Mission: Episode 110 - An Endeavor in Discovery
Location: SS Caparo
Timeline: MD1 0755 hours

Quite some time ago, the day after becoming a father in fact, Jackson Blake had learned that when you had children you had to accept a few basic things. While many parents lamented the lack of sleep, or the fact that even the shortest of trips required an insane amount of stuff what Jackson actually missed was more moments like this one.

On route to Starbase 400, they were now just a couple of hours away from their destination. Yet for now there was a perfect and peaceful silence in the luxurious quarters he was sharing with his wife. While he had been awake for some time now, he made no move to leave bed and risk disturbing his slumbering spouse.

Even in the dim light cast by a small night light (a concession to her fear of the dark) he could still see that tell tale glow in her that people often spoke of as he kissed her forehead. His arms cradled her against him, enjoying the moment to feel like it was just the two of them in the whole universe. Not that he did not love his children, of course he did! Yet he also loved her wife. And in between his work and being super dad (admittedly that was the nickname he gave himself and was waiting on it catching on) he often worried he did not do enough for her.

It was perhaps ridiculous to think so, but he saw how her smile lit up the room when he brought home flowers every Thursday or had them delivered. Or her blushes when he would compliment her. Or her laugh when he would mercilessly tickle. Although the last part was not an option. To try and tickle her when she was pregnant was a dangerous affair.

He brushed a stray lock of hair from her face, remembering doing the exact same thing on their first date. It had been like a jolt of electricity shooting through him that night and from then on it been a whirlwind of love, laughter and babies as they moved from place to place.

And he wouldn't change one thing.

Even this ship.

When he had first met his now wife, he knew next to nothing about her. Yet soon he learned she came from a family which traced back centuries and with some connection to royalty which Abigayle rolled her eyes at whenever her mother recounted their ancestry. Ultimately, they had wealth and had many business interests throughout the quadrant from pharmaceuticals to freight, art galleries to concert venues, theatres to news outlets.

Everything was grand, done to extremes. Except for Abi. She did not care for it, beyond work she often did for some of the charitable trusts her family oversaw. While for most of her relatives that would mean a stuffy boardroom, she went out on the front line, helping with other volunteers. Making sure they actually had what they needed.

But her love was music. And it was her music, her and a few friends on a stage in a bar, that had completely bewitched him. He had been out to celebrate with his own friends but he had stayed long after they had gone, just watching and listening. Amazed at her voice, the music, yet also this inherent shyness that peeked out through little glances and smiles she shared with her friends.

He didn't even remember walking up to her at the bar that night, but he had and his usual easy going self had walked right on by. In his place he had been like a teenager, barely able to piece two words together. In the end she bought him a drink, and by round number four they were talking and laughing like they had known each other forever.

And from then on, he hadn't ever looked back. And when they got married and Abigayle's mother resigned herself to her daughter living wherever Jackson had to be, she had given them this ship to be at their disposal. It was lavish, and altogether too much. But it did beat a cramped transport ship he had to admit.

Beside him Abigayle stirred, yawning as she peered up at him, "you staring again?" she murmured sleepily.

"Always. Go back to sleep so I can stare some more and then I will make you the most amazing breakfast..."
