, I I guess I'll be ok. I just don't really like being under. It reminds me of when they forcefully put me under when I woke up on Starfleet's steps and accidentally started hurting people," Diana mumbled as her ears drooped in shame.
" We can set your leg while your awake, but it will hurt." she explained.
Diana took a deep breath. "I don't want to hurt anyone. It's time I stopped being a scaredy cat. Ok, I'll let you use the hypospray. Though, um, could you hold my hand please?" Diana didn't want to be scared, but it was a daily struggle for now.
T'para nodded as she offered her hand. " Just count back from three with me." She said family as she started counting.
Diana took a shaky breath. "Three...two...o..." blackness.
T'para nodded before checking Diana vitals before looking to the nurse. " Let's get to work."

Many hours later.
Diana's eyes slowly opened. "Uuuhhh...my head feels like it's been stuffed with cotton," Diana moaned, finally getting her hands up to her head to make sure it was still attached. Diana glanced down and saw her leg was in a brace. "Um, excuse me? Is someone there?" Diana called just above her normal volume. A nurse appeared and when asked, told Diana that the brace was going to have to stay on for a few days. "Um, is the doctor who worked on me around?" Diana asked.
T'para heard the noise and was soon there. " Hello there ensign how are you feeling? " She inquired.
"Hi Doc. Thank you for everything you've done. I wish I knew what was causing me to have an aversion to painkillers, not that I'm not grateful for you holding my hand so I wouldn't be sacred...I think I should be quiet now," Diana ducked her head, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly.
" Don't mention it." T'para replied with a warm smile on her face. " Now we've managed to repair your leg, but to heal the deep fractures you'll need the brace on for a few days. No strenuous work or exercise. "
"Aw man! I hate sitting around!" Diana huffed, crossing her arms and pouting a little. "Sigh, oh well, hey, maybe I can finally finish that book I was reading!" Diana perked up at that thought, though she STILL didn't like the idea of being stationary. "I hope my boss...er, superior, doesn't get mad at me," Diana's head drooped at disappointing Xalanth.
The hybrid gave a smile in reply. " No, he won't my dear. Belive me I know him very well."
Diana tilted her head at the Doc. "Really? How? I mean, this is a pretty big base after all," Diana scratched her neck sheepishly.
" Well...." T'para said sliding her uniform sleeve down to revile her bonding bracelet. It looked very similar to Xalanth showing the gem indicating him, one for T'para and two smaller ones for their two daughters. " I have had two daughters with him. "
Diana's jaw dropped, and if she had been standing, she would have collapsed into a chair from shock. "You...he...daughters...Whistle. Boy am I out of the loop!" Diana laughed, shaking her head at how wild life was.
" He's not mentioned us? That's very odd." T'para replied.
"It's not that, Doc! He said he had three wives and that one of them punched the heck out of him when they met, one almost attacked someone for being a Zarkonian slug, and the third one had kids...unless I got which one did what mixed up. I have trouble with my memory a lot," Diana growled in frustration, almost hitting her leg before she caught herself and hit the bed instead.
The doc chuckled at that. " We all have daughters via him my friend. Fulvia was the one who punched him upon their first meeting and I'm the one who punched the so called zarkonian slug. Creepy little creature. He was only in Starfleet due to his mother pulling favours."
"Oh wow! Giggle, hopefully I can keep that straight when I meet them. Scoff...people like that otta be thrown out the nearest airlock in a space suit and allowed to hang around until they're almost out of air!" Diana felt her face flush after her statement. "Ops...sorry, Doc. I just don't have any tolerance/use for puppets or their masters," Diana ducked her head in embarrassment.
" It's alright. " The hybrid replied " Now I need you to go back to your quarters and rest. if everything goes well you'll be walking again in a week."
Diana smiled as she carefully got off the biobed. "Yes Ma'am, and don't worry, Doc, I'll behave," Diana giggled as she headed out the door.
T'para smiled as she headed for the office. She had some paperwork to finish.
