608 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Episode 113 - No One Left Behind
Location: Promenade.
Timeline: Current

We find ourselves on the station's promenade. At one of the many tables, at the recently opened Bajoran Cafe, Deezell and her mother were enjoying coffee and a Bajoran cake called Tortaorn. Its kind of like a Lemon Drizzle cake except it uses a Bajoran fruit that has a similar lemon-like flavour. But, unlike lemon drizzle cake, Tortaorn has a slight spicy kick to it.

The two were chatting and reminiscing about past vacations they had as a family. As they shared funny stories, Deezell was totally unaware that a colleague of hers, Ariana was approaching their table.

Walking over to the table Ariana offered a polite smile. “Excuse me, I hope I’m not interrupting?”

"Oh, hey Ariana. No you are not interrupting, why don't you join us. " She said invitingly. Her mother nodded and smiled in agreement. Once Ariana had taken a seat, Deezell smiled and continued.

"Ariana, this is my mother, Lucina Timurs. Mom, this is Lieutenant Commander Ariana Monroe, Starbase 400's Chief Counsellor. "

Ariana offered a polite smile. “It’s nice to meet you Mrs Timurs.”

"Lovely to meet you too Lieutenant. Do you know my daughter well? " She asked.

“I wouldn’t say I know everything about her yet” Ariana grinned as she looked at Deezell, then back at her mother. “But we have been getting to know each other since she arrived here.”

"That is good. " She replied.

Deezell chipped in. "Although Ariana is getting to know more about me, I already know fair bit about her, she was a very good friend to Raekwon, my previous host." She commented.

Her mother tilted her head to one side. "I keep forgetting you are joined and so you saying things like that takes me by surprise." She commented.

"I bet it does. In the first few weeks of being joined, when I was still trying to deal with it all, some mornings I wasn't sure who I was and whether I was male or female till I got out of bed. " she said with a slight giggle.

“It’s an understandably tricky process, I’ve already offered Deezell any help she might need. Rae was a good friend, I’m sorry he’s gone but having Deezell here keeps his memory very much alive.”

"It's good to know that Dee has good friends already on the station. I am only staying for two weeks before I head off for another Archeological Conference. " Lucina replied. Dee listened as she sipped her coffee.

“Well I’m sure we can show you round, and put your mind to rest that Deezell will be okay here.” Ariana smiled warmly.

"I am glad to know that." Lucina replied. "Dee does need support as she gets used to being joined. " Lucina added.

“Don’t worry I’ll make sure Dee gets all the help she needs.” Ariana smiled at Deezell. “If for any reason I’m not available then Olivia O’Riley will be, She’s a fully trained Counsellor.”

"I know you will Ariana. I have my good days and my bad days" Dee replied, "Today is a very good day." Dee added.

“I’m glad to hear that” Ariana smiled warmly. “As I said before I can’t imagine what it must be like to be joined, but I’m always here to help.”

The three continued to chat until Dee's mother retired to her quarters as it was getting late. Ariana left to finish off some work which left Dee on her own. She soon found herself at the nearest bar with a glass of Trivale, a honey based wine made on the Trill homeworld.
